Will Salem turn into Genoa City?

Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, Y&R) and husband, Ed ScottIn a soapdom behind the scenes shocker, Corday Productions, Inc., producer of Days of our Lives, announced late today that Edward Scott has joined Days as Co-Executive Producer, along with Marnie Saitta as the show’s new Casting Director.

“I am very enthusiastic about the important changes for Days of our Lives that Edward Scott will bring as Co-Executive Producer,” commented Ken Corday, Executive Producer, Corday Productions, Inc. “Ed comes with more than twenty years experience with ‘The Young and the Restless’ and brings a new, vibrant, creative energy and strength to this all-important position of leadership.”

Make no mistake about it. From music supervision to lighting to approving or denying an actor's request to change a line to running the control booth, Scott is totally hands on.  I oughta know. I once spent an entire week in the booth with Ed Scott on Young and the Restless, and even got to read lines with Eric Braeden (Victor) as a result!

“Days will benefit greatly from Ed’s direction," continued Corday. "The viewers will also be thrilled with the exciting changes in the days to come. I would like to thank former Co-Executive Producer Steve Wyman, Supervising Producer Roy Steinberg and Casting Director Fran Bascom for their service and friendship over the years. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”  Bascom, who has become a mentor to many an aspiring soap actor, has been with Days since at least 1994.

Both Edward Scott and Marnie Saitta come to Corday Productions having most recently served on the long-running CBS daytime drama “The Young and the Restless.” Scott had an extensive tenure on the show, most recently as Supervising Producer. He is credited for fifteen Daytime Emmy Award nominations for “Outstanding Drama Series,” among them five wins.  He was the Executive Producer from 1971 to 2001 when he took some time off.  He returned to Y&R as supervising producer in 2004.  He is married to Y&R's main squeeze, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) and they have three daughters.

Not only is the show excited about Scott and Saitta's arrival, the network is likewise looking forward to the duo coming on board.

“We are thrilled to have Ed and Marnie join the Days of our Lives team,” said Annamarie Kostura, Vice President, NBC Daytime. “Their vast experience in the world of daytime dramas will bring an exciting and welcomed addition to the show.”

“As a long-time fan of Days of our Lives, I am excited to join the production team,” said Scott. I look forward to the challenges ahead in delivering even more exciting programming to Days’ many fans. I’m fully committed to bringing renewed success to  this American Icon.”

Days of our Lives celebrates its 42nd anniversary this November. The show first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour ten years later. DAYS continues to lead the competition among younger female viewers.

Soapdom congratulates Scott and Saitta on joining the production team of Days of our Lives and we look forward to seeing their imprint on the show.
