Things have gone sex crazy in Oakdale this week. Shake-ups that the entire town will feel for weeks, possibly months to come. I’m curious as to the reasoning of writers, why they felt the need to make every major storyline about inappropriate sex or the idea of such? I can only assume with the direction the storylines are headed, someone gave a writer a copy of the Illinois sex crimes statute.
Oh, dear where do I start? Casey and Emily, though trying to fight their passions for each other, find they are stuck taking Daniel to NY for a concert. While Danny boy is at the concert, mom and bro are having crazy sex in the hotel room. As if that wasn’t bad enough when Daniel returned to the room, he excitedly wants to watch a movie with his cool older brother, that he adores, and his mom that he loves. Mom and Brother can’t stop giving each other goggly eyes long enough to watch the movie. Casey, I understand having pent up sexual frustrations, he just got out of prison, but Emily…. she just spent a year banging any and all businessmen that happened through the bars of Oakdale, so I don’t understand how she could let her sex drive get the best of her in the hallway of a hotel with her young son just a door away. Shameful!
Em’s younger sister is not doing too much better in the love department, though I feel sorry for Allison. Chris really has put her through the ringer this week for no reason, other than she wouldn’t sleep with him. Chris has been nothing but a juvenile delinquent with a license to practice medicine since returning to Oakdale on the arm of a former Lady of the Night, Emily Stewart.
Allison hung her head, confessed her sins and hoped for the best acting on her best behavior every since she cleaned up. Ali deserved a second chance at life and love; but Chris foolishly gave her up for sex one time and has proven he will do it again. I thought his time with, Sophie then, Allison he had turned into a “new” Chris, but looks like ATWT is determined to keep Chris the resident bad-boy-screw-up.
Speaking of resident bad-boys ….like Paul or not, you have to admit he has gotten a rotten deal with rabbit-cooker Sophie dragging out month old panties as DNA evidence that he raped her. I think I would have checked myself into the Wagon Wheel and used the extra cabbage to get down to the Oakdale Laundromat to wash my drawers before I would have let them lie around covered in multiple DNA’s for literally a month or more had I been Sophie.
Beyond her little almost nude breakdown last week I am already done with this storyline. That was the climax before the story really got underway. Now, I guess viewers must endure a Summer of Meg defending her man, and Paul turning his nose up like he has never committed a crime in disgust and appalled that Margo thinks he actually raped someone. Oh and then we get the unfortunate pleasure of watching Margo take her wanna-be macho revenge on Paul for her rape some 15 years ago. Shouldn’t she have worked through this as a cop already? I know this isn’t the first rape she has seen since her own. Why take it out on Paul now? I’m done, and I wish As The World Turns was done with this story as well.
The good thing thus far about Sophie’s false rape charges is we are going to get to see Babs in her true form. Friday, Barbara telling Mike and Sophie what for, as a promise not a threat was great! I love Barbara and want more of the real Barbara.
Carly and Holden are getting closer, but Holden {of course} is fighting his feelings. Right now I don’t care two figs who Holden ends up with, all I care about is how much I really hate this new Lily. Martha Byrne is Lily and that is that. You can recast small insignificant characters, but not the vets. If Martha cannot, or will not, come back; it is time to let the character go. The “ new Lily” is really taking away from, and annoying, what could be a pretty cool storyline of Holden and Carly’s hook-up.
I am sick, however ,of Holden and Carly holding on to the one moment they had when he lifted her off the horse. Okay, we get it! A moment was shared. We don’t have to see it multiple times every day.
My biggest beef this week with Carly and Lily is …they can’t get a grill started! They had to call Holden and Jack, yet both are supposed to be former businesswomen? Please!? I just lost all respect for both characters. Had I been an actress given those ridiculous lines I would have refused to play that dim-witted a role.
I’ve commented many times before in blogs, articles, message boards, etc. that I like ATWT’s child characters. But isn’t it time Sage stop drawing in crayon pictures {a first grader would produce} to grab the heart strings of her parents? If Sage persists with this form of toddler-like communication she needs to be declared mentally handi-capped. Sage is suppose to be friends with Faith and Natalie who go to pre-teen dances and school events, yet Sage is at home drawing barely legiable pictures in crayons of her “mommy and daddy” or “ideal family”.
Returning to the subject of Allison, what about more, recent confidant, Aaron? What a disappointing and even annoying return for a character. When Aaron came to ATWT years ago he really had substance and I loved the character. I was so sad to see him go, yet so excited to see his return of recent, but what a disappointment. Aaron has done nothing but mope around Oakdale interjecting himself, unwelcomed, into everyone’s issues. If that is the best Aaron can do with himself he needs to high tail it back to Seattle. It is so irritating to see him pop up everywhere arguing someone’s case that has nothing to do with him. I understand doing the right thing for a friend, but these people, girls, he is standing up for are they really friends? So when was the last time he and Sophie spoke? Especially in her true, supposed, hour of need? And Mike Kasnoff? he is just a grown up version of Aaron. Two good, hot characters that have been ruined -- now that they are relagated to being cry-babies -- that will probably never regain my respect, thus me wanting to see an exit for both.
