Catherine Hickland (Lindsay, One Life to Live)Taking a coffee break with Catherine Hickland

The beautiful Catherine Hickland made an appearance in Michigan on Friday November 20th. Hickland did a meet and greet at a McDonald's restaurant near the 12 Oaks Mall in Novi. The purpose of the event was to launch the restaurant's new Frappe coffee drinks. After the event, Hickland took part in a private two-hour "papering session" for some lucky local mothers. The event included massages, make-up tips, and makeovers.

The meet and greet event wasn't overly crowded, but those who attended were clearly

dedicated fans. We all drank our share of Frappes, which are quite delicious. Frappes are a frozen coffee drink and they come in mocha and caramel flavors. Hickland has a unique way of interacting with people. She welcomed everyone with such warmth - as if greeting an old and cherished friend. She's incredibly friendly and sincere, not to mention gorgeous. Hickland was kind enough to grant Soapdom an exclusive interview. We were curious about a number of things, including her recent move to Nevada. Here's what she had to say:

Catherine Hickland with Soapdom's Laurie FleschSOAPDOM: How did you get involved in the McDonald's coffee campaign?

CATHERINE HICKLAND: McDonald's Corporation contacted me and asked me if I would do a special promotion for them for their Frappes. I'm a big McDonald's fan and I'm a coffee fanatic and I love that they're doing this because it's so much less expensive than the competitors. I never, ever will get involved with something that I don't believe in 100%. So I said absolutely. What I love about McDonald's is they wanted to do something for their local customers. They brought me in for a meet and greet and for a special event this afternoon with about 40 of their customers where I'll be doing makeovers. They'll get makeup and swag. McDonald's is a franchise but they take care of their customers and they're very heavily involved in their community. I'm thrilled. They're great people.

SOAPDOM: You recently moved to Las Vegas? Can you talk a little bit about that?

HICKLAND: I'm permanently there and I love it. I bought the house of my dreams and I love being there. It's my home base. I travel so much doing stage hypnosis and corporate events. I'll have a home there for my show, I would say in the coming year. Right now it's just so much easier for me to fly in and out of Las Vegas than New York City. I'm kind of tired of the winters and I've always loved Las Vegas. I live in the foothills of the mountains. I'm only 12 minutes away from the strip.

SOAPDOM: Do you miss New York?

HICKLAND: No, not at all. But that's probably because I go there a lot. I'll be there in a few weeks. I'm helping Michael (Knight, Tad, All My Children) make his move to Los Angeles.

SOAPDOM: We love Michael at Soapdom and we're so glad he's going to Los Angeles with All My Children. The two of you are such a great example of being friends after a break up.

HICKLAND: We adore each other. We truly adore each other and he's coming to stay with me for a few weeks before we go to Los Angeles. So he's excited about seeing the house.

Soapdom's Laurie Flesch interviews Hickland at Mickey D's in Novi, MichiganSOAPDOM: Many years ago, Michael was my first soap opera crush.

HICKLAND: I hear that from a lot of people - men and women. And that's on the record (laughs).

SOAPDOM: Talk a little about your animals. You have dogs?

HICKLAND: I just rescued a Pit Bull and a Queens land Blue Heeler. They were about to be put down. I was just going to foster them but they're staying. I fell in love with them. I also have two other dogs.

SOAPDOM: What do you consider to be the basic essentials for a casual daytime look?

HICKLAND: Honestly I think you can wear a pair of jeans and a t-shirt if you're put together with your hair and makeup. The makeup is bronzer, lip-gloss, and smoky eyes. Putting your eye makeup on before you do anything is key. I have videos on my website to show you how to do it.

SOAPDOM: As far as One Life to Live - is there any word of Lindsey returning? Do you have any thoughts on Roscoe Born's return?

HICKLAND: No word on Lindsey. I just found out about Roscoe yesterday. I saw it at the store on a magazine. I love Roscoe Born. I think he's incredible. He's a good friend. We did The City together. Is he (Mitch) Rex's father?

SOAODOM: Yes, he is.

HICKLAND: They revealed that - oh that's fantastic!

SOAPDOM: Do you enjoy writing?

HICKLAND: Yes. I'm very disciplined about it. I'm very proud of my first book (The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure). I took my time writing it. It was in my head for about 15 years but it took about a year to write.

SOAPDOM: Do you have any special plans for the holidays?

Catherine Hickland with Claude and Teresa Murphy, owners of the Novi McDonald'sHICKLAND: I am going to be in my home in Las Vegas surrounded by family and friends.

SOAPDOM: Are you cooking? What do you like to cook?

HICKLAND: Of course. I'll be cooking for Thanksgiving and Christmas and on New Years I'll go out. I make traditional turkey. I learned how to cook in Italy when I lived there so I make pasta dishes. I didn't know how to boil water when I moved there but I came back a full-fledged cook.

Knowing she has some self-help hypnosis CD's available on her website, I asked Hickland if she has one for pain management. "I don't, but people have asked me about that. I'm going to go home and record one," she said. Then she looked at me with concern and asked, "do you have headaches?" I quietly told Hickland I have a neurological disorder that causes me chronic neck pain. "It's not that we cure things but when we expect to be in pain, we are. It's just a shift in consciousness," Hickland said.

After our interview was over, Hickland gently reached under my hair and felt the back of my neck. "I can feel the spasms," she said. Hickland mentioned the importance of spirituality when dealing with challenges, including chronic pain. With one hand on my arm, she pointed to her head and said, "it's all up here." Four simple, yet strong words to live by. Those words made me feel like anything is possible. As she hugged me, Hickland promised to get a pain management CD on her website soon.

Days of our Lives True O'Brien loves playing Paige and talks about working with Justin Bieber

As a daytime newcomer, True O'Brien is making her mark as Paige Larson on Days of our Lives. Not only radiantly beautiful, but the character has a quality about her that is immediately relatable to a lot of young people.

"Yes! And what's funny is I can relate to her, too," O'Brien said. "Paige is a lot of fun to play. I can relate to her desire and her wanting to be a serious student, and in the storyline her first love with JJ (Casey Moss). She is someone I'd like to let into my life."
