Blast from the past:  Acting in Iceland

Since the dubious distinction of being the first character killed off by the now infamous Salem Stalker on Days of our Lives last fall, actor James Reynolds (ex Abe, DOOL) is about to take his acting prowess on the road all the way to Iceland to instruct the craft.

Reynolds will visit middle and high school students in Iceland as part of the USO's Celebrity Education touring program.  The students are children of parents who are serving in the armed forces there.  Reynolds, a seasoned thespian with screen and stage credits, will stop at Department of Defense Education Activity schools March 8-12.  He will discuss his experience in the entertainment industry, hold question-and-answer sessions, sign autographs and host after-school drama workshops.

Last spring, Reynolds visited students in Kaiserslautern, Germany to
spread his "stay in school" message and encourage the study of fine arts.  The
Celebrity Education touring program, which debuted in 2003, is a new tour
opportunity for celebrities to showcase their talents and demonstrate their
appreciation for service members and their families.  In 2003, the Second City
Comedy Troupe and Walter Lewis, the associate producer for "The Tonight Show
with Jay Leno," also participated on Celebrity Education tours.

A longtime USO supporter, Reynolds also visited service men and women in
Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Germany, Kuwait, Spain and Italy, bringing
them a familiar face, a welcome smile and a kind word of support. For the past
three years, Reynolds has spent Christmas with the troops, who are far from home and engaged in an increasingly dangerous mission.

For more than 20 years, he portrayed Abe Carver on NBC's Emmy Award-
winning soap opera "Days of Our Lives."   Although best known for his "Days"
role, he also starred in "Buffalo Soldier," a play that depicts black U.S.
Army troops in the American West following the Civil War, for which he was
nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award.  The former Marine and Vietnam veteran
also is active in several charitable causes, including the PTA, Haven House (a
home for battered women and children), The National Asthma Center, the Boy
Scouts of America and the YMCA.

For 63 years, the USO (United Service Organizations) has brought a touch
of home to America's military personnel.  The USO is a congressionally
chartered, nonprofit organization and is not a government agency.  The USO is
supported by World Partners Amazon.com, Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, BAE SYSTEMS, Clear Channel Worldwide, Coca-Cola, ESPN, Lockheed Martin, Lowe's, Morgan Stanley, Northwest Airlines, Ray-Ban, Sara Lee, S & K Sales Company, Ty Inc., USAA Foundation and The Walt Disney Company.  Other corporate donors, including Walgreens and the United Way and Combined Federal Campaign (CFC- 0600), have joined thousands of individual donors to support the USO.  For more information on the USO, please visit our Web site at http://www.uso.org.
