Dear Suds Buds,

When I asked you to tell us your most memorable soap moments of all time, I didn’t know what to expect.  Fans of different soaps would probably note show specific moments, and that’s pretty much what happened.  Except for one very defining moment in soapdom that topped the list.  I’ll share that one with you shortly.

Many of the most memorable moments depict the same situations we face in real life -- love and romance, marriage, illness, death.  Interestingly, no one selected any moments from the Bold and the Beautiful as being most memorable.  Let’s see what stood out for you on your favorite shows…

All My Children fans singled out Tad and Dixie’s third wedding; Bianca and Babe having their babies;  Bianca finding out her baby was alive; Bianca’s anorexia; and, the kiss between Bianca and Lena.

As the World Turns fans selected the moment that Tom confronted Margo about Doc; Jack and Carly’s wedding in Montana, Damian Grimaldi revealing that he was married to Lily; Lucy and Dusty’s love story; and, the first time Holden and Lily made love.

What stood out most for Days of our Lives fans was the Serial Stalker storyline’s twist – that all who were killed were really alive and well and living on Captive Island;  John and Marlena’s reunion at the Pier in 1991; the baby switch and Bo’s the Daddy cyber voting; Marlena being possessed by the devil; Rex and Cassie, the alien twins; and, Marlena being revealed as the Salem Stalker.

General Hospital fans picked Luke and Laura’s wedding;  BJ and Maxie’s heart transplant and BJ’s ultimate death;  Sonny getting shot on Christmas Eve of 2001 and telling Carly he loves her; Nikolas and Emily’s wedding; Stone’s illness and death, Sonny finding out that Kristina was his daughter; Zander and Emily make love on Halloween and Cameron is conceived; Zander learns of his wife’s adultery; and Lucky’s “death.”

Guiding Light, the longest running soap, had the highest number of most memorable moments of all time, starting with Phillip’s death.  Following right behind that storyline shocker is Joie Lenz as Michelle and Paul Anthony Stewart as Danny and the “I am a man” speech; Tony and Marah make love for the first time; Danny shooting Carmen; Jeffrey arrives in Springfield resembling Richard; Alexandra exposes Roger at the country club; Harley sees the tape in the wine cellar; Harley and Mallet’s wedding; Reva and Josh’s wedding at Cross Creek; Gus and Harley’s romance and non-wedding;  Gus surprises Harley with “Greece” in the hotel room; Harley’s near death experience after being shot; Cassie and Edmund deciding to have a child; and, the Prince Richard and Cassie’s love story and wedding.

One Life to Live fans choose Todd proposing to Tea for real in public at the Palace Bar;  Cristian’s return; and, Todd stripping and skinny dipping with Tea somewhere in the South Pacific.

Passions fans noted one most memorable moment of all time -- when Theresa came back from the dead after being executed.

A number of fans noted the cancellation of Port Charles as a defining moment in soaps.  One said she cried when the show was cancelled. Another fan said that whenever a soap is cancelled, or her favorite actor leaves, she is devastated.

Young and the Restless fans noted the scenes involving Billy and Mac at the prom, and Nikki and Victor’s re-marriage in September 2002.

Finally, one fan noted a prime time soap moment as being her most memorable, and it wasn’t “who shot JR.”  It was Fallon taking off in a spaceship on The Colbys.

Thanks everyone for sharing your most memorable soap moments of all time. But wait!  I am forgetting to share the number one most memorable soap moment.  Hands down, the one that stood out as the most defining moment in soaps of all time was AMC's Susan Lucci (Erica) winning a Daytime Emmy Award as Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series on her 19th try!
