Facts and Rumors

General Hospital has officially confirmed that Sarah Brown (Carly) will be leaving the show. Brown joined GH in April, 1996 and in the five years that she has been with the show she has won three Daytime Emmy Awards for her portrayal of the complex character of Carly. Her last airdate is April 24, 2001.

Although the talents of Sarah Brown will be missed, the role of Carly will not skip a beat as it has already been recast. Assuming the role of Carly is Tamara Braun. Braun is known to television audiences for her guest starring roles on such shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Party of Five, 7th Heaven and Soul Food. Bruan's first airdate on General Hospital is May 2, 2001.

Days of Our Lives Wins Prism Award!

Days of Our Lives won their first Prism Award in the category of Continuing Storyline in a Television Daytime Drama when the awards were handed out during the 5th Annual Prism Awards Ceremony on Wednesday evening, April 4, 2001, at CBS Television City in Hollywood.

The Prism Awards, voted on by the Entertainment Industries Council, recognize the responsible depiction of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use and addiction in television programming and motion pictures. DOOL was nominated for the storyline in which Hope's baby, J.T., was diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. This is not the first time DOOL has been recognized by the Entertainment Industries Council; the show earned a 1999 Certificate of Merit and a Commendation for the year 2000.

DOOL cast members Peter Reckell (Bo) and Kristian Alfonso (Hope) were on hand to accept the award on behalf of the producers, writers, and actors who collaborated on the fetal alcohol syndrome storyline. During his acceptance speech, Reckell brought attention to the awesome responsibility daytime television has to inform the audience, as well as to entertain. Reckell stated how proud he was to be involved in such a powerful storyline that could potentially help save lives. Adding to that sentiment, Alfonso respectfully acknowledged head writer Tom Langan for creating such an emotional story with an important social message.

The Prism Award nominees were selected from a total of 248 submissions. The awards are voted on by the Entertainment Industries Council and presented in partnership with The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse/National Institutes of Health.

The Entertainment Industries Council is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 by the entertainment industry to lead the industry in bringing its power and influence to bear on health and social issues. NIDA, an institute of National Institutes of Health, supports 85 percent of the world's research on the health aspects of drug abuse and addiction. The Institutes sponsor a large variety of programs to ensure the rapid dissemination of research information and its implementation on policy and practice. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is the nation's largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health and heath care.

Congratulations to DOOL for winning this prestigious award.

Letters to the Editor

"I just wanted to know how I could send mail to Lindsay (Korman, Theresa from Passions). I tried to from this site, but the option to do it wasn't available! I hope you can inform me about how to send her mail. Thanx!" purplehrt

On our "links" page you'll find a direct link to Lindsay Korman's official website. There is a link to email her from her own website. Or, you can scroll to the bottom of this page for the address of Passions studios and production office. You can always snail mail her there! When you write to Lindsay, tell her Turtle Run says hello! :o)

"I was wondering if you could tell me how to purchase tickets for the 2001 Daytime Emmys. Do you know when and where they go on sale? Thank you for your assistance." Keighront

For Daytime Emmy ticket information, call the Radio City Music Hall Events hotline at 212 247-4777.

"I will not be watching All My Children anymore because I, for one, will not accept Anthony Addabbo as Dimitri. I saw this man's work on Guiding Light and was not impressed. It is better to have Dimitri written off the show, temporarily, rather than allow any actor to replace Michael Nader. For me, there is only one Dimitri and Michael Nader is that man." annemt05

The entire situation regarding Michael Nader's legal and substance abuse problems is more than unfortunate. The good news is that he is working on his recovery and that is commendable. His continued recovery is in our prayers. The better news is that the network is open to talking with him again, once his recovery is complete, if it makes sense for the show at that time. However, he is the only one responsible for his past actions, and he has taken full responsibility for them. Again, something to commend. Unfortunately, those very same actions have placed the show in a rather sticky position. The current storyline surrounding Dimitri is in frontburner mode. The network and the show had to act quickly to maintain the continuity of the character in this heavy story. Although Michael Nader's work as Dimitri is flawless, shouldn't we reserve judgement on Anthony Addabbo's work until he has filled the role for several weeks, feels comfortable wearing Dimitri's shoes, and has proven himself as the character? That is what I am going to do. I hope you all will likewise give Addabbo and the show the benefit of the doubt, while we pray for Nader's rapid and complete recovery and eventual return to the show. :o) In the meantime, TRO continues to be flooded with email in support of Michael Nader and his continued recovery. We wish him the very best.

"There are several good actors and actresses in all of the soaps. It's so strange, we always remember the names of the movie actors/actresses but we have a hard time remembering the names of the people that play in the soaps. At least I do. I have been watching the three soaps for many years, yet I know few names. When you ask for favorite actor/actress, most of my movie favorites are no longer here. I have none of the today movie people (as favorites) because I don't enjoy the new movies and don't go to see them. As for the soaps, yes, I have favorites in all three. As long as the soaps keep away from the bad language, and the sex to a minimum, I will watch them. If they start using the "gutter" language, and show offensive sex, they will lose a fan. Please understand, I am not a prude, but for me there is a time and place for everything and the movies and TV is not the place for what I mentioned. Thank you again for the most enjoyable site." Ladyborden

Thank you for your candid comments. The soaps are great fun. And the characters, who come into our homes five days a week, can become almost like our own personal acquaintances, as we get to know them and their trials and tribulations so well. It is easy to have trouble separating the character from the actor. Even I, who know all the actors personally, will sometime forget that I am talking to the actor and instead will call them by their character's name! Talk about embarrassing. LOL The soaps do a tasteful job in showing us the romance, IMHO, giving us just enough to get the drift without being distasteful.

"When are the soap opera digest awards going to be on?! They are usually on in late Feb or early March and we have not heard a thing! I certainly hope they decided not to have them, that would be a great disappointment. Thank you for your time reading this message, and thanks again for doing a great job at Turtle Run!" bcphalen

As far as I know, the Soap Opera Digest Awards will definitely take place this year. However, the exact timing has not yet been announced. I recommend staying tuned to the publication itself for further info regarding the SOD Awards.

What's Up with The Sopranos?

Airing this week is episode #33, titled "Second Opinion," where newly made man Christopher sees his probation period under Paulie stretch out. In the meantime, Tony convinces Uncle Junior to get a second opinion on his cancer treatment. Later, Anthony Jr.'s school trip leaves Carmela and Tony with time alone together. What will they do to make the best of it? That's open to speculation, as Carmela actually considers seeing a therapist of her own.

Premiering Sunday, April 15, 2001 is episode #34, titled "He is Risen" where Tony's feud with Ralph reaches the fail-safe point. In the meantime, Meadow and Jackie, Jr. find that they have more in common than they thought. Back to Tony, whose generosity in giving his time slot with Dr. Melfi to another patient pays off big time.

Premiering on SoapCenter, Monday, April 9, 2001

As the World Turns 45th Anniversary (Part 1) Coinciding with the soap's stunning 25 Daytime Emmy nominations, SoapCenter prepares a salute to the venerable CBS serial including an exclusive interview with legendary actress Helen Wagner (Nancy). Plus, interviews with Helen's castmates, vintage ATWT clips and a wealth of archival photos. According to former Soap Opera Weekly Editor-in-Chief Mimi Torchin, "As the World Turns has always had the kinds of characters that people could relate to, that people wanted to get to know."

Emmy Spotlight #2 This week SoapCenter introduces you to the nominees for Outstanding Younger Actor: David Tom, David Lago (Billy and Raul, Y&R), Josh Ryan Evans (Timmy, Passions) Paul Taylor (Isaac, ATWT) and Jesse McCartney (JR, AMC).

Behind the Scenes: DOOL is on Fire! SoapCenter takes you behind the scenes as DOOL concocts a killer conflagration that will change the lives of Roman and Lucas forever. Ever wonder how soaps make those fires so realistic? Then, this segment is for you! "I was climbing out of the window and they turned the flames on and I guess it went up a little farther than they thought it would," said Jay Kenneth Johnson (Philip). "It went up the back of my shirt! But, y'know? It kind of made it real."

Travis Schuldt and the Lone Star Ensemble There is more to Travis Schuldt than being Ethan on Passions. SoapCenter catches up with the handsome actor as he and his funky theater company prepare to mount a very modern interpretation of Venus and Adonis, a soaring Shakespearean poem. "Shakespeare is boring to a lot of people," reflects Schuldt, "because they don't get it. If we could do (his plays) like The Matrix, then people would watch them."

Stars Help Make-A-Wish SoapCenter is on the scene as your favorite actors from OLTL and GL team up at a star-studded charity event in suburban New Jersey to raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation. "It is just overwhelming to think that if a child doesn't have much time left that a group of people can give them something to make them a little happier in the last couple of months of their lives," says Beth Ehlers (Harley, GL).

Catherine Hickland's CatCosmetics Finally! What women everywhere have been waiting for. It's OLTL star Catherine Hickland's (Lindsay) "fabu" new cosmetics line, designed to take every women from morning to evening, with makeup for everything in between. SoapCenter talks to the talented actress/entrepreneur about her bold (and highly successful) new endeavor. "My goal is to make people see that it only takes a minute to fix yourself up a little bit, and THAT makes YOU feel better,"Catherine says.

**TRO Disclaimer: The above SoapCenter segments are scheduled in advance and may be bumped without notice for airing at a later date. The above segments may then be replaced with other segments. Check your local listings.**
