Dear Suds Buds!

Here we are!  Settling in, getting comfy, cozy and familiar with all the new bells and whistles of Soapdom.com.  Have you tried the chat room? It’s way cool.  We want to hear if you are having trouble accessing it.  I will be popping in and out of the chat room all week.  I hope to catch you in chat one of those times!  For the most part, we got through the first week without a blink!  There were some glitches with the message boards the first day, and we are still tweaking the site here and there, but basically the transition was pretty seamless. Member Support is here to help you with any questions you may have about the new site. Feel free to email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  The colors are new, and the boards may work a little differently, but we feel certain that Soapdom.com will soon become a fun and comfortable place for you to hang on the net and talk soaps.  If some of your cyber buddies haven't shown up on the boards, yet, please send them an email and let them know where we are.  We did send out newsletter email last week, but from what we hear, some may have ditched the email as spam.  So spread the word. We don't want any lost turtles :o)

Oh yeah.  Soapdom is best viewed at high resolution on Internet Explorer 6 or higher and Netscape 6 or higher. Our left-hand navigation is flash, so your browser must be flash enabled to use it.  If you don’t have flash, we will provide easy links for downloading it this week.

We have a few surprises in the planning stages for the month of December.  More on that next week.  Stay tuned.  And don't forget to nominate your favorites in the Soapdom Cybby Awards!  One week left. Nominations are due by November 30, 2002.

Which reminds me, what do you guys think about characters returning after several years, especially when they are played by the same actor?  Do you expect that the character will pick up right where they left off with the other characters in their lives, or do you figure that there will be a transition period?

Case in point.  Maria’s return on All My Children.  I have got to applaud Eva LaRue Callahan’s performance. She is a totally different character as “Maureen,” the amnesiac who is just now, after a month or two back on the show, remembering her past.  “Maureen” has a totally different persona than the Maria that was thought lost in the plane crash.  It’s not that “Maureen” is Maria’s evil twin, either. Oh no. She is Maria with amnesia.  And LaRue Callahan is playing 2-characters-in-one with aplomb.  It’s good to have her back in daytime.

Question is, do you like the way the story is going since her return, or would you have rather seen Maria jump head first into Edmund’s arms as soon as she saw his face?  Stay tuned to Soapdom.com this week when we introduce our new featured column:  “Busted to Blissful,” by Lesleyann Medieros, former reporter for Soap Opera Weekly, and now a Soapdom.com contributor.  She looks at the return of Maria from a very critical eye.  We want to know if you agree with her assessment.

Other features to watch for this week at Soapdom include a story on the GH fan lunch this past July as we rocked out with Wally Kurth and Kurth & Taylor.  Speaking of music and soaps, be sure to check out our exclusive coverage of DOOL’s Bo and Hope’s theme song, and it’s songstress, Peter Reckell’s real life wife, Kelly Moneymaker.

Saturdays and Sundays at Soapdom are tons of fun with a new Dear Dr. Soaps, and the Sizzle Pic, just so you don’t forget your soaps over the weekend.  And as always, there’s message boards and chat on weekends too!

Til the top of next week!

Linda Marshall-Smith
