The end of an era on NBC and what's coming to Turtle-Run.com

Every week I'll be writing a column to share some of my thoughts on what's going on in soapdom. For example:

  • It's a sad day indeed when an icon gets canceled. Another World is going off the air after 35 years. As NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani commented to the press and the NY-area Daytime Emmy Nominees at a ceremony honoring them at NYC City Hall on May 4, 1999, "One of the fixtures of Daytime Television in NYC is leaving the airwaves, and I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the cast and crew of Another World, " said the Mayor. "Another World is NBC's longest running daytime drama. It was the first to extend to an hour, and it was the first to give rise to the spin off. It will be ending this year. We want to express our tremendous appreciation for everything that they have done for the television industry of New York City." To the wonderful cast and crew of Another World, all the best as you pursue future endeavors.

  • Vanessa's (Marj Dusay) malignant motives on AMC have me completely stumped, which is a good thing, because I keep tuning in to see what she'll be up to next!

  • Eileen Davidson has added a sizzling spark to Ashley on Y&R, although the home-office-over-the-garage-scenario that is causing so much conflict between Diane, Jack, Ashley and Cole is rather lame, IMHO. I'd much rather see these talented actors battling in a more intriguing venue.

  • The new ABC/Disney venture of an all-day, all-the-time soap channel is exciting and adds enormous credibility to the soap industry in general.
In addition, we have added a new message board at Turtle Run titled: "Criticize the Critic," for you to comment on the items I discuss in the Top of the Week column. Hope to see you posting there.

The Top of the Week column will also provide previews on upcoming events, features, and interviews at Turtle Run.

Coming soon is a candid conversation with Shawn Christian (ex-Mike Kasnoff, As The World Turns) about his life after soaps, complete with exclusive photos of the talented star, and look for the real inside story of how a dedicated group of Cady McClain (Dixie, AMC) fans mounted an international campaign that wooed the actress back to Pine Valley. We have tons of exclusive interviews with stars from all the soaps, like Shemar Moore (Malcolm, Y&R), Kevin Spirtas (Craig, DOOL), Mick Cain (CJ, B&B), Catherine Hickland (Lindsay, OLTL), Jess Walton (Jill, Y&R), Elizabeth Hubbard (Lucinda, ATWT), Robert S. Woods (Bo, OLTL) and that's just the beginning!

As you know, the Daytime Emmy Awards are fast approaching. Check back to TRO often for our Daytime Emmy coverage! Our first story, an insiders look at the New York City Mayor's Office honoring the NY-area Daytime Emmy Nominees, is online now! Don't forget to vote for your favorites in the TRO Daytime Cybbys!

We have created TURTLE RUN ONLINE to be your soap home in cyberspace. If there is an actor you'd like interviewed, or a question you'd like answered by producers, please let us know. We can't promise, but we will do our best to make it happen. Please click on the "Ask us/Tell us" link and submit your thoughts. Also, if you have an idea for a Weekly Poll, let us know. Submit your Weekly Poll suggestions via our "Ask us/Tell us" link.

We will likewise be scouring the internet for the best fan sites online, and will bestow the Turtle Run Purple Turtle Award to those we feel are the most original and creative. Winners of the Purple Turtle Award will be linked at Turtle Run. Stay tuned for details on how to submit your site. If you would like to link to Turtle Run, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Guess that's about all for this first Top of the Week column. We are excited about the launch of TRO, and hope you are too!

Till the top of next week,

The Top Turtle
