BBMAK on AMC, Huber leaving Harmony , A dream job & more

Many of you online Passions fans already know the work of Sharon Spaeth. She is the driving force behind the official Passions website at http://www.nbci.com/passions. Along with managing the day-to-day operation of the website, she writes all of its content including the wonderful "Bonus" features like Theresa's Diary, Sheridan's Hypnosis Tapes, and Ivy & Sam's Love Letters in collaboration with James Reilly and the writing team of Passions. It's no wonder then that several months ago, Spaeth was given the opportunity to actually write an episode of the show!

"I have always wanted to write for soaps," admitted Spaeth. A graduate of Duke University, Spaeth got a job working in daytime right out of college. "I was pretty clear on what I wanted to do," said the English major. "I tried to get into daytime right away. I did internships in college, and that led to my early jobs after college. Once I began at Passions, I told Jim (Reilly, Passions creator/head writer) about my goal to eventually write, and he was supportive of that from the beginning. I began to submit spec scripts to Jim and Peggy Schibi (Passions script editor), and luckily they liked my work."

Passions Lindsay Korman (Theresa) with Sharon Spaeth.
Spaeth wrote her spec scripts based on the actual story breakdowns for the show. According to Spaeth, there are about 10 people on the writing staff at Passions. Five breakdown writers and five script writers. "Peggy is the script editor and James is the only head writer," she said. " It was a matter of waiting for the right time, but eventually I got a call asking if I wanted to write a script that week. Of course I was beyond thrilled!"

Before joining the staff at Passions, Spaeth worked at ABC Daytime in New York on One Life to Live, and then for one of the programming execs at ABC Daytime. "I knew about Passions starting up," said Spaeth. "As it turned out, one of the producers who started up with the show was Bob Bardo. I had worked with Bob before on the Daytime Emmys. I sent my resume to him, and he wound up calling and saying he thought he had a job that would be really perfect for me."

The job turned out to be writing the website. Spaeth felt she could be very creative at that. "Plus, it would give me the opportunity to work hand and hand with the writers, especially James Reilly," she said. "I realized it would be a great opportunity for me so I jumped on it and relocated to LA."

Spaeth started on Passions in May 1999. The show launched on July 5, 1999. "I had about a month before the show actually started," she recalls, "to do the preparing for the website. Everything you see on the website, I write. Theresa's Diary is updated every single day. It's up to 700 pages. I've done the Bonuses. The big ones have been Theresa's Virtual Diary from Bermuda, Sam and Ivy's Love Letters, and Sheridan's Hypnosis Tape."

Will Spaeth's episode of Passions hold any bonuses? "Something huge that the fans have been waiting for in the Ethan/Theresa/Gwen story finally happens in my script," hinted Spaeth. So, everyone be sure to tune in! Also expect to see some really emotional stuff for Theresa. "I am very excited about this one thing in the episode," revealed Spaeth. "There is a Theresa/Ethan montage featured, and they are using Kiss Me, the song that Lindsay Korman (Theresa) wrote and sang with Travis Schuldt (Ethan) on the show. I think that will really add to the emotion of the episode."

Along with the exciting news from Spaeth on her first episode for the show, there is a great new Bonus on deck at the Passions website. "Coming up at the end of October we have a new Bonus that involves the character of Hecuba ( Robin Strasser)," revealed Spaeth. "It will be really fun. It's not really Holloween-oriented, but will involve psychic predictions for the fans that come on the website, as well as for the characters are the show. It will run for four weeks, and each week there will be something new relating to the new Hecuba character." Hecuba, as you probably know, is another witch, and has been Tabitha's nemesis for three hundred years! Spaeth is also in the process of writing her second episode of Passions. That episode will air in late November.

Does Spaeth have any words of advice for other aspiring soap opera writers? "The best thing to do is to get a job or intern at one of the soaps," she said. "It is really the only way. Once your foot is in the door, you start to read the scripts and outlines, and you can get a feel for the way soaps work. Then, and hopefully, if you are lucky enough like I was to have people who were really supportive and great, then you are on your way."

Spaeth's first episode of Passions airs Tuesday, October 10, 2000. Be sure to tune in!

Breaking Soap News & Notes

**All My Children fans Brooke's daughter Laura returns to Pine Valley! See Casting below!

**Last week Turtle Run confirmed that Liza Huber (Gwen) had indeed asked to be let out of her contract with Passions. "Working on Passions has been a great experience for me," said Huber, "and I have met some wonderful people. However, I have decided to leave the industry to make a career change." She was not specific as to going into the fashion industry, as previously reported. It is more likely that she wants some time to decide what her new career will be. What I find most interesting is that we have covered Passions events and stars a great deal. I never had the opportunity to meet Ms. Huber, as she was never in attendance at any of the functions. She was scheduled to attend the Passions Fan Luncheon (stay tuned for TRO's coverage, coming soon), but at the last minute her work schedule changed and she decided to take advantage of an extra day off to fly home to New York, her family and her real-life boyfriend for a long weekend. I have a feeling that she may have decided to head back east at every opportunity, thereby missing the many Passions events here in LA. It's a shame that we had not yet had the opportunity to schedule an official interview with her, or did not get to meet her at any Passions events, as we would have loved to help you get to know her. Such is life in soapdom. We wish her the very best in her future pursuits!

Letters to the Editor

"Has Robin Christopher (Skye, OLTL) decided not to renew her contract for 2000? She has been off for about a month? I'll miss her character as she added some trouble in the mix of everything. They should have used this character more and with other characters. Todd would have been a good match for Skye!" Hibisciz

Funny you should ask. Robin Christopher had been off the show for a while. However, according to a spokesperson for the show, she was simply "on vacation!" Skye was back in Llanview in full force last week, and watch for her storyline to continue to heat up quite a bit over the next few months in regard to both Max and Todd!

"Bruce Michael Hall in Passions. Why does he have to be a geek? He is so handsome. Why couldn't he get a good part? Goldenlion

LOL! Your eyes do not deceive you. Bruce Michael Hall is adorable. Perhaps one day his storyline will entail a "make over." Then, when Kay gets a look at handsome Reese, she is going to have heart failure! LOL Truth is, the part of Reese is a very good part for Bruce Michael Hall. It shows that although he is so handsome, he can act like a dweeb. I think he is doing a great job. For adorable photos of Bruce, stick with Turtle Run for our coverage on the Passions fan luncheon. Also, check the past articles and past exclusives sections at TRO for previous photos!

"When will Sonny say I love you to Carly and when will they admit it? Are they going to put Lucky/Liz back together again? I hope so. Then she can leave Jason alone. Are they going to put Gia/Nik together? I really hope so because they are so cute together. I would like you to ask them are they going to let Sonny/Carly be happy together and are they going to give Maurice Benard his story line? It will be good." Tracey

What great questions! But do you really want to know all the answers? Not me! I'd rather speculate a little, then tune in and watch the show to find out what happens. It's more fun that way! I will say this. Things will be heating up for Carly and Sonny and Liz and Lucky very soon so keep watching! As far as Maurice Benard and a manic/depressive storyline is concerned, I know that he would love for something to develop along those lines, especially since he not only suffers from but is a spokesperson for the disorder. Whether TPTB can work it into his storyline remains to be seen. At the General Hospital fan weekend (stay tuned for TRO's coverage, coming soon!) Maurice commented that one of the reasons there may be hesitation on the part of the writers is because they perceive that manic depressive disorder is not sexy, and Sonny is a sexy character! You can say that again, right? Well, correct me if I am wrong here, but it is my humble opinion that Maurice Benard could make the phonebook sexy! The writers have nothing to worry about. LOL

"I been looking everywhere trying to find where I can download the song, I think it's called "My Romance." It's the song that Ethan and Theresa (Passions) danced to at the Jazz club, and I hope you can help me find where I can get it, or at least who it is by. Will you help me out?" SOSJitterBug

Wow. I can hear the song in my head, but for the life of me, I haven't a clue as to who sings it, or where you can download it. I suggest that in this case, you contact the folks at Passions directly (See below for the address to the studio!) and ask them to tell you the name of the song, the artist, and if it is available online. Or, if anyone else out there knows the answer, please be kind enough to post it on the TRO Message boards. Thanks!

"I have a subscriber that would like to know what Wortham Krimmer (ex-Andrew, OLTL) has been doing since leaving the show. His family lives in CA and he used to commute to NY to film his scenes. Can you find out or do you know what he has been doing and if he is involved in any new projects?" MrsDrBean

Wortham Krimmer does indeed live in CA and commuted to NY for his scenes on One Life to Live. In fact, you are in luck because he will be commuting again very soon. He will make an encore appearance in Llanview when his skills as a reverend will once again be required. This time in regard to Viki! He will commute back to NY later this month to shoot his scenes. Watch for them to air sometime in November or early December. Since leaving the show earlier this year, he has kept himself busy out in Los Angeles appearing on stage in various plays.

"Do you update the Daily Episode Guide everyday? If you could tell me cause on my computer it still has Friday's up and someone said that Tuesday's is up but NOT here. Thanks." CourtStar

TRO's Daily Episode Guide is updated every day, Monday-Friday, unless there are some unforeseen technical difficulties. (Technology is grand, except when it doesn't work! LOL) However, if you are having trouble seeing the new updates each day, it may be due to your browser. AOL tends to have a problem with this due to their cache system. If you are on AOL try these solutions to refresh your page. In the upper left hand corner of the AOL Navigation Bar you will see a little circular arrow. That is AOL's reload/refresh button. Click on that. If the page still doesn't change, then go into your AOL preferences, find the WWW preferences, and empty the cache. Close out of AOL, reboot your computer and try again. For anyone who visits TRO directly via the internet and it does not appear that the daily episode guides have changed, try clicking the refresh or reload button. Hope that helps!

Bubbles Busted?

Although the internet is a wonderful way for fans to communicate about soapdom, networks and show producers still tend to attribute more importance to snail mail than email. If there is something that you really want the producers and the network of your favorite show to hear about, drop them a line the old fashioned way!
