TRO on AOL, Houston needs some Passion, AW fan reunion and more

Turtle-Run Online is extremely delighted to be included as a featured link on AOL's Soaps Main Screen! Special thanks to Moon and Savvy.

In addition, TRO congratulates the AOL Soap Opera forum and it's participants for being the fastest growing forum on America Online. Five of their Soaps Message Boards made it into the top six of the AOL Entertainment Channel's "Most Frequented Message Boards" last week, and their weekly chats consistently rank in the top ten of AOL's Entertainment Channel's most populated chats! Wow! Congrats to forum leaders, message board monitors, chat hosts, and forum participants. Way to go!

For TRO visitors who are also members of AOL but have yet to find the AOL Soaps Forum, I recommend that you pay them a visit at Keyword: SOAPS. Be sure to say "Hi" for us.

For AOL members who have found Turtle-Run via the AOL Soaps Forum, welcome! Pull up a keyboard and continue your soaps discussion right here on TRO's Message Boards and in the TRO Suds Buzz Chat Room.

Congratulations are likewise in order for TRO's next round of Purple Turtle Award winning websites! As you know, TRO appreciates all the hard work that everyone puts into creating a fan site for a favorite soap, character and/or star. For those sites that show a workable understanding of web production, an exceptional and or clever take on the world of soapdom, and provide a fair amount of original content and commentary, we are proud to honor with our Purple Turtle Award. This quarter, the Purple Turtle was awarded to:

*Almost Human's Daytime Soap Operas Site
*GIJane113's Timmy Avenue
*Julianne Morris fan page
*Leslie's SoapLinks
*Missy's Passions Page
*Sonnymama's AMCDaytime

These sites are now linked on Turtle-Run's links page in the Purple Turtle Award winners circle! Congratulations. Thanks to everyone who submitted their site for a Purple Turtle Award. If you were not awarded a Purple Turtle this time and have added features to your site since your original submission, or if you have not yet submitted your site for Purple Turtle Award consideration, please follow the Submission Guidelines and submit your site to us for the next round! Best of luck and congratulations again to our new Purple Turtle Award winners and to everyone who has devoted time and energy in creating a web home for their favorite show or star! Keep up the great work on your sites.

Soap News & Notes

Here's something surprising. Kazoooooom has just notified us that that the Houston market does not get Passions! She is requesting that all Passions fans unite to help bring Passions to Houston. Visit her page at hometown.aol.com/kazoooooom/myhomepage/profile.html for further details.

The First Annual Another World Fan Reunion will take place in New York City the weekend of June 24th. Linda Dano (Ex-Felicia), Stephen Schnetzer (Ex-Cass Winthrop), Anna Stuart (Ex-Donna), Michael Roderick (Ex-Cameron), and Les Brandt (Ex-Rafael) are the first stars who have verified that they will be joining fans from all over the United States and Canada as they reunite to celebrate the soap opera Another World. The event is being held at Blondie's at 212 West 79th Street in New York City from 12PM until 4PM on June 24, 2000. For more information, visit the Committee to Save Another World's website at http://www.saveaw.homepage.com.

ABC Daytime commemorates the eighth annual Day of Compassion on Wednesday, June 21, 2000 on its entire daytime lineup. (See TRO's Sneak Peeks, Week of June 19-23, 2000 for specific Day of Compassion storylines.) Day of Compassion, an annual media event devoted to AIDS/HIV awareness, began in 1993 when actor Neil Tadken watched an AIDS-themed episode of One Life to Live, and was inspired by its honest communication of the AIDS crisis. ABC.com is selling Nurses Ball t-shirts to raise money for the cause, as a portion of the proceeds will be donated to help support the fight against this dread disease. Last year, ABC Daytime donated $20,000 to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The money was raised through the sale of t-shirts from the sixth annual Nurses' Ball. Help raise even more this year by buying your Nurses Ball t-Shirt today!

In other ABC News, Angela Shapiro, president ABC Daytime and Felicia Minei Behr, senior VP, programming, ABC Daytime have promoted Sue Johnson to director, daytime programming, east coast, effective immediately. Ms. Johnson will be the network programming executive for All My Children and One Life to Live, and will report directly to Ms. Behr. Most recently, Johnson served as programming coordinator, ABC Daytime, where her responsibilities included tracking storyline for a single character, Rae Cummings (Linda Dano), who appeared on one each of ABC's four soaps. Johnson joined ABC Daytime in 1993 as executive assistant to then ABC Daytime president, Patricia Fili-Krushel. Prior to that, she worked at Lifetime Television as executive assistant, programming. Johnson received her master's degree in film and television from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Our congratulations to Ms. Johnson on her promotion.

More from ABC Daytime. Things are getting hot around Port Charles, Pine Valley, and Llanview. To cool them off, expect to see a major ad campaign with the tag line: "Plunge in this Summer!" It is a large-scale television and print summer promotion campaign, and will feature the teen stars of all four soaps. The design of the campaign is to increase awareness by providing a sampling of the ABC Daytime dramas, targeting a new audience that is available to view soaps during the traditional school break period. Angela Shapiro said: "The campaign goal is to attract new viewers by conveying the essence of our shows through the inherent appeal of the characters. We hope that this introductory glimpse at these characters will point viewers toward the shows, which include a larger canvas of compelling characters and storylines. Strategically, it is critical to reach the new viewer at this point in her life, in order to achieve significant audience growth." The "Plunge in this Summer" creative focuses on younger characters, and will specifically appeal to young females between the ages of 16 and 24. On-air spots will appear on the network, and print ads will run in young woman's beauty and lifestyle magazines throughout the summer months. The campaign will also be supported by abc.com/soaps, where viewers with internet access can click on the black-and-yellow ad icons to get an introduction to all the teen characters on ABC Daytime. Then, a Plunge-in pool motif loads and shows where all four show's teen characters live. Users can click and drag their favorite show and view a pop-up of their favorite teen with his/her vital statistics, providing an immediate way for new viewers to get to know a character or vote for the hottest teen on ABC Daytime!

From Soapcity: What do today's hottest soap opera stars including this year's Daytime Emmy winners Shemar Moore and David Tom of The Young & The Restless and Sarah Brown of General Hospital and the "biggest" names in pro-wrestling including Sting, Kimberly Page and Mike Awesome possibly have in common? A passion for pets... and painting! Twenty-five of the nominees and winners from this year's Daytime Emmy Awards have joined forces with the nation's top pro-wrestlers putting their artistic talents to work for the sake of "Fido." This unlikely combo have painted and autographed one-of-a-kind pet food bowls that will be put up for auction online at SoapCity.com to help raise funds for The Humane Society of New York. The auction begins June 19 at 12 PM ET through June 28 at 8 PM ET. This signature collection of pet dinnerware which premiered at The SoapCity Games: Daytime Rumbles has been created and/or signed by soap stars including Robert S. Woods, Jonathan Jackson, Patrika Darbo, Susan Flannery, Camryn Grimes, and more, and WCW talent such as Kevin Nash, Scott "Poppa Pump" Steiner and Diamond Dallas Page. Bill Goldberg, a/k/a "Goldberg," the holder of the longest winning streak in pro-wrestling and The Humane Society's national spokesperson, has donated signed posters and lithographs that will also be available at SoapCity.com during the doggy bowl auction. Profits from the online auction will go to The Humane Society of New York.

All My Children

There have been some rumors circulating message boards that Lawrence Lau will be returning to the show reprising the role of Greg Nelson. Not true. There are no plans to bring back this actor or the character. Also, there will be no new third wheel coming in between Tad and Dixie as per another internet rumor mentioning the actress Signey Coleman. However, there will be some casting announcements for All My Children in the next few weeks. Stay tuned to Top of the Week for the latest news.

Glenn Taranto continues as the strip club manager, and Ruth Silveria is Nurse Morales on Monday, June 19, 2000. Cynthia Decure plays Officer Simmons on Tuesday, June 20, 2000. When asked to confirm or deny recent rumors that Taylor Anne Mountz will be leaving the show to pursue a college education, the show's publicist had no comment at this time, but promises to keep Turtle-Run informed of any break in this story. Gordon Thompson, known for his roles on Dynasty and Sunset Beach, has been cast in the recurring role of FBI Agent, Hal Freeman. His first air date was Friday, June 16, 2000. Special thanks to TRO regular and resident teacher turned Passions fan, RPatton, for putting me on the trail of this next casting coup for Passions: Maureen McCormick has been signed in the recurring role of Rebecca Hotchkiss, Gwen's mom. (Guess Susan Lucci was busy! LOL) You'll remember McCormick as one of the famous and original "Brady Bunch!" She has appeared in many of the Brady made-4-television movies including: Brady Brides, The Brady Girls Get Married and A Very Brady Christmas. She was also seen on Happy Days, Nancy Drew, and films including Idolmaker, Dogtown, Skatetown, U.S.A., and more!
