Top storylines, SSW6, Keating to PC & Soap Center must sees

Dear Suds Buds:

Believe it or not, it has been a fairly quiet week in Soapdom.  Breaking newswise that is!  LOL  As for the soap storylines themselves, we have seen a number of interesting turns of events.   On Passions, the character of Theresa, wrought with frustration and fear of losing the man she loves forever, actually raised a fire poker to a woman in a wheelchair in order to preserve her latest secret. On As the World Turns, Bryant was killed off rather suddenly in a car accident.  I still cannot believe that one.  But you know, killing off a character so abruptly does make for intriguing story development in the wake of the tragic death.  It will be interesting to see just how that one pans out.  My guess? Carly and Craig will get together. You heard it here first, ATWT fans.  But it's only a guess. We will have to tune in and see.  On GeneralHospital it doesn't look good for Scotty and Laura, or does it?  But I gotta admit it.  My favorite GH couple is Nik and Gia.  They work, IMHO. LOL  Speaking of soap couples, Chloe may be in for a run for her money on Days of our Lives, as another young beauty sets her sights on Philip!  (See below.)

There's plenty of buzz on the Turtle-Run Message Boards.  Some Y&R fans are concerned with the downward spiral the character of Raul is taking of late; many AMC fans are livid over the fact that Tad may once again be keeping Leslie a secret from Dixie (Wait till you see what happens this week.); and one PC fan has some very definite opinions on the vampire storyline in light of the tragic events of 9/11.

The good news is we do have our soaps to watch and discuss.  Regardless of the harsh realities of the world around us, we can always escape into the fantasy world of our soaps for an hour or so a day. For many, their favorite soap is a welcome relief.  "Give me my hot bath in the evening and my soap at noon," my mom used to say!  And on Halloween I met a very nice woman who shared with me that she watches All My Children at work. Never misses a day!

SuperSoap Weekend 6

It's SuperSoap time again, and as we go to press on this Top of the Week, ABC executives were all getting ready to head on down to Florida for the festivities.  SoapCenter's Peggy Bunker and Tanika Ray will be covering the event front to back for airing on SoapCenter at a later date.  There are many festivities planned including a breakfast with Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC) and fans from her internet chat club, an ABC SuperSoap Weekend Talk Show, hosted for the first time this year by Linda Dano (Rae, OLTL). Previously hosted by Catherine Hickland (Lindsay, OLTL), Dano will interview some of soaps biggest and brightest stars in this non-stop, round-the-clock soap talk show. And the ABC SuperSoap Street Jam Concert featuring performances by Susan Lucci, Kassie DePaiva (Blair, OLTL) and Catherine Hickland (Lindsay, OLTL), Wally Kurth (Ned, GH), Coltin Scott ... who really rocks, by the way! (Nik, GH), and others.

For those of you who attended SSW6, I hope you had a blast.  And for those who are perhaps considering attending next year, I say don't hesitate another second. It's an amazing way to get up close and personal (barring a few lines and dealing with the crowds).  To get the SSW fever, revisit Turtle-Run's Top of the Week coverage of SSW5. Click on the "Past Top of the Week" link and read November 20, 27 and  December 4 and 11, 2000.

GH Star Gives Birth to Halloween Baby!

Congratulations are in order to Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth) and Michael Saucedo (ex Juan) who have just had their first child.  Baby Ethan Saucedo joined the world on Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at1:22 AM, just making the fun distinction of being born on Halloween.  The little guy weighed in at 7 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 20" tall. Mom, dad and baby Ethan are all doing great. Congrats, guys!

Port Charles Scores Acting Coup

Film, television and theater star, Charles Keating, returns to Port Charles as the character of James.  It seems that Caleb will be in need of some assistance with his evil machinations, and James is just the person to come on board and help him out!

With an impressive list of credits, Keating has worked in such films as "The Thomas Crown Affair," "Awakenings," "Harlem Aria," and "The Bodyguard."  He has guest-starred on a number of top-rated television shows including "Sex in the City," "The Equalizer," "A Talent for Murder," "Hotel," and "Miami Vice," among others.

Keating has also worked in a number of British television series including "Brideshead Revisited," "Edward and Mrs. Simpson," "Richard II," and "Tales of the "Unexpected."  His extensive list of theatre preformances includes productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Crucible Theater, Bankside Globe and the KennedyCenter.

ATWT's Terri Conn Takes New Name as Katie Shares her Hopes & Dreams with YOU

Terri Conn (Katie, ATWT), has just announced that from now on she will be using her married name as her official nom du star! She has officially taken her husband's last name "Colombino," as her professional name.  So, when you see the name Terri Colombino mentioned in the magazines or on cast lists, don't think that the powers that be at ATWT have recast the part of Katie.  Heck no! It's just that now, she has expressed the desire to go by her married name.

But that's not all. On Wednesday, November 7, Katie presents Simon with her hope chest on-air.  And on www.astheworldturns-tv.com, you can take you own special peek at Katie's hope and dreams in her  "A Journal of Our Love scrapbook."  Also on November 7, be sure to check out Abi-Mail where you can see the videotape of Molly and Jake's wedding that was shot and edited by Nick.

DOOL's Philip Gets Ego Boost from Cynthia

This week on Days of our Lives, lovelorn Philip gets a shot in the arm when Cynthia comes back into his life with nothing but the hots for guy.  But who is this Cynthia when she's at home, you may be asking?  Cynthia first appeared on the show when all the teens went to Puerto Rico on their class trip last summer.  Chloe better make up her mind and quick because word has it that Philip and Cynthia are meant to "get to know each other a little better" in the weeks to come!  SIZZLE ALERT!

Now on SoapCenter as of Friday,November 2, 2001

Character Profile: Beth's Look-Alike on Guiding Light

Beth Chamberlin played feisty Beth Raines from 1989 until the character's death last summer in a flash flood. But, in true soap fashion, Beth Raines' death doesn't mean Beth Chamberlin is leaving the soap. Since September, she's played trashy Lorelei Hills, a woman who bears more than a slight resemblance to the late Beth. In this package, Chamberlin talks about the challenges of playing a new role on her old show and gives viewers insight into Lorelei's character.

Spotlight: Feast With Famous Faces

One Life to Live's James and Kassie DePaiva (Blair and Max), some of their famous soap friends and the best chefs in New York teamed up at a recent benefit for the League for the Hard of Hearing. The result? Good food for a good cause.

She's Alexis's sister, but that's just about all we know about this mysterious General Hospitalnewcomer Kristina -- until now. Actress Jamie RayNewman reveals new details about her rookie character, including hints about Kristina's new love interest.
