Summer Spotlight at House of Blues, Who's Going Where & More

Dear Suds Buds:

Happy summer everyone!  Have you all planned your vacations yet? If not, you're in luck.  We've asked ABC, CBS and NBC soap celebs where they are heading this summer.  Both this week and next in Top of the Week we'll share with you just how the stars intend to spend their summer vacations.  Maybe you'll get some ideas!

What's more, Turtle-Run partied with the soap stars last week at the House of Blues in West Hollywood.  We've got all sorts of juicy tidbits to share with you regarding the festivities including who was there, and who said what.  So, without further ado, sit back, relax and scroll away!

Soap Stars Rock the House of Blues

by Jessica Radloff

Sure, the temperature was hot and the late afternoon sun was beating down hard, but nothing could shield the star power that was out in full force at Seventeen Magazine's "Hollywood Spotlight" Party on Thursday evening, June 14th.  Held at the Sunset Strip's House of Blues in West Hollywood, California, the teen magazine 's VIP party celebrated Summer 2001's hottest young singers and groups.

But aside from such celebs as Mandy Moore, Evan & Jaron, 3LW, Ray J, Nelly Furtado, Hanson, Brandy, and the Olson twins, NBC's daytime line-up made quite the splash with a slew of actors from "Days of our Lives" and "Passions."  Turtle-Run was there to cover all the red-carpet arrivals, VIP room happenings, and of course, to have a little fun as well!

"Passion's" Bruce Michael Hall (Reese) was one of the first to arrive and graciously took some time out to dish up some of the latest gossip in Harmony.  "Everything's awesome.  Actually, today was a fun day, but my booty kinda hurts, and in four weeks you'll know why!" Hall teased.  Aside from what Hall has already taped, Turtle-Run inquired as to what he would like to have happen on the show.  "I would love to have a musical version of Passions!  Everything done with a song!   Very Moulin Rougish.  I think that would be a blast!"

As far as storyline goes, "Passions" newcomer, Chrystee Phariss (Simone), doesn't seem to care what happens as long as she's acting and living out her dream.  "Let me tell you, this is a dream come true," she revealed.  "It is everything that I have ever dreamed about since I was four years old.  I couldn't ask for a better cast or group of people to start my first time on a series with, and it's been great," Pharris exclaims.  In reality, "Passions" is not Chrystee's first soap.  It's her third!.  She was an intern at "The Young and the Restless" and later had a recurring role on "General Hospital."  In the midst of her biggest and juiciest role to date, the third time is definitely the charm!

Looking very dapper in a leather coat and jeans, "Days of our Lives'" Kyle Brandon Lowder (Brady) echoed Pharris' sentiments.  "We just found out that Days got the highest ratings of all the soap operas for the 18-49 demo group.  The show is really dominating--it's better than ever.  I'm so happy to be a part of that," Lowder said. Aside from TV ratings and shares, Lowder was just thrilled to be participating in the evening's festivities. "Actually, I just got to see the Olson twins for the first time and I think they're so hot!  I grew up watching 'Full House' and even though I'm so much older than them, it's really cool to see them here tonight!"

Co-star Farah Fath (Mimi) also couldn't wait to meet up with the Olson twins.  "I had no clue as to who was going to be here, but I've seen a lot of cute stars like (Mary Kate and Ashley) Olson and I was excited about that," Fath shared.  But aside from the twins, Fath wanted to talk about some more serious matters:  like who her character should be paired with romantically!  "I believe Belle and Shawn are meant to be together, and Brady and Chloe, so I'll take Phillip!  Bring him on!"

Fath's on and off-screen pal, Kirsten Storms (Belle) was also sharing in the fun.  "The highlight of the evening is running into all my friends.  There are a lot of cute guys!" Storms said.  The evening's festivities were a nice break from her otherwise non-stop, crazy schedule.  "Oh my gosh, it's so crazy.  We've been working like 15, 16 hour days and that's on set, all the time.  I mean, we're working a lot, but we're certainly enjoying it."

Before you think NBC Daytime dominated the evening's fun and festive atmosphere, "Bold and the Beautiful" co-stars Adrienne Frantz (Amber) and Jennifer Finnigan (Bridget) made sure they were on tap to share in the fun as well.  Turtle-Run couldn't wait to congratulate Frantz on her recent Younger Actress Emmy win. "It was awesome.  I'm still on a high from that night," she said. "It's amazing.  You know, every time I look at it, I'm like, oh my gosh! It's an Emmy!" Frantz exclaimed.  Since winning her first Daytime Emmy, Franz has had her hands full with more than just the statuette.  "It's (been) very hectic and very busy.  I've been doing a lot of work and basically tons of interviews. I don't have a moment to breathe."

One of the evening's other highlights was catching up the very talented and spunky Evan Rachel Wood of ABC's "Once and Again."  Much taller in person than you'd might expect, 13-year-old Wood is quite excited that her critically acclaimed series will be back for a third season.  "The last episode I was balling my eyes out on the set and I was like, 'this show HAS to get picked up!'  And when I found out (that it did get renewed), I was crying again I was so happy!" Wood enthusiastically told us.  As far as her character is concerned, Wood shares that Jessie will be faced with numerous guys vying for her attention come the new season.  But with all that attention, comes trepidation. "She's not quite ready for that yet," Wood remarked. "It might overwhelm her a little bit," she said.

All in all, the evening was full of great food, good music, screaming and devoted fans, and endless excitement.  Hope you've got a pool nearby--Summer 2001 is going to be nothing short of a scorcher!

Where the Soap Stars are Headed for Summer Vacation

Speaking of summer fun, Turtle-Run asked tons of stars how they would be spending their time off this summer.  If they even get any time off this summer!  Here's what we found out!

"No, they don't give us vacation time!  They don't give us weekends!  But I'm going to try and spend some time outside this summer.  Last summer, I was indoors the entire summer and I got really white.  I'm usually really dark since I'm Italian, and so I got the whitest I've ever been last year because I was indoors like almost all year long, working on the show.  I was like, Damn!  I was almost as white as this shirt (points to his sparkling white shirt that he's wearing).  That's like not normal!  So I want to spend some more time outdoors, but no trips.  There's no time for trips, so I'm just going to be working. It's good because we love it. They may even send us on location, so I may even be able to work outdoors which is like the best of both worlds."

DARLENE VOGEL (Melanie, One Life to Live)
"I'm going to go to Europe with Erin Torpey (Jessica, OLTL) and Mark Derwin (Ben, OLTL) and we're all going there, and (then) the latter part of the summer, going out to the Hamptons.  We're going to Milan for a couple of days just to go shopping, Erin and I.  Then we're hooking up with Mark Derwin in the south of France.  We all have the Fourth of July week off."

BILLY KAY (Shayne, Guiding Light)
"I'm going to go to Vancouver to shoot Halloween 8 with Jamie Lee Curtis, Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks. Very exciting, I can't wait! I'm also writing a script of my own and that's taking up a lot of my time, a lot of recreational time.  But other than that, I'm just going to relax and see what hits me.  I'm auditioning, just working hard, that's about it.  I'm not a beach boy.  I was just in LA for a while, and I'm so not the beach person. I'm such a New Yorker--I'd rather sit on the concrete and burn up!"

"I'm going to Disneyworld. [laughs] I know, I sound like I just won the Superbowl. I'm going to Disneyworld! I'm going with my entire family and their significant others, nieces, nephews. We're staying a few days."

MARISA RAMIREZ (Gia, General Hospital)
"I don't get a summer vacation!" I've been told the kids get to work a lot during the summer, so it's a good way to spend the summer. Making money! I don't have any complaints about that. I have time on the weekends to go to the beach and do my own thing. We're (she and her significant other, Jack) pretty much homebodies.  We stay home and play dominoes and darts and we just got furniture, so we're rearranging everything right now.  We have a little puppy and I love spending time with him."

RYAN MCPARTLAND (Hank, Passions)
"Basically I go home every chance I get, so that's Chicago.  I have a new niece who came about a few weeks ago--Kendall is her name--so I'm going to spend some time with Kendall."

JULIANNE MORRIS (Greta, Days of Our Lives)
"I feel like every weekend there's something going on like a P.A. (public appearance).  I'm going to Rhode Island, I'm going to the Hamptons for a week.  I'm going in July.  I'm going with some girlfriends, so wherever they take me I'll end up! I have no idea, I've only been there once and it was a couple of years ago."

DAVID TOM (Billy, Young & the Restless)
"I've never been to a tropical island, so a couple of friends of mine and I are going to go maybe to Tahiti or something like that.  Yeah, take some time off from work and chill."

BEN MASTERS (Julian, Passions)
"I'm going up to Oregon and staying on the Oregon coast.  I grew up in Oregon.  I'm going to go up there and stay in a little beach condo.  It's so beautiful.  Yeah--that's all, eat some fish and drink some wine and relax."

KYLE BRANDON LOWDER (Brady, Days of our Lives)
"Working! I'm serious, all summer long.  We've got a huge storyline!"

CATHERINE HICKLAND (Lindsay, One Life to Live)
"Michael (E. Knight, Tad, AMC) and I are going off to Santa Barbara on a vacation that I desperately need, just so I can get my sanity back. I'm very excited about that. It's hard to coordinate the time off to take vacations together."

BRUCE MICHAEL HALL (Reese, Passions)
"I plan to work a lot. Actually, I do have a week off in July and I'd love to go home and see Mom.  Hi, Mom. I miss you, I love you!"

ADRIENNE FRANTZ (Amber, Bold & the Beautiful)
"They're giving me a little time off to go to Hawaii on Tuesday, so I'm excited.  I'll be there for a week. I'm also going to Australia in July, so I'm excited about that."

NADIA BJORLIN (Chloe, Days of our Lives)
"No, actually we're all working the entire summer.  There's no stop to us. Not even a hiatus.  I know I'll be doing a personal appearance in South Carolina, so hopefully we'll get to other places like that for a weekend. I love doing that, so that should be fun, but so far, just basically working the entire summer."

PETER BERGMAN (Jack, Young & the Restless)
"My family and I are going to Italy in June and we have a 14-year-old boy and an 11-year-old daughter who have never been to New York, and so we're very excited about sharing that with them."

KIKO ELSWORTH (Jamal, Port Charles)
"Spain! I'll probably go for 8-10 days.  I'll probably check out Madrid, Barcelona and travel the train over there and check out some things.  By the time I get back I'll be fluent in Spanish.  I know a lot of Spanish right now, but I'm just really rusty because I never talk it or have anyone to talk it with.  But I'll come back fluent!"

Stay tuned to Turtle-Run's Top of the Week next week for more soap star summer vacation plans!

Meet Port Charles' Brian Presley

Brian Presley (Jack) is a former college quarterback. However, he left football behind at the University of Arkansas to pursue a career in acting. From the time he was eight years old, until the present, he has had an affinity for musical theater and sports. Following his true passion, Presley arrived in Los Angeles without any contacts and quickly familiarized himself with the area.  Within weeks, he began auditioning and earned membership in the Screen Actors Guild.

Presley's television credits include "Seventh Heaven," "Moesha," "Any Day Now" and "Beverly Hills 90210." He also performed in regional stage productions of "A Lie in the Mind," "Private Wars," "A Few Good Men," and "Beyond Therapy."   As a favor, he recently returned to his alma mater for the sold-out production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" in which he portrayed Pharaoh.

Raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Presley enjoys most athletic activities, including golf, cycling and running.  He still finds the time to play guitar and frequently works with various outreach programs that help enhance the lives of disadvantaged children.

Eddie Velez will be joining the cast of DOOL in the contract role of Paul Walker.  He will impact the lives of several Salem residents.

Reilly, the producers, and the cast and crew of "Passions."  "Passions" was up against veteran soap "Guiding Light" for this honor, and is thrilled to be named the winner.

And on "Sex in the City..."
