Vieria hosts SSW7, Telemundo in Harmony, Casting news & more

Linda Marshall-Smith, Soapdom, CEODear Suds Buds:

Real nip of fall in the air here in sunny southern CA. I was out for my morning constitutional, otherwise known as my training for the Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk which is rapidly approaching, and leaves were beginning to change color. Yup. That's correctomundo. The leaves do change color here in LA. It snows here, too. Up in the mountains. You can see the snow-capped mountain peeks -- or drive 60 miles for a nice ski weekend -- yet live in 65-70 degree temps all week long. You really can't beat southern California weather.

Know what else you can't beat? The continuing stories that are daytime drama. Every season, every year, writers craft plots and storylines that engage us. Sometimes we get a little frustrated by what we feel is lackluster writing or contrived plots. But whatever they're doing, they're doing it right, cos we are hooked! We tune in day after day for our regular dose and crab and moan when our daily fix is pre-empted.

Did you know that on the average, soap writers pump out about 600 pages of material a week? Yipes! Incredible, huh? It may not be Shakespeare every day, but who'd want all that iambic pentameter anyway? LOL

Telemundo Star Maria Celeste Arraras Will Appear as Herself in Two Thanksgiving Episodes of Passions!

NBC and Telemundo networks today announced that award-winning journalist Maria Celeste Arraras, one of the most popular Spanish-language television news personalities and anchor of "Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste," will make a guest appearance on NBC's daytime drama "Passions" on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 29.

Arraras, who joined the Telemundo in April 2002, is playing herself in the daytime NBC series. She will be performing as a longtime friend of Pilar (Eva Tamargo Lemus) who visits her during a Latin version of the traditional Thanksgiving.

In addition to anchoring "Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste," Arraras also serves as managing editor for the one-hour news magazine, which airs Monday-Friday (5 p.m. ET). "Al Rojo Vivo" is a news program with an edge that delivers the hottest news stories daily.

"It's a very exciting challenge because, even though I play myself, the part involves acting, which is something very different from what I do on camera every day," says Arraras. "I'm also proud to be part of a U.S. Hispanic celebration of Thanksgiving in such a highly rated soap opera."

Since its debut last April, Telemundo's "Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste" has captured the audience in U.S. by storm. The show is No. 1 in New York, beating all English and Spanish programs that air in the time slot.

SOAPNet's SoapTalk Marathon!
