Dear Suds Buds,

I know we’ve touched on this before, but it seems that it’s ever more prevalent this fall season. Soap stars have overtaken prime time!  At this moment, 10 daytime stars now starring in prime time shows, come immediately to mind.  Here’s the short list:

Paul Leyden (ex Simon, ATWT) stars on LAX on NBC.
Kirsten Storms (ex Belle, DOOL) stars on Clubhouse on CBS.
Richard Steinmetz (Martin, PAS) plays a recurring role on Clubhouse.
Jensen Ackles (ex Eric, DOOL) recurring on Smallville.
Vanessa Marcil (ex Brenda, GH) stars on Las Vegas on NBC.
Josh Duhamel (ex Leo, AMC) stars on Las Vegas on NBC.
Anne Heche (ex Vicki AW) stars on Everwood on The WB.
Kelly Ripa (ex Hayley AMC) stars on Hope & Faith on ABC.
Jesse Metcalfe (ex Miguel, PAS) stars on Desperate Housewives on ABC.
Eva Longoria (ex Isabella, Y&R) stars on Desperate Housewives on ABC.

Have I missed anyone?  If so, please post on the message boards in the Criticize the Critic folder.

I don’t know about you, but I think this is wonderful.  It shows that all the hard work and discipline an actor learns on daytime, is paying off for them in the prime time arena.  Pretty faces notwithstanding, prime time is a far different animal than daytime, and it does my heart good to see so many daytime stars succeeding on the nighttime line ups.

It also goes to disprove the myth that primetime producers consider daytime actors second-class talent  That may have been the sentiment a few years ago, but not any longer.  Not if this fall season is any indication.

We may miss our favorites in daytime, but I for one am delighted to see them spreading their wings and taking off in a new format.  It’s a win-win for everyone.  What do you think? Tell me your thoughts on the Criticize the Critic boards.

Til the top of next week,
