It always warms my heart to see soap stars appear in other genres, be it prime time or feature films. Recently, I saw the DVD of Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Housewife,” starring (among others), Y&R’s own Shemar Moore (Malcolm). I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Moore, who is always more than gracious. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing his work on Y&R, where he consistently delivers. But I was most pleasantly surprised by his performance in Mad Housewife. He was tough, yet vulnerable. Soft spoken, yet authoritative. Unassuming but forceful. Oh, and did I mention oh so sexy? For those of you who may not have seen this yet, I won’t spill the beans on whether he gets the girl in the end or not, but I highly recommend renting or buying this DVD to add to your collection of fun, outlandish and touching romantic comedies. “Diary of a Mad Housewife also stars Tyler Perry, who plays a number of roles, including dressing in drag as the family matriarch. Other familiar faces include The Practice’s Steve Harris as the nasty husband, Kimberly Elise as the Mad Housewife, and Cicely Tyson as the housewife’s mom.
