SOD Awards and Fan Fest Coverage
Plus Weather Effects on a Soap Sound Stage
Hi Suds Buds:
We have spent the better part of last week, and it looks like we still need more of this coming week, to produce our exclusive coverage of both SOAPnet Presents the SOD Awards 2003 and NBC/Teleumendo’s Fan Festival, both held the weekend of April 5-6, 2003.
For the SOD Awards coverage we have over 100 exclusive photos of not one, not two, but just shy of 50 of your favorite soap celebrities! Plus, we have tons of fun items to share about the event, including our review of the broadcast itself. Much of this coverage is already online, but we will be adding to it early in the week until the coverage is complete. If you see a star’s name, but it’s not linked to the feature page on that star, it’s because we are still producing the photos and/or mini interview material. Please keep checking back this week as we complete this amazing amount of coverage.
As we have been working diligently on getting all the SOD Awards coverage produced and online, we have our Fan Fest coverage waiting on deck to be uploaded next. Keep checking back to Soapdom.com this week for all this exciting stuff!
On to the soaps. Last night it poured cats and dogs in Los Angeles. Now, I know where that expression came from. When it rains in LA, boy does it RAIN! The deluge woke me from a sound sleep. I was reminded of a scene from General Hospital last week. Luke was talking with Summer. It was raining, but I could not figure out if they were inside or outside in the rain. We heard sounds like rain. When the camera was on Summer we saw what looked to be rain falling, but when the camera reversed and the shot was on Luke, there were no rain drops.
Creating weather on a sound stage is nothing short of a techno miracle. In this case, I don’t think that the GH folks did the best job of it. But there have been some truly astounding weather effects used on soaps over the years. A tornado hitting Pine Valley on All My Children comes to mind. Hurricanes, earthquakes, train wrecks – not really an act of nature, but a force to be reckoned with just the same – are always used to bring about some major storyline development on the show. Nora’s missing and presumed dead on OLTL after the aforementioned train wreck. Tad has on out of body experience and sees his long-deceased sister Jenny on the way to the pearly gates during the tornado in Pine Valley. Do you have a favorite weather or catastrophe-related storyline that caused some major plot development on your favorite show? Let us know in the Criticize the Critic folder on the Soapdom.com Message Boards .
