OLTL Storyline Rehash and
Love Songs of Llanview

Dear Suds Buds,

How long have you OLTL fans been watching the show?  For those of you who are old timers, I am willing to wager that you remember Viki’s bouts with her split personality alter ego, Niki, as if it were yesterday.  For those who are newer to the activities in Llanview, I’ll bring you up to speed.  Viki fought for years to battle her split personality Niki who was the epitome of Viki’s dark side.  Niki did all in her power to thwart Viki’s good intentions, and brought Viki to the point of total collapse.  It took a while for Viki to first admit there was a problem, then to seek help for it and recover, but Llanview’s prima diva finally got back to herself, her life, and her publishing empire.

It now appears that the powers that be at OLTL are of a mind that the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree.  They say (whoever they are) that mental illness can be hereditary, and the writers of OLTL are following that premise by making Jessica experience very similar symptoms with a manifestation of her split personality, Tess.  Although, from what my Mom told me, Niki’s exploits were far worse than Tess’ – so far.

What do you guys think of this blatant and obvious plot rehash? I know we’ve talked about recycling storylines before, but the Viki/Niki story was such an amazing journey for the character.  It’s almost one of those “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” scenarios. To see the same storyline played over again with Viki’s offspring is just well, lukewarm at best for me.  But maybe that’s just me.

Speaking of One Life to Live, I am listening to the very first collection of songs from this soap.  The CD is called Favorite Songs Heard on One Life to Live and it’s a really great CD!  I remember hearing some of this music from Al and Marci’s Voice of the Night radio show, and a few hot love scenes.  At Soapdom, we often get email asking “Who sang that song when such and such did this and that on some soap or other.”  Well, fans of OLTL will be happy to know that now you can have the music from your show for your very own.  The company that’s producing the CD’s, also produces and publishes the music that you hear on a number of your favorite soaps. So far, they have produced CDs for OLTL, AMC and Y&R.  Gotta tell you, I am pleasantly surprised by the music.  It’s got feeling, it’s catchy, and it brings back memories from some of my favorite scenes on OLTL.  You can sample some of the tracks on all three CDs by clicking the SoapSongs banner on the upper right of any content page at  Enjoy!
