PC is Torn, DAYS out in front, Fan Fair & more

Linda Marshall-SmithDear Suds Buds,

On July 1, 2002 Port Charles launches its eighth book, "Torn." In reporting about that story (see below), I got to thinking this:

If there are vampires and angels and supernatural beings in Port Charles on "Port Charles," how come none of the "General Hospital" Port Charles denizens have been effected? Like why haven't we seen Carly getting bitten by a vamp? Or Jax ending up in General Hospital after an encounter with a fallen angel? How come the demons and angels are only showing up on the "Port Charles" side of Port Charles? LOL

That kind of thinking is what I like to call a "Preposterous Pondering." Here's another one. Anna's nephew Aidan arrives in Pine Valley. Anna is from England. Her nephew is presumably British as well. How come he has an Aussie accent? LOL

What Preposterous Ponderings in regard to your favorite characters and soaps have been plaguing you of late? Let us know on the Turtle-Run.com message boards.

Turtle-Run was on hand at the Days of our Lives stage at NBC Studios in Burbank on Friday, June 21, 2002 for a cake cutting ceremony that celebrated Days of our Lives' winning ratings streak.

Turtle-Run's "Top of the Week" for next Monday, July 1, 2002 will take you inside the cake cutting presentation that celebrated this auspicious achievement. Executive Producer Ken Corday, Co-Executive Producer Steve Wyman and the rest of the Days of our Lives producers and cast were in attendance, as well as Head Writers Paula Cwikly and Peter Brash. We asked you what you wanted to know, and we got answers to as many of your questions as time permitted. Next week, you're invited to see what the head haunchos of Days had to say back to you! Stay tuned!

Guiding Light Celebrates 50 Years on the Air!

Guiding Light celebrates its 50th television anniversary, officially on Sunday, June 30, 2002.

In conjunction with this historic milestone, the show will unveil a new show opening on Monday, June 24, 2002.

Port Charles is "Torn"

On Monday, July 1, 2002 Port Charles premieres its eighth book, "Torn." The 13-week story-arc airs through September.

As "Torn" begins, the stage is set for battle when Alison sets her sights on recapturing her lost romance with Rafe. However, Livvie is just as bent on keeping Rafe to herself -- at all costs -- and gets some unexpected help along the way. With the stakes so high, Ed and James continue to keep a close watch from beyond, while Lucy weighs in on the situation closer to home. In the meantime, eligible bachelors Ian, Chris, Jamal and Jack soon find themselves asking questions when a mysterious new force arrives in town. Will they somehow find time for romance? Speaking of romance, will Kate be the lucky beneficiary of one of Port Charles' many eligible men? Finally, with things not looking up for Frank, Karen appears willing to open up to Ricky. However, when another surprise visitor arrives in Port Charles, Ricky is unexpectedly thrown for a loop.

Pop artisit Natalie Imbruglia's 1998 chart-topping single, "Torn," serves as the title theme song for the book and sets the tone for the on-air promotional campaign, which kicks off this week. In addition, a special summer marking campaign will be featured in Seventeen Magazine and Teen People, as well as in pre-show slides at movie theaters in select cities across the country.

NBC Soap Stars Rocked Fan Fair 2002 -- Non-Stop Excitement, Music and Fun

The stars of NBC Daytime earned a standing ovation, on more than one occasion, for their encore appearance at the 31st Annual CMA Fan Fair 2002. The festival made an impressive return to Downtown Nashville, June 13-16, with an aggregate attendance of more than 126,500 - slightly ahead of last year's record-breaking mark - making it the biggest crowd in Fan Fair's 31-year history.

"I'm happy to say it was a big success," said Ed Benson, Executive Director of CMA. "Thanks to the breadth of activities, music and venues Fan Fair has evolved into an extraordinary, world-class musical event."

Once again our stars were overwhelmed with the warmth and enthusiasm of the fans and country music stars in attendance at Fan Fair, said Sheraton Kalouria, Sr. Vice President, NBC Daytime Programs. "We look forward to building on our relationship with the CMA and creating a bigger and better experience for the fans next year."

More than 40 artists participated in the star-studded nightly concerts at Adelphia Coliseum during the four days. Even the traditional finale fireworks displays were bigger and better for 2002. Many of Country Music's hottest stars took to the Adelphia stage, including Trace Adkins, Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Billy Ray Cyrus, Diamond Rio, Alan Jackson, George Jones, Toby Keith, Martina McBride, Jo Dee Messina, John Michael Montgomery, Rascal Flatts, Earl Scruggs, SHeDAISY, Cyndi Thomson, keith urban and Lee Ann Womack. One of the most popular elements of the nightly concerts at Fan Fair continued to be the photo line, where fans get close to the stage for shots of their favorite artists.

NBC Daytime stars Matt Cedeno, Justin Carroll, Melissa Reeves and Bruce Michael Hall took the stage to participate and banter back and forth with the fan as The Greased Lightning Riverfront Park Stages. The Stages bustled with a rich array of artists from both major and independent labels, showcased a broad range of musical influences and styles from classic to alternative Country, and proved to be one of Fan Fair's favorite new venues.

Plus, a total of 445 artists appeared in the air-conditioned Exhibit Hall at the Nashville Convention Center for the autograph and photo sessions Thursday through Sunday. Fan attendance in the Hall exceeded 46,000, up 21% from last year when the Hall was only open three days. Fans began lining up at the Exhibit Hall as early as 2 AM in hopes of meeting their favorite Country stars.

A big plus to the event was the return of the stars of NBC's daytime dramas "Days of Our Lives" and "Passions." The enthusiastic stars hosted the Sony show at Adelphia Coliseum Friday night, signed autographs in the Exhibit Hall and hosted a sold-out Fan Fair After Hours event at the Wildhorse Saloon. read scripts with fans and performed with Country artists Michael Peterson and keith urban -- proving that acting isn't their only talent.

Melissa Reeves ("Jennifer" on "Days of our Lives") and James Hyde ("Sam" on "Days") kicked off the show by introducing Kyle Lowder ("Brady" on "Days"), who got the fans to sing along as he performed Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places." Other soaps stars showing off their singing talents included Lindsay Korman ("Theresa" on "Passions"), who performed "How Do I Live," and Peter Reckell ("Bo" on "Days"), who performed a song from his new album.

Other stars participating in Fan Fair included Matthew Ashford ("Jack" on "Days"), Matt Cedeno ("Brandon" on "Days"), Arianne Zucker ("Nicole" on "Days"), Andrea Evans ("Rebecca" on "Passions"), Christopher Douglas ("Brian" on "Passions"), Justin Carroll ("David" on Passions"), and Bruce Michael Hall ("Reese" on "Passions").

With a host of other activities, including after hours partying at local night spots, activities for children and more, Fan Fair 2002 was a rip-roarin', foot stompin', happy hollerin' success. Tickets for Fan Fair(R) 2003 are on sale for a limited time at 2002 prices.

Fan Fair 2003 takes place Thursday through Sunday, June 5-8, 2003 in Downtown Nashville and includes all the elements that made Fan Fair 2002 a rousing success. Tickets packages vary in price are available by calling toll-free (866) FAN-FAIR and through Ticketmaster outlets, including Internet and charge-by-phone.
