"We Don’t Comment on..."

Hi Suds Buds:

Whenever there is a rumor around about an actor leaving the show, or a character being written out, networks have this standard, pat response when you contact them for confirmation.  It’s usually one of two phrases:

1) “We don’t confirm rumors.”
2) “We don’t comment on contract status.”

What intrigues me most about the above is that usually, the rumors are true and the characters are being written out and/or the actor is leaving -- either of their own volition or because of storyline dictates.

I really wonder why networks just don’t cop to it and say “yeah” or “nay.”  We all find out about it when the character is no longer airing, anyway.  Duh!  Why must networks play this cat-and-mouse game of “no comment?”

Last week rumors ran rampant that several characters from Days of our Lives will soon be history.   Soapdom’s DOOL message boards is buzzing with who’s set to go and when.  When I contacted NBC Daytime for confirmation or denial, all they said was (and say it with me), “We don’t comment on the status of our actors.”

Guess what, guys. That leads me to believe that the rumors are true.  I am not confirming it, but it’s certainly a possibility.  Stay tuned.

Laurence Lau (Sam, OLTL; ex Greg, AMC)Speaking of actors leaving shows, Laurence Lau (Sam, OLTL) is “rumored” to soon be off the canvas in Llanview. Fans are petitioning to keep him in the ABC Daytime family, by bringing him back as his former character, Greg on All My Children.  If you’re a Larry Lau fan and would like to see him reprise the role of Greg on AMC, check out this petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/larrylau/
