Dear Suds Buds:
Boy do I have egg on my face. Over easy, egg. With rye toast and two strips of very well done bacon. Top that off with a little more egg. And why? Because I am still working on the story that I know AMC's Ryan and Gillian fans are chomping at the bit to read about. However, I am waiting for the one more piece of the puzzle. I plan to track down that last, elusive part of the story this coming week. Whether I succeed in that pursuit or not, I will run the story in the next Top of the Week, so AMC fans please stay tuned!
Simon on E!
"As the World Turn's" Paul Leyden (Simon) will host E! Entertainment Television's F.Y.E. from Camp Jeep in Charlottesville, VA on Tuesday, August 21, 2001. All you Simon fans be sure to tune in to E! at 9 PM EST.
Name the Baby
Y'know several weeks ago, there was some fun business on "All My Children" in regard to naming Hayley and Mateo's baby. The writers included dialog that referred to the real-life baby name of Kelly Ripa's (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos' (Mateo) real-life baby, Lola. We at Turtle-Run got a giggle out of the art imitating life scenario, and I remember mentioning to everyone that "ABC is gonna introduce a Name the Baby" contest at abc.com. I just love it when I'm right! LOL
Beginning Monday, August 27, 2001 through Friday, August 31, 2001, you will have the opportunity to cast your vote to name Hayley and Mateo's baby on abc.com. Life for Hayley and Mateo has had its ups and downs, yet, through their trials and tribulations, their love for each other has remained strong and true. With the anticipation of the birth of their first child, their happiness and love can only grow stronger. At this joyful time, only one problem exists. The expectant couple continues to struggle with choosing the perfect name for their new baby!
That's where YOU come into the picture. :o)
"Working alongside our partners at abc.com, we have created a unique opportunity for the fans of 'All My Children' to actively participate in the baby naming, which is certain to enhance their viewing pleasure," stated Regina DiMartino, senior vice president, Marketing and Promotion, ABC Daytime.
"All My Children" fans will have the chance to vote for their favorite baby name by logging on between Monday, August 27 and Friday, August 31. A list of baby names will be provided, and fans can cast their votes. The winning name will be announced on air in late September, when Hayley and Mateo finally select the name for the newest addition to their family.
Carl T. Evans at As the World Turns
Carl T. Evans joined the cast of "As the World Turns" on August 9, 2001 in the role of Molly's (Lesli Kay) ex-convict former flame, Nick Scudder. Scudder arrives in Oakdale to turn over a new leaf.
"Carl Evans brings an intriguing presence to the role of Nick Scudder," said ATWT EP, Chris Goutman. "Nick's sudden arrival in town naturally unsettles Molly, who has worked hard to put her past behind her."
A native of NYC, Evans received an acting scholarship from Adelphi University (Hey! My husband graduated from Adelphi ;o) on Long Island, and went on to study with Uta Hagen and Howard Fine, two of the acting profession's finest coaches. No stranger to daytime television, Evans previously appeared on "Guiding Light" for two years. He has guest starred in the television series "Sex and the City" and "Beverly Hills 90210." His theater credits include "Grease" and "The Odd Couple." He also wrote, directed, produced and starred in the feature film, "24-7." He has appeared in "Above and Beyond," "Masquerade," and "Leonardo."
Now that Nick Scudder is back in town it will be interesting to see if he really does turn over that new leaf, and just how is Molly going to take his return? Stay tuned to "As the World Turns" to find out!

Disneyland's California Adventure's ABC Soap Opera Bistro Hosts GH Stars
By Jessica Radloff
Hey soap fans!! How would you like to spend a day at Disney's newest California theme park AND meet some of your favorite General Hospital and Port Charles stars? Well, it's not a case of California dreamin'. It's the real thing! Every Friday through the end of August, four different stars will greet guests, sign autographs and maybe even serve up some One Leaf to Live Greens with a Hunky Rib Eye Steak sandwich! Or maybe some Plot Twist Pasta, or Asa's Salmon Salad? Talk about having your cake and eating it too! The Soap Opera Bistro at Disney's California Adventure is themed to match the sets and ambience of all four ABC shows. Servers pose as the characters from your favorite daytime drama and even provide some sneak previews as well! Turtle-Run spent last Friday checking out the main attractions at Disney's soap-themed restaurant in Anaheim, California!
Appearing at the inaugural event of Star-Studed Fridays on August 3, 2001 was General Hospital's Chad Brannon (Zander), Jensen Buchanan (Melissa), Jacob Young (Lucky) and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth). Enthusiastic fans started lining up a couple of hours before the stars even arrived! Leigh Rider of Huntington Beach, Calif. brought her 10-year-old daughter to meet Lucky and Elizabeth. A fan of GH for over 20 years, Leigh is thrilled that soaps have now been passed along to her daughter.
The family affair didn't end there as Turtle-Run caught up with 15-year-old Robert Western of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Robert and his mother, Debbie, postponed their trip home by a day just to meet the stars of their favorite soap. Robert said that the only reason he couldn't wait for school to start was to tell all his classmates the cool stories about meeting the actors. "Yeah, I'll be like, 'I have cool pictures! Haha!'" Robert proclaimed.
Shortly thereafter, screaming fans signaled the approach of Chad Brannon and Jensen Buchanan to sign autographs. After meeting Chad, Donna Lavallivre from Anaheim couldn't wait to gush about the dashing young actor. "Oh, he's awesome. He's so good-looking, so sweet. What a gentleman! I asked him if he was going to get back together with Emily, and he said that he wasn't sure at this point. But oh my God, he's just so good-looking!" she said. In fact, Lavallivre thought Brannon was so good-looking and nice that she stood back in line and waited to meet him again! It was obvious that he was genuinely touched by her support.
While Brannon and Buchanan greeted the fans, Jacob Young and Rebecca Herbst arrived at the back of the restaurant to chat with various reporters before taking to the fans. A noticeably pregnant Herbst (who is expecting with husband and former GH co-star Michael Saucedo) glowed as she and Young spoke to Disney's radio broadcast booth. Before facing the hordes of gleeful fans, Young graciously took a few minutes to speak to Turtle-Run!
It was Jacob's first time at Disney's California Adventure and he couldn't have been more excited to meet all the fans. "It's just so reassuring, once again, that what we do is really important to these people's lives and it makes me excited to be working on such a popular show," he said. Speaking of working on a popular show, Jacob is involved in a pretty popular storyline. So, was the dashing young actor willing to drop a few hints regarding his fall storyline? As he carefully decided what words to use (you gotta keep the fans in suspense!), Jacob exclaimed, "the brainwash is going to be more intense in the next few weeks, (you gotta stay tuned)!" But if he had to pick a fantasy storyline for Lucky, Jacob would like to see a younger man/older woman storyline play out! Until that older woman comes strolling into town, Lucky has his hands full with true love Elizabeth. But now that Elizabeth's portrayer, Rebecca Herbst, is pregnant, how does that leave their future? "Everything's going great, really. They're doing such a good job with keeping it concealed and it's not even gotten in the way (of the storyline)," Jacob explained. And with that, Jacob was whisked away to meet the fans!
While Jacob and Elizabeth signed autographs, Turtle-Run caught up with a couple of the waiters at the Soap Opera Bistro to get their take on the day. Janel Clemmons of Irvine, Calif., plays a doctor from General Hospital at the restaurant. "It's really fun to do lines with food and stuff, like, 'how are you feeling, can I get you some fluids, and would you like some greens for nourishment,'" she said. As far as the best part to working at the bistro, Janel exclaimed, "This is a place where I can act and have fun while still serving and being part of the ABC soaps. I'm a big ABC soap fan!"
Asa Buchanan. . . excuse me, waiter Mark Botieff of San Diego County, was absolutely thrilled with the way the day's events were progressing. "Energy. . .it's just incredible. . our staff, the management--uh, I mean, the producers, went crazy!" he said. Both Janel and Mark agreed that the highlight of their experience is having various cast members drop by unexpectedly on their own time. Coltin Scott (Nikolas) and Marisa Ramirez (Gia) are just a few of the actors who have shown up with their families to enjoy the restaurant's American cuisine and atmosphere.
But you don't have to wait for a chance meeting with the stars just to tell them how much you enjoy their work! Coltin Scott, Kiko Ellsworth (Jamal), Wally Kurth (Ned), Tamara Braun (Carly), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis), Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie), Thorsten Kaye (Ian), Brian Presley (Jack) and Marisa Ramirez (Gia) are just a few of the actors who will be making appearances each Friday until the end of August. So order some Plot-Twist Pasta and serve up a healthy dosage of adoration for your favorite stars! They'll be waiting for it! Bon Appetit!
*For the schedule of appearances for the rest of August, see Seeing Stars below for GH and PC.*
