Dear Suds Buds,

Let’s talk turkey.  Me to you.  Here it is 9:30 PM on Monday evening, and I am just getting to write this Top of the Week.  Not quite the very top of the week, but close.  And there is still The Soapdom News to write, and I still haven’t completed producing the Cybby Awards results.  Did work on them over the weekend, but didn't get to finish.  Really not enough hours in the day.

I am not complaining, mind you.  Just stating a few facts.  Managing Soapdom and and/or editing and producing all the content is quite a lot of work.  One of the things that slows down the workflow is the internet connection we currently have.  It’s a DSL broadband, but I could swear that since we first got this service, our speeds have greatly decreased. It can take up to two minutes for one photo to upload to our server.  Two minutes doesn’t sound like much, but multiply that by the tons of photos and articles we publish each week, plus all the updating of the columns, and suddenly you’re talking hours of time.

So, I am investing in a faster DSL connection. It will cost more money, but I am hopeful it will save more time.   It is set to go live this week. I will let you know if that expedites things a little.

Now on to the soap stuff!  LOL

SOAPnet is about to cast and produce a new reality series called I Wanna Be a Soap Star.  Oftentimes members contact me asking “how can I break into soaps?”  Now that SOAPnet is doing this new reality series, set to air in October, I’d say go for it!  And pronto.  The winning contestant gets a 13-week contract on General Hospital.  Not too shabby.  They are casting now, so don’t wait.

I Wanna Be a Soap Star

Speaking of acting in soaps, several years ago, I wrote a feature piece for Soap Opera Weekly called “How to Make it in Soaps.”  I took a class taught by the Young and the Restless’ Jerry Douglas (John), and a photographer from Weekly followed me around as I learned the ropes of acting for soaps.

At that same time, I also wrote an article for Weekly called “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Audition.”  In this article, many of the major stars of that year (it was 1999), who are still top of their game today, shared stories of how they got their first break in soaps.

I recommend all of these articles for anyone wanting to learn more about their favorite stars and their road to fame; and especially for anyone considering a career as an actor of soaps.  Break a leg!

Til the top of next week,
