Hi Suds Buds:

Vanessa Marcil (ex Brenda) has been a fan favorite since she first appeared on General Hospital in 1992.  I have always cheered her on and followed her career, but not because I loved her as Brenda (which I do), but because I was there before it started!

In the early 90’s, my husband and I relocated from NYC to LA to pursue our careers in the entertainment industry.  I had been a location manager in New York on projects like Law & Order.  But my real love was writing and producing.  Where better to do that, than in L.A?  As I focused my energies on getting a writing and producing career off the ground, my husband, who had become the Location Manager of the family, landed his first L.A. gig. It was a non-union short film titled “Nana to the Beach.”

Vanessa Marcil (ex Brenda, GH)“Nana to the Beach” was written and directed by a Los Angeles entrepreneur named Aleks Horvat.   It was a poignant story of a young boy whose grandmother – a mentor –  passes away.  In a supporting role, a young girl sparks notions of romance in the young boy’s mind, reinforcing the notion that life goes on.  That young girl was played by Vanessa Marcil. It was her very first acting job.

Prior to “Nana to the Beach” going into production, the director and producer held a pool party to kick off the project.  I met Vanessa that day.  She struck me as ravishingly beautiful, very petite, and a tad shy.

“Nana to the Beach” didn’t get much of anywhere as far as film projects go.  It may have played on a cable network, but I don’t remember which one.  Shortly after “Nana to the Beach” wrapped production, Vanessa Marcil landed the contract role of Brenda on General Hospital and her acting career was on the move.

When I  saw Vanessa recently I asked her about “Nana to the Beach” and if she remembered working on the short film!  Read her candid comments and fond memories of the project in our mini feature story on Vanessa Marcil.
