Dear Suds Buds,

This past Saturday, June 5, 2004 was monumental.  It will go down in history as the day  former President Ronald Reagan passed away.  Sequestered away from public view for many years due to his progressive Alzheimer’s disease, the man was still a force in life, sharing his affliction with the American public upon its onset.  What courage, I thought at the time.

Back in NYC, before I relocated to California, Reagan’s adopted state, I had the privilege of meeting Ronald Reagan. I spoke with him for several moments.  Got to shake his hand.  The experience was one I have never forgotten and will cherish forever. He was soft spoken, yet definitive. He was a strapping figure.  Tall, dark and handsome, even at his age, and most certainly commanded a presence.  It was easy to see how he took charge of the Presidency.   With his experience in both acting and broadcasting, he had a way with words and could draw the listener in with ease.   Many times his speeches brought me to tears.  Powerful speaker.  Powerful man.   However, I gotta admit -- even I have been known to do a take-off of his frequently imitated, “well!”

So here is the thing.  Not more than a mile from where I live, his body lies at the funeral home waiting for the motorcade to take it to the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA.  I am headed to the funeral home in a few moments to pay my respects on this historic day.  To former president Ronald Reagan, may you rest in peace.

For Days of our Lives fans, the weekend was also very special.  It was the Days (now unofficial) fan weekend.  There were tons of activities, including the Brady Boys Dinner, hosted by Peter Reckell (Bo) and Jason Cook (Shawn), Deidre Hall’s Wake of Remembrance, James Reynolds’ (Abe) Celebrity Basketball Game and more!  We’ll have a Fan Tale for you on the activities of the weekend coming soon, so stay tuned!

Oh, and here’s an Inside the Bubble bit from the Basketball Game – Eric Winter, who played hard, got an elbow in the face during the game. After the game, he held ice to his lip and cheek.  Let’s hope that will do the trick.  I’d hate for that gorgeous puss to get swollen.  Luckily, it was just a minor injury Eric told me.  Eric was fine.

As Days fans enjoyed getting to meet their faves on the west coast, the annual celebrity softball game took place on the east coast.  Did any of you attend?  If you did and want to share your story, contact me via the form on the Soapdom contact page. Hope to hear from you!

Off to pay my respects to the 40th President of the United States.

Til the top of next week,
