Subscribe Now for 6 Months, and We'll Donate Two Bucks to Power of Love
Hi Suds Buds: Soapdom has been running a promo since February 10, 2003. It’s a campaign to show our support for the American Heart Association’s “Power of Love” Campaign. Jackie Zeman is the spokesperson for this campaign, and after we interviewed her, we were so inspired by her passion for this cause, we felt sure that you would be, too.
Zeman couldn’t have agreed more, saying that soap fans are the best. But with only 4 days left to go in the campaign (The Power of Love ends February 28, 2003), Soapdom has only raised $12.00. That means only 6 of you have subscribed for six months at $19.95, for which $2.00 of your subscription fee will be donated to the Power of Love.
If any of you have been vacillating about taking out a Soapdom subscription, now couldn’t be a better time. Won’t you help us help Jackie to raise awareness and monies for this very worth cause? One out of every two women will die of heart disease. The Power of Love campaign will help save lives.
Thank you to those who have already subscribed this month, and thanks in advance to everyone who intends to subscribe by February 28, 2003. Your hearts are big and may they live long, strong healthy lives.
Speaking of Jackie Zeman, our exclusive interview with her will be online sometime this week.
Now on to the soaps! My husband and I are engrossed in doing our taxes for 2002. Our dining room table is topped with piles of financial records, monthly bills and expenses pay stubs, W-2’s, the works. Waffles and Slinky, our two cats, are having tons of fun disrupting the piles of paperwork. Glad they are enjoying this. But for my husband and me, doing taxes is sheer drudgery!
Yesterday, we started organizing everything for our accountants. I mean, we don’t even do the actual return, our CPA’s do that. Still, it will take us a good two full days to prepare all the paperwork for the accountants, and that’s after being fairly organized all year long!
I had to laugh when watching an episode of NBC’s mid season replacement “Mr. Sterling,” a show about a junior Senator from California. It stars Josh Brolin. He was on the finance committee. He was doing his own taxes. It took him days to complete his own return. He challenged the other finance committee members to take on the task of doing their own taxes. It was not met with a positive response. Ironic, especially as they were discussing ways to simplify the tax codes.
The point of all this being -- we never see our favorite soap characters doing their taxes! Not even on the corporate level. Wouldn’t it be fun to see a character like Adam Chandler (AMC) or Victor Newman (Y&R) meeting with their corporate accountants to file taxes and somehow – they are accused of tax fraud? Ohhhh. I see a very intriguing storyline develop around that.
What about showing one of the younger characters, like Bridget on B&B, doing her own tax return. Or even a younger character like Maggie on AMC doing hers? Not only will it tie soapdom into real life, especially at this time of year, but it will help instruct our own younger family members about the given of U.S. existence that is income tax.
Like they say (whoever they are), there are only two things in life you can depend on. Death and Taxes. In soapdom, I’d have to make that six things. Death, coming back from death, evil twins, amnesia, SORAS (soap opera rapid aging syndrome) and taxes!
Just my humble opinion. Share yours on the Criticize the Critic message board at Soapdom.com!
