Dear Suds Buds,
It’s romance, intrigue and mayhem on the soaps this week, starting with some very heartfelt singing on One Life to Live.  Characters express their feelings about their special loved ones in song.  Passions and General Hospital are promoting the National Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” heart disease movement.  Katie and Henry get married on As the World Turns, Neil clings to life on Young and the Restless as friends and family bond, and Dinah and Jonathan take their relationship to new levels on Guiding Light.

It kinda rekindles that familiar phrase “Love in the Afternoon.”  Love in the Afternoon was an actual promotional campaign developed by ABC Daytime back in the hey day of Luke and Laura and Jenny and Craig, if I’m not mistaken, and the phrase has stuck –becoming synonymous with soaps.  But get this!  Soapdom’s very own Merle Goldberg (who gives us her great dishy recount of the AMC 35th Anniversary Broadway Show Rainbow Room after party this week) was actually instrumental in creating that campaign for ABC Daytime.  How cool is that?  Not too shabby and good going, Merle!

Speaking of Love in the Afternoon, would you like to see more of it these days on your favorite soap? I don’t know about you but all the kidnappings, mob ties, murders and mayhem get “one note” after a while.  I could go for a little more love and romance taking front burner. How about you?
