Stars pay tribute, Passions' many noms, Y&R Feuds & more

Dear Suds Buds:

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 are unspeakable. Most television and feature film productions shut down for the day, both in New York and Los Angeles.  Many, if not all the soaps suspended production on what I have dubbed:  "Tragic Tuesday."   But in the spirit of America and "The show must go on," they were back in production the next day.  Back in production, yes. But, not without doing something in some way to remember the lives of those lost.

On the sets of "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light," a moment of silence is being observed each day.  Nadjia Bjorlin (Chloe) and Kyle Lowder (Brady) led stars of "Days of our Lives" as they joined together to sing "God Bless America."  "Young & the Restless" stars, Peter Bergman (Jack), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), Shemar Moore (Malcolm) and Alexia Robinson (Alex) taped promos for the American Red Cross to lend their support to the victims and families of the World Trade Center tragedy.  The Red Cross promos began airing on Wednesday, September 19, 2001.  ABC soaps underwent some re-working. "Port Charles" had scenes about some terrorist-type activities that were cut from the show. If memory serves, Angela Shapiro, president ABC daytime, mentioned on a segment of 20/20 that almost 100 episodes had to be tweaked as a result. A monumental task for ABC daytime, yet one they have undertaken from the heart.

Last week we promised to confirm news of Martha Byrne's (Molly/Rose, ATWT) husband, Michael MacMahon. We are delighted to report that MacMahon, a New York City police officer, is alive and well.  The spokesperson for Proctor & Gamble let us know that "...thank God, he is not a victim of the collapse."

Nancy Lee Grahn to the Mike for Linda Dano

Turtle-Run reported that Linda Dano (Rae, OLTL) would host the Women in Cable and Telecommunications LEA Awards that took place Friday, September 21, 2001 in Los Angeles. However, Dano was unable to attend due to international air-travel restrictions.  Nancy Grahn (Alexis, GH), who lives in southern California, hosted the event in Dano's place.

The Governor's Committee for Employment of Disabled Persons is a special project of the State Employment Development Department. The 19th Annual Media Access Awards will take place on Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at Universal Studios, Hollywood at The Grill.  Laura San Giacomo and Ricardo Montalban are co-chairs of this event and Gerald McRaney will be hosting the evening.  For more information on The Media Access Awards or purchasing tickets to this year's event, call (800) 695-0350.

All My Children's Walt Willey opens up about being a stand up comic

All My Children may be off the air, but one of it’s most, charming, debonair, drop dead gorgeous, and hilariously funny stars, none other than Walt Willey (Jackson Montgomery), is out on the road again doing his stand up comedy act.  On Sunday, May 18, Willey hits the Detroit area, starring for one night at Comedy Castle in Royal Oak, MI.

Soapdom’s Laurie Bedigian caught up with Willey over the weekend via email and asked a few questions about his comedic roots, his love of acting, his comedy heroes and more.  Plus, he shares a bit about what the audience can expect on show night.  All I can say is the subject of sex may be involved.  Say what?  I’ll let Willey clear that one up for you.  LOL
