I do! again, Passions' best seller, ATWT star trades lives & more

Hi Suds Buds,

On One Life to Live, the characters of Todd and Blair are about to remarry. Last week there was a scene where Blair gives Todd a little gift. It was a gold balloon and was offered as a remembrance of their first wedding. After hearing Blair explain the sentiment behind the trinket, I was hit by the number of times soap characters marry, divorce, marry again, divorce again and then marry again, etc. It is a situation that is par for the course on soaps. Can you imagine having a tiff with your husband or wife and immediately getting a divorce, then a year later agree to marry them again? I know there are situations in real life where couples divorce and then remarry. But it is far and few between. On soaps, it is the norm. Take Young & the Restless. I can't even begin to count how many times Nikki and Victor have tied the knot. On All My Children there is Adam who has been married to Erica twice. There is Erica who has also been married to Dimitri twice. There is Hayley and Mateo who have been married twice. There is Liza and Adam about to marry for the second time. There is Tad and Dixie who are married for a third time, and are once again experiencing marital difficulty. But is divorce the answer? Perhaps, the writers of soaps should consider creating a character who is a marriage counselor! Maybe before couples run off all hot and bothered dumping a spouse in favor of a fling of the sweeps, they should stay married, have a few therapy sessions, and try to work out their problems. Then, one of them could fall in love with the counselor and dump the spouse anyway!

Breaking News!

Hidden Passions Hits One Out of the Ballpark!

Congratulations are in order. On sale less than two weeks, Hidden Passions: Secrets From the Dairies of Tabitha Lenox, is a runaway bestseller, thanks in large part to the unprecedented marketing collaboration between HarperCollins, NBC Daytime and the support of the fans of the show! The book debuted on the Wall Street Journal Bestseller List last week at #6, USA Today at #39, and on February 11, 2001 it landed the #8 spot on the New York Times Bestseller List!

Take a look "Inside the Bubble" to see how it all began.

The idea was born: Let's be bold. Let's be unique. Let's sell a book by having its publication be part of a major storyline on a popular daytime soap. Beginning with an appearance on Passions by HarperCollins President and CEO, Jane Friedman on November 13, 2001, NBC has been steadily building anticipation for the book. Every juncture of the publishing process has been covered in the plot of the show, ranging from captivating the attentions of publishing moguls and negotiating a lucrative advance, to winning spirited editorial discussions. First of all, the book was written by Tabitha Lenox, a major Passions character. Then, fusing television and the real world, HarperCollins was actually publishing Hidden Passions at the same time that NBC was unfolding a storyline about publishing on Passions. The soap opera even built a Waldenbooks on the set. For three episodes, the fictitious city of Harmony featured the new book as a bestseller at their local Waldenbooks. Then, on January 23, 2001, just as the book was hitting real-life bookstores, Passions featured characters in the bookstore talking about how scandalous and sensational the book was! Talk about a tie-in. :o) Waldenbooks now reports that in its real life bookstores, Hidden Passions is flying off the shelves.

According to Hope Innelli, Vice President/Editorial Director for HarperEntertainment, "The creative process has never been more fun and collaborative. NBC and Passions creator/headwriter Jim Reilly were open to every suggestion we had, came to the table with tons of ideas of their own, and made every one of them happen. True to the story, it is as if some magical spell has been cast over us all! "

Port Charles to Support RAINN

On Tuesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 15, Port Charles will air a special public service announcement at the end of the show with information for RAINN, The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, an organization with more than 850 rape crisis centers nationwide. While researching the rape storyline for Arinana Thornhart, played by Opal Anchel, the Los Angeles Commission on Assault Against Women, a local affiliate of RAINN, provided the show with a rape treatment counselor, and all research necessary to appropriately portray the reality, both in exposition and performance of rape. Founded in 1994, RAINN provides survivors with a free, confidential national rape crisis center. Over the years the organization has been financially supported by Atlantic Records, the Warner Music Group, the Lillith Fair, Calvin Klein, and many more. The Los Angeles Commission on Assault Against Women is a non-profit multicultural feminist organization, community-based volunteer organization. Their goal is to see that survivors are guaranteed the sensitive and appropriate services they deserve; that community awareness is increased; that violence against women is decreased, and that no women be forced to face the crisis of physical and/or sexual abuse alone. With this storyline, the writers and producers of Port Charles hope to raise awareness of violence against women, and provide valuable information to the viewers.

Letters to the Editor

"On General Hospital today, 1/30/01, there was a lady from Roy's past that Bobbie went to see. She looks just like the lady that played "Vicki" on As The World Turns -- the story line with Jake (that used to be on Another World). Was that her and is she going to have a recurring role on General Hospital?" edlawson

The answer to that is a little complicated. First of all, you are very observant. The actress who played Melissa, the woman from Roy's past on GH, is indeed the same actress playing the role of Vicki's ghost on As the World Turns. It is the wonderful and talented soap veteran, Jensen Buchanan. Apparently, GH signed Ms. Buchanan while she was still appearing on ATWT and under an exclusive contract with them. The TPTB at Proctor & Gamble were not fond of the gear switch, and according to an article from Inside.com posted February 4, 2001, Televest, the company that oversees soap opera production for P&G was filing a lawsuit against ABC, GH, Ms. Buchanan and her agents for breech of contract. TV Guide Online reported on Friday, February 9, 2001 that according to the suit, Buchanan repeatedly appeared on GH while she was still under exclusive contract with Televest, despite Televest's pleas that her airings cease. ABC has responded by casting another actress in the role. A Televest rep declined to comment on the suit. Special thanks to JudgeJud for alerting me to, and following up on, this story!

"I was interested in CBS soaps like Young & the Restless and Bold & the Beautiful spoilers and previews. Do you know any? Or website?" Fidella2

TRO is continuing to work on providing more information on both those shows, including Sneak Peeks and show recaps. Please be patient with us as we make progress in that regard. In the meantime, visit TRO's Links page and click on the Y&R News. They are a Purple Turtle Award-winning website that does great spoilers and breaking real-life news, while taking an irreverent look at the denizens of Genoa City! They also cover B&B.

"I was wondering where you get your spoilers because I am dying to know more about the Phillip/Chloe relationship. Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! P.S. Great Page. rosepetals304

We get our information straight from the horse's mouth. We work with the networks to promote their shows and stars. They provide us with advance storyline information, which we then present to you! Far as Chloe and Phillip (DOOL) is concerned, I think they make an adorable couple. We will just have to tune in and see how their romance develops.

"I just want to know what will happen in the future between Lily and Simon and if and when Katie's dirty lies about her pregnancy are uncovered. Will Lily and Simon ever be together?" thelaw15

It looks like things with Lily and Simon (ATWT) will cool for a while. Lily probably leaves town, and Simon will try to get to the bottom of Katie's pregnancy. Whether Lily and Simon do end up together is something we will just have to be patient about, and wait to see what happens. But keeping our fingers crossed probably wouldn't hurt! LOL

"I was just visitng your website and was wondering if you could possibly give me some information as to when the nominations for the 2001 Daytime Emmy's will be released on the internet and where I can find them. Also would you be able to tell me the date that they will be aired on. I thank you in advance for reading my letter." Dman

The nominations will be announced either March 14 or 15, 2001. The Daytime Emmy's will air, May 18, 2001 on ABC. For more information, click http://www.emmys.tv/awards/dayschedule.htm

"Are there going to be any events for All My Children in South Florida? Will any characters from AMC appear somewhere?" lovelychloe

You are in luck! There will be a bunch of AMC stars appearing in your neighborhood. Check below in the Seeing Stars section for the latest low down! (Thanks to EJ, aka SEAHAAS, our new contributor for AMC appearance information.)

"Your web site used to be the best out there for soap opera updates, but lately it's been awful. The daily episode guides are never updated and the sneak peeks take forever to show up. I hope it changes soon." SLA67101

Yes, even Turtle Run does experience technical difficulties now and again, preventing us from getting content uploaded as usual. Technology is grand, except when it isn't. Barring unforeseen difficulties of the technical sort, we do attempt to stick to our schedule of new Sneak Peeks every Thursday, new Sneakier Peeks every Monday, new Top of the Week every Monday, and episode guides updated daily. If you are experiencing a lag in seeing the new content, try refreshing or reloading your browser. Hope that helps!

"I saw your site "Turtle Run.com" tonight for the first time. It is wonderful. I got there from a link on Dustin's Days of Our Lives site. I can promise you that I will spread the word to my friends and will be back again soon myself. I just wanted to compliment you on such a creative and informational site. It is FUN!" BbambiMom

Thank you so much for your kind words and support of our site. Fun is our middle name. LOL Dustin is the master of DOOL and my DOOL web hero! Thank you again for your wonderful comments about Turtle Run, and I hope to see you and your cyberfriends here at TRO on a frequent basis!

Past Blast

50 Years of Days of our Lives ~ 50 Years of an iconic themeā€¦

When Bobby Hart and his songwriting partner, Tommy Boyce, were commissioned to write the theme song for a brand new soap opera over 50 years ago, they had no idea whatsoever that it would still be running on air, five days a week, twice a day for 50 years.

"I am blessed," Hart revealed to Soapdom, being grateful for its longevity and Days' Executive Producer, Ken Corday, keeping the Boyce & Hart theme song airing all these years.

You may not recognize the name of the songwriting team of Boyce & Hart, but odds are, if you or your parents were around in the mid to late 1960s, you are more than familiar with their music.
