Dear Suds Buzz,

August is a big month for fan events.  Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the 5th Annual Passions fan brunch in Los Angeles.  One of the most organized and fun of all soap events, it was held this year in a new venue at the House of Blues in Hollywood. Passions fans came from all over the country to mingle and catch a photo with their favorite Passions stars. Some fans, I learned, have attended all five years!

And this one was a biggy for Passions.  We celebrated the show’s 5th Anniversary.  Stars recounted their memories of their first day of work!  I’ll have more on the Passions fan lunch, including exclusive photos, tons of buzz and a sneak peak at what’s in store this September in Harmony coming soon.

While on the east coast, All My Children and One Life to Live fans are gearing up for the fan events for those shows, and back in Los Angeles, General Hospital fans will soon be treated to the GH fan weekend, the grand daddy of all individual soap fan events, in my humble opinion.   As the World Turns had a great event last April, and this October, Guiding Light’s fan club hosts an event.

If you have never attended a fan event for your show, I highly recommend that you consider it.  Not only is a fun place to meet other fans of your favorite soap, but the actors are so approachable and accessible.  Take Rodney van Johnson (TC, Passions) at the Passions brunch last Saturday, for example. He sat down and had lunch with three Passions fans from San Francisco!  Right at the same table!  Can you imagine having lunch with your favorite soap star?

Soapdom will have a bunch of coverage on these upcoming fan extravaganzas, so stay tuned!  In the meantime, if you’ve ever attended a fan gathering and want to share your story with us at Soapdom.com, contact me via the contact page on the site.  You could get your story published as an official Soapdom FanTale!
