Dear Suds Buds:
How's everyone's March going so far? Getting ready for the wearing of the green on St. Patty's day? Growing up back east, St. Patrick's Day was always the first sign of Spring for me. It meant the weather would warm up, the flowers would bloom, the days would get longer, and school would be over for the summer in a few more months! But with the warmer days, I got to spend more time outdoors. Which meant, I left my soaps behind once the weather cooperated. Thank goodness for the VCR! LOL How about you guys? Are you fair weather soap fans? Speaking of St. Pat's day, SoapNet subscribers don't forget the Ryan's Hope marathon. See below for more info!
OLTL's Howarth Announces Plans to Leave Llanview
In a press release issued by the Official Roger Howarth Fan Club, Sunday, February 24, 2002, Roger Howarth will choose to exercise his contract out option this Spring. According to the Official Fan Club Co-Presidents...
"RUMORS have been circulating for quite a while now about whether or not Roger Howarth was going to leave OLTL this May. Well, we are here to tell you that YES, he will be leaving the role of Todd Manning late spring. Roger is taking his contracted option out and will leave the role we have come to love him in. His contract officially ends in May, but he has agreed to stay on thru June to tie up storyline for the show and his character.
"We are here to tell you as Roger's one and only OFFICIAL fan club site that this is an exciting time for Roger. When he leaves the role, he will take a much needed few months off and then he and his family will head out to California where he will start auditions for prime-time and feature films. While we will all miss him in the role of Todd Manning, this is such a great opportunity for Roger and we are looking forward to the opportunities that await him. We would like to thank him for the awesome shows he has given us and will continue to give us in the future!
"Since Roger will be auditioning for a PRIME TIME role, Bob his manager, Bob McGowan, has asked us as a fan club to start a letter writing campaign for him to help him get noticed. We will be starting a petition soon for those who are interested. Below is the information needed, such as names and addresses for where to send your letters. Get busy everyone, this is VERY important and this is how we can show Roger how much we appreciate him and support him.
"One more thing, we would also like to thank Bob McGowan for giving us the confirmation and all the wonderful help! (To all of Roger's fans), thanks for helping and we look forward to future announcements of good news and new roles!"
AMC's McClain Not Going to ATWT
Several fans contacted me this past week to get to the bottom of an internet rumor spouting that Cady McClain (Dixie, AMC), who is about to go off contract after initiating a divorce with her 3-time husband, Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight), is shifting networks and shows to head over to As the World Turns. According to the main spokesperson for As the World Turns, however, McClain is NOT joining the cast of that show. "This is not true at the present time," she said. Will it be true in the future; I queried further? "I doubt it," she said. Then offered the following caveat "But I have learned to never say never." Bottom line. There are no known plans to bring McClain to As the World Turns as of now.

Former AMC star Michael Nader stars in Prime Time!
AMC Dimitri Marick fans set your VCRs. Michael Nader has landed a guest-starring roll on Law & Order, Special Victims Unit. The episode, titled "Surveillance," deals with an obsessed fan that keeps a musician in his sights. The brutal attack of a young cellist, Cassie Germaine (guest star Tamara Gorski) in her apartment leads Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) to investigate her orchestra conductor Robert Prescott (guest star Michael Nader, ex Dimitri, "All My Children"). The relationship between the two, coupled with Prescott's penchant for amateur erotic filmmaking, causes suspicion when a scan of the victim's apartment reveals a series of hidden cameras recording her every move. But the detectives soon realize that the invasion of Germaine's home is the work of a dedicated stalker determined to spend his life watching the object of his desire. Dann Florek, Richard Belzer, Ice-T and Stephanie March also star. The episode starring Michael Nader airs this Friday, March 8, 2002 on NBC at 10 PM ET/PT.
We placed a call to Nader's representative to see if we could get a few comments from Michael on his experience filming Law & Order SVU, but had not heard back in time to make this column. As I would much rather promote the fact that Nader appears again on your television screen this Friday, we are publishing the information, even though we didn't get to hear from Nader himself in time for publication. Turtle-Run thanks the fan who brought this tidbit about the guest-starring role to our attention!
ATWT's Martha Byrne and GL's Yvonna Kopacz in the Family Way
Congratulations go out to Martha Byrne (Lily/Rose) and her husband, Michael McMahon, who are expecting their second child in September of 2002. Not only that, Martha's pregnancy will be written into her storyline on As the World Turns. But for only one of her two characters! Stay tuned to find out which one! Or, if you have a preference, post it on the Turtle-Run ATWT Message boards and we'll be sure to pass it on to the powers that be! :o)
An over at Guiding Light, another dose of congrats is due to Yvonna Kopacz (Mel) and her boyfriend who are expecting their first child in August 2002. We do not know at this time if Kopacz' pregnancy will likewise be written into to show.

The Fervor Builds for 2002 Daytime Emmys
Oscar who? Hollywood may be in the midst of gearing up for its biggest night, but ask any daytime star what is on their mind and most likely they'll tell you it's the upcoming Daytime Emmy's! Of course, the awards show doesn't air until May and it's only early March, but assembling the nominees and preparing the ballots takes months of planning.
On Friday, March 1st, everyone registered in the Academy of Arts and Sciences faced the deadline to return ballots to Deloitte & Touche LLP, the accounting firm that is responsible for tallying the nominees and winners. The ballots due on March 1st contained possible nominees for categories such as best actor, best actress and best show, among others. A mere two weeks later, on March 14th, the nominations will be announced; most likely from New York City, the home of this year's telecast.
The end of April is crucial for the nominees since voting takes place in New York on April 20-21 and in Los Angeles on April 27-28. Members of the academy are gathered into various groups where they spend their weekend watching tapes of the nominated actors and shows. It is during this time that the judging panels make their choices in the various categories. However, since the judging is confidential, not even those on the voting panel know the winner.
Deloitte & Touche keeps the ballots locked up until the Emmys are given out in what are actually three different ceremonies. On May 11th, the Creative Arts Awards take place in both LA and New York. The Creative Awards honor the best in makeup and hairstyling, camera editing, music, art direction, etc.
Then, mark your calendars for May 17th, 2002! It's the night when daytime shines. Watch your favorite daytime stars walk the red carpet in support of their show and fellow nominees. The Emmys will air live on CBS from MadisonSquareGarden. Last year's show took place atRadioCityMusic Hall. No host(s) has been announced for this year's telecast at this time.
