Dear Suds Buds,

Did you get to see the Daytime Emmy broadcast on Friday, May 20th?  Of course you did. What self-respecting soap fan would miss Daytime's brightest night?

Did you enjoy the show?  I did.  My favorite parts were David Canary (Adam/Stuart, AMC) and Oscar the Grouch (Sesame Street); Eric Braeden’s (Victor, Y&R) slip of the tongue; looking at Il Divo (Simon Cowell’s European singing sensation – although their operatic style is not my first choice in music, they were awfully cute. Couldn’t you see any one of them on your favorite soap?); the opening sequence hosted by Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC), Diedre Hall (Marlena, DOOL) and Eric Braeden (Victor, Y&R); and the fact that Natalia Livingston (Emily, GH) won her first time out.

My not so favorite parts of the show were David Lago’s (ex Raul) attempt at vindication toward Y&R cutting him loose; the tribute to Bill Bell; which I thought should have been more memorable; and, the fact that my old friend, Michael E. Knight (Tad, AMC), was passed over his first time out as an Outstanding Actor nominee.  Not that Christian LeBlanc isn’t a fine actor and likewise deserved the award, but I think it would have been very special for Knight had he won this time.  Speaking of Knight and LeBlanc, did you know that LeBlanc also auditioned for the role of Tad on AMC? Yup.  He was beat out (along with 300 other hopefuls) by Michael Knight.  Guess LeBlanc landed where he was supposed to land!

My sincere congratulations to all the winners and to all the nominees.  Did your favorites win this year?  If not, there is always next year – and there are still the Cybby Awards.  Be sure to cast your votes in both the Emmy and Fun categories.  Hopefully, your favorites will win the Cybby Award this year.

And lest you miss any of the Emmy brouhaha, stay glued to Soapdom.com.  We’ve got the list of the winners.  Plus, Soapdom’s Katie Schaar breaks down the broadcast for us as only she can.  Coming up this week is our Red Carpet and Press Room coverage and so much more.  Soapdom’s Merle Goldberg spoke to everyone who is anyone on all the soaps and we’ve got exclusive photos, too. We were at the events – some a real blast – one turned out to be a real dud – and we will tell you which and why this week and next.  Be sure to check it all out.

To shift gears a bit, I am delighted to see some of the soaps venturing out to on location shooting. This week on All My Children, Erica and Jackson get married in Boca Raton, Florida. Just cop a gander at our First Looks photos for this week.  What a romantic getaway.

But ABC isn’t the only network taking actors to exotic locales. NBC has taken a gamble with Passions and headed to Las Vegas!  (I could go on with a few more puns on the gambling thing, but I will spare you ;o)  Not only are Harmony’s denizens hitting the bright lights and mega slots of Vegas, but we’ve been introduced to two brand new characters – Ned and Fancy.  I can’t wait to see how these two will stir things up in Harmony.

And recently, B&B went on location locally in Los Angeles, when they shot a montage sequence at LA’s new entertainment/residence/retail complex, The Grove.

Great to see the soaps getting out of the studio. I hope the trend continues.
