Dear Suds Buds,
So much to share. Let's get right to it!
DOOL Celebrates People's Choice Award at Set-Side Party
"Last Sunday night was one of the coolest nights I ever spent in my life," said Ken Corday on Friday, January 18th, at the "Days of our Lives' stage in Burbank, CA, as cast and crew gathered to celebrate their recent victory at the People's Choice Awards. Showing a very human side, Corday explained that being on stage to accept the award was daunting, to say the least, especially with Julia Roberts sitting in the audience right in front of him and grinning from ear to ear. Days was named Favorite Daytime Dramatic Series for the third consecutive time that night, and Corday again congratulated the entire "Days of our Lives" family. To those he didn't get to thank on Awards night, he thanked at the set-side party.
"The amazing thing about an award like this is that it does come from the fans," said Sheraton Kalouria, Senior Vice President of NBC Daytime Programming to the cast and crew. "It is a tangiable mark of appreciation for all the hard work that you do 52 weeks a year.
Jeff Zucker, President of NBC Entertainment agreed. "I just want you to know how proud we are of this show. I talk a lot about the critics and the role they play. It really doesn't matter what the critics think. All that matters is what the fans think. On behalf of all of us (at NBC) we are very proud of you."
Steve Mosko, President of Columbia TriStar Domestic Television, thanked NBC for the fantastic job the network does promoting the show. "What's amazing to me is to think that this show has been on for 37 years, five days a week, and what we all talk about (in prime time) is that we hope to get 22 episodes done in one year and let's hope we can stay on 4 years so we can go syndicated. But 37 years, five days a week, it is absolutely incredible. It's not only the passion of Ken (Corday), it's the passion of everyone in this room. From everyone at Columbia TriStar Domestic Television, thank you for everything. It's been an amazing run. Let's keep it going!"
After photographs were taken, original cast member Frances Reid joined Ken Corday in cutting the first piece of cake.

Passions' Travis Schuldt Says Buh-bye to Harmony
In a flurry of disappointment, many "Passions" fans scrambled to Turtle-Run's message boards to discuss the rumor that Passions' Travis Schuldt (Ethan) would be leaving the show. Travis' departure has been confirmed and according to the show it was Schuldt's decision not to renew his contract. "Travis has decided not to resign with Passions as he would like to pursue other projects," the spokesperson told Turtle-Run. "We wish him every success."
One of the original cast members, Schuldt was the other half of hot couple Theresa (Lindsay Korman) and Ethan. "The character of Ethan Winthrop is integral to the show and is currently being recast," said the spokesperson. But ET fans should not worry just yet. Schuldt is scheduled to be around for a few more months. According to the spokesperson they do not have a final airdate on Schuldt. "It could be as late as June, 2002."

Soap Stars at Home on Cable
Did you ever wonder if the off-camera lives of the soap stars are as dramatic as they appear on TV? Home & Garden Television (HGTV) invites you to tour the homes of seven of daytime's most popular soap divas, bad girls, and heartthrobs with the premiere of "Soap Pads II" on February 10 at 9 PM ET/PT. Host Kim Zimmer (Reva, GL), gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how her soap opera peers live when they are at home.
Want to know what stars' homes will be featured? No need to speculate. Just read on!
Kin Shriner (Scotty, GH) has played a tough-skinned attorney with a heart of gold on GH for more than 20 years. His home, near Hollywood, CA is a contemporary and light-filled structure inspired by the design ideas of another soap star, Susan Brown (Port Charles). Brown is a longtime friend of Shriner's who has also played his mother on screen. Shriner's 3,800 square-foot home includes a baby grand piano that once belonged to retired soap star Emma Samms and a collection of vintage movie posters featuring the likes of Myrna Loy and William Holden.
Julia Barr (Brooke, AMC) plays a spoiled rich girl on screen, but off screen she is a respected journalist and editor. She resides in her contemporary, art-filled suburban New Jersey home with her husband, Richard Hirschlag. Together they've created their ideal "haven: that is casual, worldly and modern, with a sense of balance and flow.
Susan Seaforth Hayes and Bill Hayes (Julie and Doug, DOOL) are married on screen and off. And they wouldn't have it any other way. Bill and Susan met on the set of DOOL in the 1970s. Four years later, they got married, and they are currently still living in the Mediterranean-inspired home in LA where they said their vows. Their home reflects the couple's "desire to be in Italy at all times," says Susan!
Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL) as Olivia is cunning and sly, but she herself is as down-to-earth as they come. Her Brooklyn brownstone is shared with her son, Jake, and her husband, Michael Sabatino, a soap star and theater actor. The 1,000 square foot apartment features casual overstuffed furniture, soft chenille and lots of natural light.
Galen Gering (Luis, PAS), who was voted one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2000, has another "passion" in addition to his love of acting. He loves to garden! His favorite aspect of his 1920's Spanish-style Hollywood home is his beautiful backyard where he unwinds after a hard day's work. Another element he adores is a relief of a Spanish explorer on the front door, which reminds him of his family's heritage.
Eileen Fulton (Lisa, ATWT), a soap veteran as the venerable and feisty Lisa, a well-to-do businesswoman who has survived as many as 8 tough marriages. Off screen, Fulton resides in a dramatic New York City apartment overlooking Central Park. Her Upper West Side apartment, located in a 1930's art deco building, is decorated with rich woods, soft fabrics and vibrant wall colors. Fulton's foyer is filled with precious memorabilia, featuring photographs and awards that represent her 40+ years on stage and in television.
Kimberlin Brown (Rachel, Port Charles) plays a character who is the designated "bad girl" of soaps. In real life, she is down-to-earth and prefers a comfortable home designed with her family's needs in mind. Brown's home in San Juan Capistrano, CA is a renovated English Tudor with an all-American décor that includes comfy leather sofas, and a casual but beautiful ambiance that she enjoys with her husband and two children.
An encore presentation of "Soap Pads, II" airs Wednesday, February 13 at 10 PM ET/PT.
"Is it true that Kelly Kruger will be playing Mac?" mystiethecat
Yes! Television actress Kelly Kruger has joined the cast of Y&R. She will assume the role of Mac Browning, taking over for departing Ashley Bashioum. Kruger's television credits include "Titans," "Arrest in Trial" and "Undressed." Her first airdate is Feb 19, 2002.
"I take exception to the comment in the Sneak Peeks for (the week of January 28) for Days of our Lives that says that Cynthia is the girl that Philip had a heated one night stand with her and left her high and dry? If memory serves me correctly, Philip did not spend the night with her, or have sex with her. The term "one-night stand" implies that a couple has had sex and there may be some people reading these sneak peeks that do not know that, and will assume that they DID have sex." Pam
Thanks for sharing your take on that, Pam. We did not mean to imply that Philip and Cynthia had slept together. Only that she was feeling jilted by him. However, I must agree that our wording was misleading. Regardless, Cynthia does have her sights set on making sure that Philip and Chloe never reconcile. We'll have to tune in this week to see if her plan succeeds.
"Do you know if Michael E. Knight is coming back to AMC? He seems to have been gone for so long. Thanks." Lori
Michael E. Knight never left AMC. His storyline took somewhat of a backburner turn over the holidays and he went off to film an independent feature film called "The Retreat." Cady McClain (Dixie) also stars in the movie. But with the new year his storyline should begin to pick up. In fact, he was on last week in some touching scenes with Dixie, trying to convince her not to proceed with the divorce.
"Is Carly from GH going to be shot because it's all over message boards?" Ashley
Excellent question. As far as I know, things are going to get very heated in regard to Sonny, Carly, Jax, Zander and Alexis. We will just have to stay tuned to see exactly what develops.
"I've noticed that even when other sites and magazines give Harley spoilers, you seldom mention them. Would really appreciate your giving us a heads-up when she has some things going on." Fitz
It's our pleasure to include a Sneak Peek involving Harley. If we find out that she's going to be up to something, we will be the first to give you the heads-up!
"I have a question that either no one will answer or no one knows the answer, and was wondering if you could help. Do you know if NBC and Days are excepting regular mail now? I'm not a big fan mail writer, but had written something to two of the actors via the SoapCity website and am afraid they never received them. I just wanted to know if the snail mail ban was over or not. Thank you so much for any help you can give me...I truly appreciate it. Take care, and thank you for your wonderful website! Sharon
According to Ken Corday himself, DOOL began accepting regular mail as of January 1, 2002. So, if you have something to share with the show, get your snail mail in the mail. For the address, see below!
