Dear Suds Buds,
First of all, I can't believe that it's June already. Where has the first half of this year gone? One thing's for sure. All the show's are gearing up for their hot summer storylines ahead. I can't wait to see how they all develop.
This week in Top of the Week we kick off our summer of fun, exclusive interviews with the stars. First up, "Guiding Light's" Billy Kay (Shayne), "Days of Our Lives'" Steve Blackwood (Bart) and a glimpse of LaLucci's latest venture. Plus, get a dose of just how hot summer in the city is going to be on "Sex in the City," what's new on SoapCenter and more. So, without further ado....
Billy Kay (Shayne, GL) on Work, Animals, and NY vs. LA!
Billy Kay (Shayne) loves his job, animals and life in general. A "Guiding Light" cast member for about a year and a half, the young actor couldn't be happier about his character's prospects. We caught up with Kay at the North Shore Animal League benefit Pre-Emmy party.
"I'm enjoying (Guiding Light) very much," said Kay "I think I have another storyline coming up. My last one involving the hospital (was good). The Emmys (are) coming up, so it's exciting."
Where does Kay think his storyline is going? "I don't really know, I haven't even picked up my script yet cause they're not ready for next week," he said. However, "I think my mommy gets her sight back and I get into trouble and I'm going to get a girlfriend, which will be great! Hint-hint!" he said with a laugh.
Kay is also excited about working on some of his own personal projects. Like the film he is about to shoot in Canada. "It's 'Halloween 8' with Jamie Lee Curtis, Busta Rhymes, and Tyra Banks. I can't wait," he said. Although he wouldn't reveal what the latest in the Halloween series is about, he did say it was very exciting. "It's supposed to be a killer soundtrack, too," he said. "With Busta Rhymes. I'm really looking forward to working with Jamie Lee Curtis. I'm an old Hollywood fan personally and Tony Curtis is one of my favorites. And this is her last film. She's retiring after this. She's only doing a cameo in it too, so I can't wait to meet her. That's going to be fun."
The film, already in production, will only require about three weeks of Kay's time to shoot his scenes. "I'll come in there, do my stuff, and then leave!" he said.
Kay, who attended the Emmys solo, is a big animal fan. "I love animals. I was at Pat Sellars (East Coast Gossip Columnist, Soap Opera Weekly) show and I was the only one who adopted a dog in Central Park. It was great. He's over a year now. His name is Bullet."
On the subject of which town is more to his liking, New York or Los Angeles, Kay had some definite sentiments. "I'm not a beach boy," he said. "I was just in LA for a while, and I am so not the beach person. I'm such a New Yorker--I'd rather sit on the concrete and burn up! LOL!"
Regardless of all his other endeavors, Kay is very comfortable being Reva's son on "Guiding Light." He also has a wish list of who he'd enjoy working with. "I love everyone on the show," he said. "There are lot of people I'd like to work with like, well, I never get to work with, well no, I did get to work with Laura Wright (Cassie)! I (also) want to work with Bradley (Cole, Richard). I want to work with David. Grant! I like watching him and Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny)! I'd really like to work with him. Those are my expectations and we'll see what happens."
Kicking Back with Steve Blackwood
By Jessica Radloff
On Wednesday, May 16th, Turtle-Run caught up again with Steve Blackwood (Bart, DAYS) as he performed at JAX, a blues nightclub in the heart of Glendale, Calif. Blackwood was gracious enough to take time out from performing to talk about his latest film, his passion for singing, and Bart's latest antics!
On Singing. . . . .
Steve is a very passionate and energetic performer. He has been singing for the past 10 years, but has really kicked this latest part of his career into high gear for the last four years.
Steve is a huge fan of Frank Sinatra and says that George Gershwin is his favorite songwriter. His latest record just got picked up by Positone Records and will debut in August. Steve performed with Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe, DOOL) at Patrika Darbo's and Kevin Spirtas' Cabaret with Wesleys during the DOOL Fan Club Weekend on Friday, June 1st.
On his latest film, Ed Gein. . . . .
Steve was greatly appreciative of all the support he has received for his portrayal of a good guy construction worker who solves a murder mystery in the film Ed Gein. In fact, now that the film has completed its run at the Galaxy Theatre in Hollywood, Steve is hoping that it will expand to both New York City and Chicago. If so, he'd love the opportunity to go to New York and publicize the film.
On "Days of our Lives" and on Bart . . . . .
If he was forced to choose, Steve says he'd rather play the comedic character of Bart on DOOL rather than the dramatic characters in movies and film. However, he loves and respects both mediums and welcomes the opportunity to do both. In character Steve says, "Bart speculates that Stefano will call him and Rolf (on the phone) and mastermind the plans through them. Enter Lexie as a possible villainess."
Will Bart's speculations prove correct? We have to tune in and see!
Bedazzled, Bedecked and Bejeweled. LaLucci Supplies the Bangles.
On May 31, 2001, Susan Lucci and HSN (Home Shopping Network) proudly announced the launch of Lucci's own line of jewelry inspired by her personal experiences as a wife, a mother, and actress. "The Susan Lucci Jewelry Collection," featuring more than 40 unique pieces, will debut on June 3 on HSN, with presentations at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET and will be continuously available on hsn.com .
"Susan's new jewelry line mirrors her sophistication, elegance and beauty
that has made her one of the most popular actresses on television today," said Jeff Taraschi, executive vice president of HSN. "We're thrilled to bring this exquisite collection to our viewers."
"If I could own a perfect jewelry collection, this would be it!" said Lucci. "Working with a wonderfully gifted team of designers, we created a line that's feminine, glamorous, sexy and sophisticated, ranging from casual
daytime to stunning eveningwear pieces."
And guess who had input on Lucci's decision to create a line of jewels? You guys, that's who! Inspired by years of fans' compliments on particular earrings, bracelets or necklaces worn to parties or award shows, Lucci sought to develop a jewelry collection that reflected her own life, career and travels. Working with HSN, the idea became a reality. The line features gold and silver tone earrings, necklaces, bracelets and belts. One particular piece, a delicate gold bracelet, was inspired by a wedding gift from Lucci's husband.
Lucci, best known to television audiences as strong-willed heroine Erica Kane on ABC Daytime's long-running "All My Children," she thrilled her fans in 1999, when she won her very first Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress. Last year, Lucci won rave reviews for her stint as Annie Oakley in the Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun." She continues to take singing and dance lessons and plans to star in another Broadway show in the near future.
Sex and The City Season Premier, June 3, 2001 (9 PM ET) on HBO
Carrie, a little older and a little wiser, searches for a soulmate, knowing that it may be the unattainable Holy Grail. In the meantime, Samantha looks for intimacy in the strangest places. Then, Charlotte must confront the realities of her on-again, off-again marriage, as Miranda faces down her fears about being alone.
A candid, comic view of sex and relationships, "Sex and the City" stars Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, a New York-based writer who explores and experiences the unique world of Manhattan's dating scene, chronicling the mating habits of single New Yorkers. Created by Darren Star (creator of "Beverly Hills 90210 "and "Melrose Place") and executive produced by Michael Patrick King, the series also stars returning stars Kim Cattrall as PR executive Samantha Jones, who's seen -- and done -- it all; Kristin Davis as art dealer Charlotte York, who still believes love can conquer all; and Cynthia Nixon as corporate lawyer Miranda Hobbes, a cynic who may or may not be a pushover for romance.
Proving that you can never entirely leave the past behind, the men in their lives are also back, including Chris Noth (Mr. Big), Kyle MacLachlan (Trey, Charlotte's estranged husband), John Corbett (Aidan, Carrie's ex-flame), David Eigenberg (Steve, Miranda's ex-boyfriend) and Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch).
"Sex in the City" kicks off its fourth season with two new episodes back-to-back. First up is "The Agony and the Ex-tacy" premiering Sunday, June 3, 2001 at 9 PM, where Carrie asks herself the poignant question: soulmates? Reality or torture device? She comes to realize that being 35 and single is not easy, but having great friends, Mr. Big included, makes it a lot nicer. Meantime, Charlotte wonders if Trey is her soul mate, while Miranda turns singledom into a comedy routine, and Samantha can't seem to get a new sexy man out of her mind. Too bad the guy in question is a priest!
Immediately following the season premiere is the second new episode of the season called "The Real Me," (Sunday, June 3, 2001, 10 PM ET) when Carrie is asked to be a runway model for a charity fashion show. However, her insecurities are put to the test and she wonders: No matter how hard we look, do we ever see ourselves clearly? In the meantime, Samantha wants to freeze a moment in time. So, what does she do? She decides to have some photographs taken. What's of particular interest is that these particular photos are quite revealing! Later, Charlotte is forced to get to know herself better as Miranda is mesmerized by the idea that a man actually finds her sexy!
Encore airings of "Sex and the City" are scheduled for Tuesdays at 11 PM ET and Wednesdays at 10 PM ET.
