Dear Suds Buds,
It is truly heartwarming to be part of an industry that joins together to give back to the fans that support it. In the recent past weeks, Turtle-Run has told you about many events where stars of daytime have given of their time, talent and celebrity to host and/or participate in fundraisers for the victims of "Tragic Tuesday," the terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, and the in the air over PA on September 11, 2001. TRO's editorial assistant, Jessica Radloff, attended one such star-studded event held in Los Angeles last week, and gives you the low down on the hoe down first up in Turtle-Run's "Top of the Week" column this week.
My hat's off to everyone in daytime and the entertainment industry who has given of themselves to give back. God Bless America.
Daytime Supports Acoustic Americans Unplugged Tribute & Benefit For The American Red Cross 9.11 Disaster Relief Fund
By Jessica Radloff
In wake of the September 11th tragedy, the American people have united to support one another and raise money for the families affected by terrorism. Always willing to help, the daytime community has shown why they are the best in the biz by organizing numerous fundraisers and benefits to support those in need. Wednesday night, October 9th was no exception as "Days of our Lives'" Peter Reckell (Bo) and his wife, Kelly Moneymaker, organized a star-studded benefit in which stars from both daytime and primetime came to recognize heroes and raise money.
Held in Hollywood, CA, the "Acoustic Americans Unplugged Tribute and Benefit" raised thousands of dollars for the America Red Cross 9.11 Disaster Relief Fund. Although the mood was somber, the stars were anything but. Masters of Ceremonies Bob Saget ("Full House") and Rob Schneider ("Saturday Night Live," "The Animal") entertainedthe crowd of about 150 while some of daytime's finest performed songs, danced, and read touching tributes. Days' Patrika Darbo (Nancy) and Kevin Spirtas (Craig) were a popular duo as Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam. The Young and the Restless' Lyndsy Fonseca (Colleen) performed a spirited dance routine to Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop (Thinking about Tomorrow)." General Hospital's Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis), Stephen Nichols (Stefan) and Port Charles' Lynn Herring (Lucy) reminded everyone why they are so lucky to be Americans. Young and the Restless star, and United Airlines flight attendant, Kate Linder, spoke elegantly about the co-workers who perished on United Airlines Flight 93 and why it is essential for the American public to keep flying. Peter Reckell and Steve Blackwood (Bart, DAYS) also lent their extraordinary singing talents to cap off the event. Y&R upstart, Lauren Woodland (Brittany), cheered on her fellow soap celebrities, and Lisa Fox from LA's top radio station, "Star 98," likewise stopped by to show her support.
Throughout the night, numerous items were auctioned off to raise additional money for the Red Cross. Set tours, autographed guitars, and vacation getaways were all part of the plan to lure big spenders. Days of our Lives stars Kristian Alfonso (Hope), Kyle Lowder (Brady), Drake Hogestyn (John), Peter Reckell (Bo), Austin Peck (Austin), Arianne Zuker (Nicole) and Passions McKenzie Westmore (Sheridan) helped display the items up for bid. Zuker enjoyed her job the most when she helped take Kyle's shirt off as another item up for auction! Chloe, watch out . . . might there be some competition for Brady!
All in all, the evening was a tremendous success and an even greater affirmation of why we are called the United States of America.
General Hospital Star Stands United
Real Andrews (Taggert) has teamed with a member of the "General Hospital" art department to create a "United We Stand" bumper sticker.
"Angry and tired of these people capitalizing on the Trade Center Tragedy by charging outrageous prices for our American Flag and pocketing the money?" Andrews asks. "My name is Real Andrews. I play Taggert on the ABC Soap General Hospital. Clip Dox of the ABC Art department and I have designed a bumper sticker, so you can fly the American colors and show your support." The bumper sticker commemorates the day by depicting the American flag with the phrase "United We Stand 9-11-01" superimposed over it.
Andrews vows that 100% of the proceeds will go to the fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, children, and loved ones who need and deserve it. To order your bumper sticker and keep track of the money raised, visit www.realandrews.net.
In a statement issued by NBC on Thursday, October 11th, one month to the day after the terrorist strikes on the United States, FanFest was cancelled. NBC stated: "In light of current world events, NBC regretfully announces that it has cancelled 'NBC Soap FanFest' which was scheduled to take place Nov. 3 & 4 at Universal Studios in Orlando. However, we look forward to working with our partners at Universal Orlando to bring 'NBC Soap FanFest' back to Florida next year. We appreciate the continued support of all the devoted "Days Of Our Lives" and "Passions" fans who planned to attend this year's festivities and we hope they will join us again next year."
This comes as an unfortunate surprise to Turtle-Run, as NBC had just announced late last week, that they had some new and fun surprises in store for fans at this year's FanFest. Surprises like trucking actual sets from DOOL and Passions to Universal Orlando so that you could have your picture taken with your favorite character right in his/her own environment. My guess? There will be sets trucked in next year, along with bunches of other cool surprises. As the spokesperson from NBC said to me, stay tuned! :o)

Linda Dana Returns to Lifetime Cable!
Actress and talk show host Linda Dano returns to Lifetime Television
with columnist, Sloan Lindemann, and actress Tanika Ray as hosts of the new weekly magazine show "Lifetime Now." The new weekly series offers three unique perspectives on relationships, lifestyles and consumer issues
Well known to viewers for her ground-breaking crossover role on all four ABC daytime dramas, her long run as Felicia on the now defunct NBC soap, "Another World," and her successful six-year run as host of Lifetime Television's "Attitudes," Linda Dano returns to Lifetime Television as one of three hosts of the new weekly magazine show "Lifetime Now." Dano's character on "One Life to Live," Rae Cummings, is a relationship expert. Now, real life intertwines with soap life, as Dano will share her real-life thoughts on relationships, lifestyles and consumer issues with her co-hosts consumer advocate and attorney, Sloan Lindemann ("ABC World News," "Woman's Day TV" and New York Daily News Columnist) and actress Tanika Ray ("Wheel of Fortune 2000," "Living Out Loud"). Each host will offer her own "expertise" on a wide range of issues on "Lifetime Now," premiering Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 AM (ET/PT).
Turtle-Run wishes Dano all the best as she begins this latest in her long line of career endeavors. Dano fans, be sure to tune in!
Which leads me to...
...one side note. Turtle-Run cannot help but marvel at the sudden proliferation of "shared perspective" shows after the success of ABC's "The View." Along with "Lifetime Now," there has been the recent major network launch of "The Other Half," the male shared perspective show. However, "The View" has renowned journalist Barbara Walters at its helm. Somehow, Dick Clark, the main headliner of "The Other Half," although an entertainment mogul in his own right, doesn't hold quite the same weight in my book. Are there any guys out there watching this show? Are there any women out there gaining any insight into the male psyche from this show? If so, please share your thoughts on the Turtle Run message boards in the Criticize the Critic folder.

Making The Band Comes To MTV For Third Season
Reality Series Joins O-Town on Tour with Britney Spears
Season Premieres on January 4 at 8:00P (ET/PT)
On October 9, 2001- MTV: Music Television announced that the channel will be picking up the third season of the popular reality show. "Making the Band" previously aired on ABC. The show will air weekly on MTV, beginning January 4, 2002, at 8:00 - 8:30 PM (ET/PT).
Making the Band, a real-life drama and breakthrough concept in music and television, will stick to its original format, chronicling the private and public moments of O-Town's five talented band members (Ashley Parker Angel, Erik-Michael Estrada, Dan Miller, Trevor Penick and Jacob Underwood) as they continue their ascent into pop stardom. Following its premiere in March 2000 on the ABC Network, Making the Band has documented O-Town's formation, growing pains and rise - from casting calls; signing with Clive Davis' new label J Records in September 2000; and recording with music's hottest writers and producers, including Warryn Campbell (Brandy, Dru Hill), Steve Kipner (Christina Aguilera, 98 Degrees) and Desmond Child (Ricky Martin).
Now, the series follows the pop quintet as they become one of the year's biggest success stories. The audience will be privy to live performances and an up close and private account of life on the road when they join Britney Spears' tour on October 26th. Additionally, the new love interests of O-Town will be revealed and viewers will get behind the scenes with Clive Davis as he determines whether or not O-Town's own songs will make the grade for their next album.
"We're thrilled to be bringing Making the Band to MTV," said Brian Graden, President, Programming, MTV. "The show did incredibly well with our target audience when it aired on ABC, so it's a natural fit to bring this dynamic and entertaining show to MTV. This season should be especially compelling as the O-Town boys have reached new heights in their careers and are facing new challenges in their personal lives."
Two years after its establishment, O-Town is a pop phenomenon boasting one of the year's best selling albums, a gold single, the summer's number one hit and two sold out concert tours. Upon its release in January 2001, O-Town's self-titled debut album emerged at number five on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart and to date has sold nearly two million records. Additionally, O-Town has just recorded a new song, "We Fit Together," which is featured on the Dr. Doolittle II soundtrack and has been added to their album.
