The stars of Daytime shine so very bright when they gather en masse to celebrate the best of the best of their profession. This year's Daytime Emmy Broadcast was no exception. The women were stunning, and there is something about a man in a tuxedo (soap star or not!) that melts me every time.
Did your favorites take home the statue this year? What did you think of the show itself? The acceptance speeches? Even if your favorites weren't nominated, did they at least get to present? Could you catch a glimpse of them in the audience? Were you happy with the array of stars that were showcased? Post your comments on the TRO Message Boards, and stay tuned to Turtle-Run Online for our continued coverage of the 27th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Many, many Port Charles fans are emailing regarding the right-to-die story and the character of Claire, played by Linda Purl. As we understand it, a campaign is underway to keep Linda Purl on Port Charles, or at least bring her back for a longer storyline.
Although networks and show producers are loath to admit that these campaigns carry much weight, they do want to know what the fans are thinking and how you are effected by a current storyline or actor's performance. To voice your opinion on this storyline, or to have the network and the writers of Port Charles consider bringing Linda Purl back for a longer storyline, please send a snail mail to:

Now for something completely different! A TRO visitor recently emailed asking us to confirm a dedication that aired on General Hospital last week. Well, the dog ate the email, and I am now at a loss as to who asked the question. However, here is the answer. Wednesday, May 18, 2000 General Hospital was dedicated to Kimberly Ann Robinson, who was a crew member. According to a statement made by GH executive producer Wendy Riche, "Robinson was a dear member of the GH family who served as a grip on our night crew. She will always remain a friend in our hearts. She will be terribly missed." Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Ms. Robinson and to everyone at GH.
As you doubtlessly know by now, NBC is launching a groundbreaking story development technique. They are polling the internet fans of Days of Our Lives, and asking them to vote on the father of Hope's baby. The announcement of this daytime first was announced by Executive Producer and headwriter, Tom Langan, Kristian Alfonso (Hope), Drake Hogestyn (John) and Joseph Mascolo (Stefano) at a press conference and autograph signing at the NBC Experience at Rockefeller Center in New York City on Daytime Emmy Day, Friday, May 19, 2000.
Here's the deal: On Monday, May 29th through Friday, June 9th, fans may vote for either John Black (Drake Hogestyn) or Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) by visiting http://www.nbc.com/daytime.html. You will be the decision makers in who is the baby's father.
The storyline focuses on Hope (Kristian Alfonso), who was brainwashed, kidnapped, and held hostage for almost a year and a half. When she was rescued earlier this year, her family and friends were in for a few surprises. She had no memory of the last year and she was pregnant! As delivery day nears, Hope is still absolutely convinced that Bo Brady (Peter Reckell), her soul mate, the love of her live, her ex-and-soon-to-be-again husband, is the father of her baby. However, Bo knows what Hope doesn't remember - that the two of them were never together to conceive a child. What neither Bo nor Hope knows is that Hope was with two other men: her closest friend, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and her worst enemy, Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo).
Meantime, John Black and his wife Marlena (Deidre Hall) are Bo and Hope's best friends. Although these two relationships (John and Marlena, Bo and Hope) are rock-solid, they may not survive John and Hope sharing a child. This baby also may draw John and Hope together and destroy not only lifelong friendships, but marriages as well.
However, Stefano DiMera, the mortal enemy of the Blacks and the Bradys, is obsessed with destroying them. Yet, history shows that he has one greater obsession: his children. This could force Bo and Hope closer together, drawing on all their strength and the support of their families and friends, especially John and Marlena, to protect the child from Stefano.
"When I was contemplating this storyline," explains executive producer and head writer, Tom Langan, "I initially decided that John was going to be the father." But Langan soon realized that having Stefano, mortal enemy of entire Brady family as the father of a Brady Baby, would suddenly give him the elements of classic soap opera. "I was torn," Langan admitted. "I was passionately and equally excited about both potential outcomes. So I thought, let's hear from the fans and let them decide. This is their show, too. I am in a win/win situation. Both storyline possibilities are endless. This is a head writer's dream!"
Executive Producer, Ken Corday is also very pro on letting the viewers decide. "I am very excited that these events are not only a first for our thirty-five year old show, but also a first in daytime television."
Interesting that some of the message board posts I've read are very much against the poll. It's not so much that they are against the premise of fans voting for story in general, but this story in particular, and the circumstances under which Hope became pregnant in the first place. How do you feel about it? Have you cast your vote? Do you intend to? Please post your thoughts on the TRO Days of Our Lives Message Boards.
I believe this fan poll is a show of faith in the fans on the part of the writers/producers and a cutting edge use of the technology of the internet. If you do decide to participate in the polling, you'll also have the opportunity to enter a sweepstakes with multiple prizes and the coveted grand prize trip to Los Angeles and a walk-on role on Days of Our Lives! Winners will be personally notified by a Days of Our Lives star the week after the poll is over.
