Hi Suds Buds:

Well it’s that time of year again -- gearing up for the Daytime Emmys.  In an extremely supportive move, ABC Daytime, the host network of this year’s awards broadcast, is showcasing not only the broadcast ceremony itself, but is making quite the big deal of announcing the nominees.  This on the heels of a revamped nominating structure.

For the first time, an entire hour of programming will be devoted to announcing the Daytime Emmy Nominees.  Brian Frons, who heads ABC Daytime, has elected to have the nominees announced on The View to be broadcast this Wednesday, March 12, 2003.

Instead of giving the announcement a blurb on Good Morning America as in the past, ABC is devoting an entire episode of The View to announcing the Daytime Emmy nominees. Quite a true testament to the network’s continued support of the genre.  To make the event even more fun for soap fans, a number of top talent from all network’s daytime line up is schedule to appear and announce the nominees along with The View co-hosts.  (See Daytime Emmys Announced by Dazzling Stars.)

According to Frons, not only will the announcement of the nominees be a fun-filled hour, but the Emmy broadcast itself will be all new and different – thanks to ABC hiring a new team to produce the event.  White Cherry Entertainment has replaced dick clark productions as ABC’s producing partner for the broadcast.  Headed by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, White Cherry has also produced such high-concept, flashy programs as the Kid’s Choice Awards for Nickelodeon and ABC’s coverage of New Year’s Eve 2000 which covered the globe highlighting 24 hours of New Year’s Celebrations.  That telecast garnered ABC an Emmy, and Peter Jennings accomplished a 24-hour span of on-air time without falling asleep.  (Thank goodness for that hot mocha java and those tooth picks that held his eyelids open toward the last few hours! LOL)  Not only will there be new producers this year, but the Emmy broadcast will be expanded to 3 hours of air time!

But first things first. Be sure to tune into the View on Wednesday, March 12th to see some of your favorite stars announce the Daytime Emmy nominees.  Then, stay tuned to as we mount our 4th Annual Cybby Awards!  Let’s see if you agree with the Emmy Committee when it comes time to award the Daytime Emmy to its most deserving recipient.

Speaking of networks strongly supporting the daytime genre, enter NBC Daytime and Fan Fest 2003!  Partnering this year with NBC-owned Telemuendo, Fan Fest will host not only stars from NBC Daytime, but some of the hottest Telemuendo celebrities.

Fan Fest 2003 will be held at Hollywood and Highland, a high-concept shopping and entertainment venue in Hollywood, CA on April 5-6, 2003.  (Here is an interesting aside. A close friend of mine helped the City of Los Angeles raise the capital required to fund the Hollywood and Highland project!)

A major press conference regarding Fan Fest is scheduled this Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Hollywood and Highland’s Babylon Court.  Los Angeles based NBC Daytime and Telemuendo fans come on down and catch a preview at what you can expect at Fan Fest this year!  We’ll be there and for those of you across the country who cannot attend, so stay tuned to Soapdom for all the details later this week.
