Dear Suds Buds,
NBC’s Passions and ABC’s General Hospital are on board to help the American Heart Association raise awareness of the No. 1 killer of women.  Daytime dramas are famous for larger than life plot twists filled with passionate romances.  This February, two leading soap operas are showing their passion for the issue of women and heart disease through storylines and by helping to make the American Heart Association "Go Red For Women" red dress icon larger than life.

NBC’s Passions and ABC’s General Hospital will both include the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women heart disease movement in upcoming episodes:

General Hospital star Jacklyn Zeman will participate in the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day for Women.  Ms. Zemen’s character, Nurse Bobbie Spencer will wear red in support of the women and heart disease on the episode that aired on Friday, February 4, 2005.
Romance hits Passions’ hometown of Harmony hard as current loves meet ex-loves.  The star crossed couples all come together at The Seascape restaurant for Valentine's Day.  Dressed to remind women everywhere that their "hearts" take priority, Passions’ Cupid-struck residents dine in Harmony's finest establishment in front of a backdrop from the American Heart Association reminding women to "Go Red" and be heart-healthy.

Go Red For Women Red Dress Statues:

The Cast of Passions will join more than 20 other celebrities from the world of television, movies, food and fashion to inspire a collection of five-foot tall red dress statues.  The statues will be used to build greater awareness of the real-life fight against heart disease in women. The Passions statue was designed by Show Costume Designer Diana Eden on behalf of the Cast and Crew.

Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s woman and heart disease awareness movement encouraging women to take charge of their heart health in order to lead stronger, healthier lives.

Why red?  Red is the symbol for women and heart disease. Wearing red on February 4 will help raise awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of women.  Cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease, take the lives of nearly 500,000 each year—about one death per minute.  Wearing red is a simple way to join the Go Red For Women movement.
