TRO grows, NBC dominates the SOD awards & Star vacations

Dear Suds Buds:

What can I say? We had to do it. We held off doing it for as long as we could. In fact, it has been suggested that we are long over due in doing it.  Now it's done.  We did it. Turtle Run has ads.

Turtle Run is growing.  With each day more cyber soap fans join our community, more networks, publicists and actors ask us to conduct interviews or host chats, and more soap events invite our coverage.  We have only just begun to offer you what we plan to offer as a result.  There is so much more to come.

All of that is way kewl!  But it takes time, server space, resources, and personnel.  That stuff doesn't grow on trees. If only we could use leaves for money. That cliché saying would disappear and finances would be just a tree branch away.  Maybe if I lived someplace like Pine Valley. Then, I could ask Adam Chandler for a cool ten mill to grow my amazing internet start up, and he'd write me a check in a blink.  If I lived in Harmony, Tabitha could cook me up some potion. If I lived in Genoa City, Victor Newman could become my major investor!

But since I live in the real world, I need your help.  I need you to click those banner ads.  Yes, they're annoying.  Yes, it's easy to ignore them.  But!  Your taking a second to click will help Turtle Run continue to grow.  It will help because we need to reach and maintain an acceptable "click through" rate.  We can only do that if you click the banners.

In return, we vouch to bring you some neat offers.  For example, Click here for Risk Free Magazine Subscriptions to over 1300 titles. and get great discounts on any magazine, including Soap Opera Digest, Soap Opera Weekly, and Soap Opera Update, Seventeen, Entertainment Weekly and over 1300 more! You can get Soap Opera Weekly, for example, for 61% off the newsstand price!

Whether you choose to take advantage of the special offers is totally up to you, but clicking on the banners, especially the ones at the top of the pages, will really help our chances of keeping Turtle Run online and growing strong.  We've got plenty of kewl things planned for the future and with your help, that future will be here sooner than you think!   Thanks in advance for all those clicks.

(Want to know a secret?  I paid only $21.50 for my latest subscription to Soap Opera Weekly when I got it here. Click here for Risk Free Magazine Subscriptions to over 1300 titles. Who needs Publishers' Clearing House? LOL)

Nothing is at it Appears in OLTL's Llanview

On a very special Independence Day episode, fireworks of a very different nature explode on "One Life to Live " and nothing is as it appears in the fictional town of Llanveiw.  The unusual show will combine off-kilter comedy, special visual effects and a large dose of love, hate, lust and mistrust.

What's more, when something strange is happening in Llanview this Independence Day, no one is going to believe it, least of all psychotherapist Rae Cummings, who finds herself right in the midst of the chaos.  Then, while most of America is enjoying family barbecues and picnics, the fireworks in Llanview are of a very different nature. Fantasy collides with reality for several prominent citizens, such as Viki, Todd, Max, and Gabrielle.  Is it a storm looming in the air, or something in the Llantano River that is making Bo, RJ, Nora, and Lindsay behave this way? This is one holiday Llanview will never forget.  Or will they?

The episode is directed by OLTL executive producer, Gary Tomlin and written by David Cherrill, with the concept created by head writers Lorraine Broderick and Chris Whitesell.  Don't forget to tune in for fireworks of a different kind, Wednesday, July 4th on "One Life to Live."

NBC Daytime Dominates the Soap Opera Digest Awards

NBC Daytime dominated the 2001 Soap Opera Digest Awards with a total of 11 wins including Favorite Storyline and Favorite Show.  The awards, voted on by readers of the leading soap magazine, Soap Opera Digest, were announced in the June 23rd issue.  "Days of our Lives" proved its continuing popularity with fans by winning all of the categories for which it received nominations.  "Passions" increased its number of wins to three this year as it prepares to celebrate its Second Anniversary on July 5.

"Eleven 'Soap Opera Digest' Awards is a tremendous accomplishment," said Jeff Zucker, President, NBC Entertainment. "Our daytime dramas have made great strides recently and we couldn't be more proud of each show's entire team; they make the days of our lives better."

The award for "Favorite Show" marks "Days of our Lives'" 12th victory in the top category since 1984.  "Days of our Lives" also won the award for Favorite Storyline for "The Baby Switch,' which was penned by Head Writer/Executive Producer Tom Langan.

The individual winners for "Days of our Lives" are:
FAVORITE COUPLE - Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell (Bo and Hope Brady).
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR - John Aniston (Victor Kiriakis).
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER LEAD ACTOR - Jason Cook (Shawn Brady).
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER LEAD ACTRESS -- Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady).
OUTSTANDING CHILD ACTOR - Kirsten Storms (Belle Black).
OUTSTANDING VILLAINESS - Arianne Zuker (Nicole Walker).

For "Passions" the individual winners are:
OUTSTANDING MALE SCENE STEALER - Josh Ryan Evans (Timmy).
OUTSTANDING FEMALE SCENE STEALER - Robin Strasser (Hecuba).
OUTSTANDING HEROINE - McKenzie Westmore (Sheridan Crane).

This year, Soap Opera Digest conducted the voting for the awards exclusively online. Voting occurred from Wednesday April 25th to Thursday, May 17th at about.com.   Over 100,000 individual votes were tabulated, a significant increase from previous years when all voting was conducted from ballots located within Soap Opera Digest. The unprecedented level of participation coupled with the preventative measures that were put into place to prevent duplicate voting adds credibility to the outcome of these results, proving irrefutably that NBC Daytime is home to the fan's favorite soaps.

"To say I am thrilled with the recent results of the Soap Opera Digest Awards would be the understatement of the year!" proclaims Executive Producer Ken Corday.  The Soap Opera Digest Awards are the definitive daytime drama awards where the fans chose their favorites. A few years ago, "Days of our Lives" won consecutive People's Choice Awards and TV Guide Awards, which were also voted on by the fans. Recently, both of these award shows unceremoniously decided to abolish their daytime categories.  I thank Lynn Leahey, editorial director of Soap Opera Digest, and Stephanie Sloane, editor of the magazine, for continuing with their prestigious awards that recognize the voice of the most important members of our industry, the fans."

"Days of our Lives continues to amaze!" states a very proud Sheraton Kalouria, Sr. Vice President of NBC Daytime.  "Winning every award for which "Days" was eligible is a remarkable accomplishment of which everyone involved in the show can be very proud."

"My heartfelt congratulations go out to our talented cast and crew," Corday continues.  "I especially want to acknowledge Head Writer Tom Langan and his incredible team of writers for their wonderful storytelling.  Congratulations to Peter Reckell for his fifth Soap Opera Digest Award win, Kristian Alfonso for her third win, Alison Sweeney for her fourth win, John Aniston for his third win, and Arianne Zuker, Jason Cook, and Kirsten Storms for their first victories."

"The fans have spoken, " emphatically states Kalouria. "This magnificent sweep of the Soap Opera Digest Awards is further proof that 'Days of our Lives' is on a roll! Congratulations to Ken Corday, Tom Langan, and everyone involved with Days of our Lives. We're pleased that with the addition of Passions' three wins, NBC Daytime is truly the fans' favorite home for soaps."

TRO congratulates "Days of our Lives," "Passions" and all the other winners of the 2001 Soap Opera Digest Awards.

TRO Exclusive!  Summer with the Stars Part 2

Last week we told you how many of your favorites planned on spending their lazy days of summer. For quite a number of them, however, it seems as if there is no rest for the weary!  Their story lines are really heating up!  Here's what more of your favorites have planned for summer 2001!

RODNEY VAN JOHNSON (TC, Passions)
"You know what, I haven't decided yet, but most likely it would either be Costa Rica or Canada--I love Vancouver.  So, one of the two."

ARIANNE ZUKER (Nicole, Days of Our Lives)
"I'm going to the Hamptons! I don't know what week yet, but I might have to coordinate with Julianne (Morris, Greta) who is also going to the Hamptons."

JULIET MILLS (Tabitha, Passions)
"Summer vacation! As a matter of fact, my husband (Maxwell Caulfield, ex Pierce, AMC) and I are going back to England to stay with my family--my father and mother--my father is 93-years-old--John Mills. . . and we're going to visit with them in their house and in the country. . then spend a romantic weekend in Paris. . and now you can take the train right from London to Paris in three hours."

STEVE BLACKWOOD (Bart, Days of Our Lives)
"No vacation this year.  But I'll go up to Carmel and play golf. . . . I'm a misplaced Northern Californian.  Go up to Pacific Grove. Bring wife Karen and my 3-year-old daughter Nicole."

GEORGE ALVAREZ (Ray, Guiding Light)
"I'm taking my two sons to Minnesota for August.  I'm going to California a couple of times because I'm working on a movie.  It's called Venice.  I wrote it and I am producing it."

LAURA ALLEN (Laura, AMC)
"I got a house out in Fire Island. So, weekends I'll be on Fire Island."

KIRSTEN STORMS (Belle, DAYS)
"I'm working the whole summer, but we go on location to Catalina next week.  We're gonna go get pedicures as well, and go to the beach and stuff. . like total girl stuff."

CHRISTINE TOY JOHNSON (ex Lisa, One Life to Live)
"I'm going to go to Maine for a month to play Sarah in Guys and Dolls, so I'm looking forward to that. . . .getting out of the city, having some lobster, do a musical!  Other than that, I don't have plans yet.  I'm hoping to possibly get away for a vacation for a little bit, but we haven't come up with any plan yet."

MATTHEW ASHFORD (Jack, DAYS)
"No, not right now.  I'm just working right now, getting set in place and I'm going to take it from here."

MICHELLE STAFFORD (Phyllis, Young and the Restless)
"Yes I am (going on a summer vacation).  They (the powers that be) asked me to take my vacation during Peter's (Bergman, Jack) time, so I have to finagle some vacation.  I'm just a mirror peasant to Peter!  (But) I don't know where I want to go.  Somewhere hot I think."

PAUL LOGAN (Glen, DAYS)
"I might go back East to New York to visit my family where I lived."

J. EDDIE PECK (Jake, AMC)
"My family is with me during summer. I go back to L.A. and we take our motor home and go on a two-week trip. We've done Vegas. Skiing in the winter. We're always on the go, doing things."

FARAH FATH (Mimi, DAYS)
"I asked for three days off to go back home to Kentucky and I couldn't even get three days off!  My mom and sister live with me and they are actually going to go back to Kentucky for the summer, so I'll be on my own for my first time for a couple months.  It's ok, I'm working everyday. . I'm probably not even going to notice."

JAY KENNETH JOHNSON (Phillip, DAYS)
"Work. . .lots of work."

FRANK PARKER (Shawn, Days of our Lives)
"Maybe go up to Carmel and play a little golf.  Just gorgeous up there, just gorgeous.  If I get the time, go up back east and see my pals and go to the mountains. "

And...

EVAN RACHEL WOOD (Jessie, Once and Again)
"I'm just gonna hang out. . swim. . . hang out with my friends basically."

CHRISTOPHER LOWELL (The Christopher Lowell Show)
"There is no summer vacation for Christopher Lowell.  I am doing SIXTY-THREE rooms over the summer!"
