Dear Suds Buds,
The January 22, 2001 edition of TRO's Top of the Week mentioned that Soap Opera Weekly would be running a story of mine on The Sopranos in the issue that goes on sale today, February 5, 2001. That is only half-true! The story has been bumped to an issue that goes on sale later this month as, lo and behold, that issue is dedicated to The Sopranos, and my article will now be featured in The Sopranos issue. Thought I should let you all know, in case you were looking for it today. LOL
Speaking of magazine articles, ATWT fans pick up the February 3-9, 2001 issue of TV Guide. Michael Logan on Soaps interviews ATWT's own Marie Masters (Susan), who after being backburnered for so long, has now taken to writing episodes of the show, including ones containing some of the sexiest scenes. Remember Katie (Terri Conn) loosing her virginity in the back seat of a Cadillac thanks to Simon (Paul Leyden)? You owe those scenes to Masters. On a personal note, Masters shares the same birthday as yours truly! February 4th. From one Aquarian to another, Happy Birthday, Marie, and keep those steamy scripts coming. According to Logan's interview, Masters' current contract with the show includes her writing two episodes per month!
Each week Turtle Run gets considerable email asking questions about particular stars or shows, offering suggestions for interviews, asking us to confirm rumors, etc. Fear not. Every email is read and considered. I would love to respond to "Letters to the Editor" in every Top of the Week, but sometimes we have so much breaking news to share that answering "Letters to the Editor" would make this column scroll forever. I hope to get to some next week, as we have quite a lot of interesting comments. In the not too distant future, I am optimistic that we will be able to respond to your Letters on a weekly basis. So, please keep writing. I love hearing from you! :o)
Lots to cover, so without further ado
Kin Shriner Returns to ABC Daytime's General Hospital!
GH fans, you asked for it. You got it. Veteran daytime actor Kin Shriner (Scotty Baldwin) returns to General Hospital, providing the opportunity for the show to explore the classic history between Luke Spencer (Tony Geary), Laura Spencer (Genie Francis) and Shriner's character, Scotty Baldwin. As you know, Scotty has been an integral character on the show Port Charles since its inception in 1997, and he will continue to be connected to that show as well as working full time on General Hospital.
"There is tremendous history that Kin brings to the canvas," said General Hospital Executive Producer, Jill Ferren Phelps. "Having him back at General Hospital full time gives us an unparalleled opportunity to mine the show's rich history." Something that long-time fans always crave.
Speaking of history, Shriner created the role of Scotty Baldwin on General Hospital in 1977, and continued with the character, off and on, through the early 90's. Over the course of his long and rollicking run in the town of Port Charles, Scotty progressed from a sweet, lovesick kid, to a struggling law student, and finally a sexy man with a heart of gold, and one of the town's most expert defense attorneys. After being away from GH for several years, Scott dramatically returned to town on the show Port Charles, the General Hospital spin off, which premiered June 1, 1997. During his time on PC, Scott reconnected with daughter Karen Wexler (Marie Wilson) and love Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), who later adopted his daughter Serena Baldwin (Susan Brown). Serena and Karen will remain as part of the Port Charles family, while the character of Scott will continue to play on both programs.
"I feel very lucky to have been able to bring Scott to Port Charles," said Shriner. "And I am very excited to be working more with Tony and Genie as Luke and Laura on GH."
You can expect to see things really heat up for Scotty B. on General Hospital beginning March 5, 2001. Stay tuned!
