Again, we have tons of soap news to share. So, let's get right to it!
ABC Soaps Go to College
ABC Daytime will sponsor a series of College Campus Parties this fall as an extension of an overall marketing campaign to attract new viewers and maintain program awareness as you college students head back to school. As you know, the "Plunge In" campaign was launched earlier this summer, featuring bold photography and one-word descriptives of younger cast members. ABC will now promote its soap lineup on 27 key college campuses in 22 markets around the country from September 14 to October 13, 2000.
It will work like this -- ABC Daytime will sponsor parties where students will see videos featuring the hot young stars of ABC. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided and ABC Daytime will distribute premiums including trading cards, temporary tattoos, and rubber band bracelets featuring the one-word descriptives from the "Plunge In" campaign including "Hottie," Rebel," and "Vixen." Heres the fun part! You guys will have the opportunity to personalize the campaign by placing your own photo and one-word descriptive on a laminated campaign likeness. The perfect poster to adorn a college soap fan's dorm room!
Plus, there will be the "Are You A Hottie" competitions, where you will get to compete and be voted on by fellow students. All contestants will receive a "Hottie" t-shirt. One male and one female student at each campus will win an ABC backpack full of merchandise. Two grand prize winners from across the country will each win a grand prize trip for themselves and three friends to Walt Disney World during the ABC Super Soap Weekend, November 11, 12, 2000.
Here is the list of participating schools to date:
Arizona State University, University of Arizona, UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, San Francisco State University, San Diego State, University of Colorado, University of Miami, University of Florida (GO GATORS. Sorry. I digress. I am a Gator! LOL Now, where was I? Oh yes), University of Miami, University of Georgia, University of Illinois, Chicago, Northwestern University, University of Kansas, University of Maryland, Boston College, Boston University, Michigan State University, University of Minnesota, NYU, Columbia University, Ohio State University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Houston, University of Texas-Austin, West Virginia University and University of Wisconsin, Madison. Check back with Turtle Run next week for a listing of exact dates and locales of each event!
The campus events will be promoted at the various schools through posters, flyers, college newspaper ads, and many of the event markets will be supported through radio promotion. So keep your eyes and ears open. ABC Daytime will be plunging in on your college campus soon!

Letters to the Editor
"I love this website. I go on every morning to check out my soaps and I was just wondering, how do you know what is gonna happen before it comes on? I think it's soo kool, and I was just wondering how you do it." SugahAngel
Thanks so much for the kind words. Turtle Run gets it's preview and recap information directly from the powers that be!
"When will I see my favorite actor, David Fumero (Cristian,) featured on Turtle Run? How popular is he on OLTL? It seems he's always a player in someone else's story, instead of having a major storyline of his own. I feel he is being grossly underused at OLTL!" Toria46
We are delighted to feature David Fumero in a story at Turtle Run and plan on tracking him down soon, so stay tuned! You are not the only one who has written in regard to David Fumero. He has many fans who would love to see him used in a story of his own. That would lead me to believe that he is indeed a popular actor on OLTL. The good news is he is in a front-burner story now, being a part of the whole Will, Jessica, Cristian triangle. There will soon be a new character added to the mix. A young girl that Will meets in Ireland. It will be interesting to see what will happen next.
"I was wondering when the 2001 Emmy's will be held, and I was wondering how I can buy tickets for it. Thanks." onbaseMelissa
According to the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), the 2001 Daytime Emmys will be held sometime in May, 2001, but the exact date has not yet been set. As soon as they set a date, they will let us know. In the meantime, I can tell you that ABC will broadcast the event again this year. Stay tuned to Turtle Run for more info on the exact date, place, and ticket sales.
"Hi, I was looking at your site and just wondered . . . do you have any information on how I could get Galen Gering's autograph? I mean without joining a fan club or anything? Could I just send a request? And if I did, would he reply? Thanks a lot." DO3cDana
Although I can't say for certain, it's my educated guess that Galen Gering (Luis, Passions) would be delighted to hear from you, and if you wrote and asked him to send you an autographed photo, he would! You can write to Galen and/or any other Passions star at this address: Passions, c/o CBS Radford Studios, 4024 Radford Avenue, Studio City, CA 91604.
"Don't you think that it is about time they find Stuart and bring him back to Pine Valley? I'm getting sick and tired of all the teenyboppers in the show. They seem to be taking over." Wright30emtethel
Regarding All My Children's Stuart (David Canary), you are in luck. He is on his way back to Pine Valley right now! Stay tuned to AMC this week. It does seem that there is a major emphasis on the teen stories, but it is the same every summer. AMC and all the soaps, regardless of the network, focus on teen storylines during the summer months when the kids are home from school. Per our above news story, ABC is extending their reach to teens by making a promotional tour to college campuses this fall. However, now that the summer is winding down, we will probably see the storyline focus shift back to the veteran characters. There is a lot of story potential ahead for Dimitri/Alex/Edmund. Brooke/Eliot. Tad/Dixie/David. Ryan/Gillian/Jake. And I can't help but wonder how Erica is going to react to Dimitri's return. Should be very interesting, so stay tuned!
"Please find out if Jack & Carly have a future on As The World Turns. There are so many of us out there routing for them. Were praying for a Happy Ending for these two. Thanks for whatever info you can give." CburChrissie
Jack (Michael Park) and Carly (Maura West) have not had a good time of it of late. That is for sure. This week's shows will be very revealing. It is my humble opinion that Jack is still very hurt over things that Carly has done. It would be nice to think that they will eventually work out their problems and get back together. However, there will be many hurdles to overcome first, beginning with Jack's immediate intentions toward Julia. We will just have to stay tuned and see.
"I was curious regarding if you guys can also get guests in the studios when you do interviews? I have already been a guest on the Passions set, and I was wondering about Days of Our Lives?" whierdaXochitl
This is the perfect time to be asking this question! Just go to eBay from October 10-23, 2000 and bid on a visit to the set of Days of Our Lives. The receipts from the auction go to a good cause! (See Days and Passions Help the Dobies, above!) Good luck.
