TV Guide's Logan Gives Soaps Summer 2000 High Marks

In the September 2-8, 2000 issue of TV Guide, soap columnist, Michael Logan, praises the summer stories on all the soaps, except for One Life to Live and General Hospital. I have to agree with his remarks for the most part, except to say that I don't think OLTL was that bad. LOL. The Nora story may be taking just a bit too long, and Hillary B. Smith's acting may not have been up to it's usual stellar performance, but heck! It is not that easy to emote when you are covered in "injury" make-up and lying in a bed. LOL I do feel bad for Lindsay (Catherine Hickland), who has been turned into such a maniac by her actions, that it may be impossible to write her out of it. I hope they can. I love her as Lindsay. In regard to General Hospital, I loved the "Is it Brenda" tease and the way the big secret was kept under wraps.

Those differences of opinion aside, I am in total accord with Mr. Logan in his praise of AMC, DOOL, ATWT, and Y&R. The fact that NBC scored improved ratings for both its soaps, DOOL and Passions, is indeed great news for the industry as a whole. But I am most delighted with Logan's reaction to the work of Linda Purl (ex-Claire) and Kin Shriner (Scotty) on Port Charles, where he recommends that their performances be remembered come Daytime Emmy time next year! ITA. Port Charles on the whole is really coming around. It was a summer of pretty good soap! Here's to a rip-roaring rest of the year! How did you all enjoy the summer soaps? Post your thoughts in the Criticize the Critic Folder on the TRO Message Boards.

Letters to the Editor

"I was wondering if you were going to do a story on the Passions Fan Luncheon? I've been looking at several sites and can't find any information on it. I know you went, and I'd love to hear all about it!" TryshO

The first annual Passions fan club lunch was super! We will be publishing our exclusive coverage soon. Plus, we will also have coverage on the Another World fan reunion lunch, the Y&R and B&B fan lunch, the General Hospital Fan Lunch, the All My Children Fan Lunch and more coming soon! Stay tuned.

"Hi! I was browsing the NBC Passions site and I came across the link to your page. I am thrilled to see all of the awards that Passions came away with. I just want to say "Job well done." I found it interesting that one of my favorite sites (Passions) had a link to a site named after one of my favorite things (turtles-- I have two as pets). Anyway, your site is great and Bob is sooo cute. Keep up the good work!" Jt3t

Thanks so much for the kind words. I am glad that we have got you covered on two of your favorite things. Passions and Turtles! By the way, did you notice that Passions color is purple and so is our little turtle mascot, Bob? Great minds think alike! :o)

"I saw in the Turtle Online of Jan. and Febr. 2000 that there was an interview with Daniel Markel (ex-David ATWT) to come - has this been already? I'm afraid I could (not) find it! Thanks in advance for informing me!" noenie

Not to worry. You have not missed it! It is our pleasure to interview Mr. Markel in the near future! Stay tuned!

"Howdy! Luv your cool sight. Just wondering if you have any more spoilers or speculations on Danny & Michelle (Guiding Light). Do you think they will reunite before Joie Lenz departure from the show? Any other upcoming storyline for these two? Thanks!" VIngrande

Thanks so much for the kind words. It is a little disappointing that TPTB are placing so many obstacles in the way of Danny and Michelle's happiness. It may be due to the fact that Ms. Lenz is leaving the show. If that is the case, it is probably very wise of them to hold back on the relationship, depending upon a recast of the Michelle role. Time will tell. Far as upcoming story, Danny is definitely getting into some interesting areas. Check TRO's Sneak Peeks for more info!

"The person playing Kay Bennett as of 8-29-00, was she on the MTV series "Undressesed" as Elise????" Robin

Excellent eyeballs! Yes, I believe that Gina Marie May, who is playing Kay on Passions for an interim period, was a contestant on Undressed several weeks ago!

"I would like to comment on OLTL. After months of being MIA. Nora is found alive by none other than ex-con Todd Manning! He's not the bad guy now, because he brought Nora 'home'. I was SO hoping that Lindsay would pay up in spades for all she's done to Nora and Bo all this time! She thinks that because Nora doesn't recognize her, she's scott free! I'll be SO glad when Ben tells Sammy that Asa is his father! I'm SO glad that things are looking up for Antonio and Roseanne. I want Jessica to get off her high horse and give Cris another chance! If anyone's to blame for Will and Jess's break-up, it's TODD, NOT Cris! He and Will both bought Todd's lie that Vicki was dying. WHY can't Jessica understand that? I REALLY hope that Lindsay keeps her promise and takes Collin and RJ down with her when Nora regains her memory!" MMill86845

Great comments! Although there are a few kinks with OLTL, I am enjoying seeing everything unfold right now. Thank goodness that Nora's loved ones know she is alive! The question for me is how the heck is Lindsay going to talk her way out of this one? I love the character of Lindsay. Catherine Hickland is portraying her with such depth and feeling. However, my fear is that the writers are making Lindsay so manipulative and conniving, that they may end up writing her into a corner. Hope not.

More letters next week!

All My Children fans be on the lookout for Bianca to befriend a newcomer to Pine Valley. Her name is Alison Jones. Bianca meets Alison during her homecoming party at the Valley Inn. The question is, will Bianca and Alison become great friends, or is Alison Bianca's new worst enemy? Elizabeth Hobgood airs as Alison Jones on Friday, September 15, 2000.

Days of Our Lives fans watch for Chelsea Butler and Dyllan Christopher to portray a young Belle and Shawn respectively in flashback scenes on Thursday, September 14, 2000. Here's a little trivia for you. Chelsea Butler portrayed Belle right before Kristen Storms assumed the role in July 1999.
