Hi Suds Buds:
My husband and I relocated to Southern California a few years back to pursue our careers in the entertainment industry. Another major reason for the move west (we are originally from NY), was to take advantage of the moderate climate and sunny Southern CA weather. However, what we didn’t know prior to the move was the phenom called June Gloom. Just when you are ready for summer, just when the kids are gearing up for school vacation, just when you want as much sun and fun as possible, the Los Angeles metro area gets shrouded in Marine Layer – a fog that comes in off the Pacific – otherwise known as June Gloom.
Much of the time June Gloom breaks at mid-day, and the sun comes through. But this year’s June Gloom has lasted all day, seven days a week. Except for yesterday. Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous. Sun, blue sky, and the local Farmers Market. Another reason to live in Southern CA. Farmers grow fresh fruits, veggies, flowers and sell their wares on Sunday morning just several blocks away. It reminds me of summer in the Hamptons on Long Island in NY, where you can buy farm fresh white corn, ripe-on-the-vine tomatoes, and all sorts of other goodies. Being in LA, the local Farmer’s Market runs all year long. In the Hamptons, it’s only available in the summer.
Yet another good thing about living in LA is that it is home to six of the ten U.S. soaps. Days of our Lives, Passions, General Hospital, Port Charles, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful all tape in the Los Angeles metro area. We got to take advantage of that this past week, when we were invited to a visit the set at B&B.
And let me tell you, what a treat it was! We got to meet several of B&B’s top stars, including Jennifer Finnegan (Bridget), Sean Kanan (Deacon), and Bobbie Eakes (Macy) – in fact, we joined Bobbie in the make-up room as she was getting final touch ups for her next scene! Winsor Harmon (Thorne) flew in and flew back out, as his scenes were over for the day.
But the main reason for our visit was to interview B&B’s new lawyer, Rolonda Watts (Julie), who began taping only one day before our interview. Her character Julie will play a major role in Deacon’s life, as Bobbie, along with Julie, help Deacon try to regain custody of his son. Rolonda’s first airdate is July 17, 2003. Stay tuned to Soapdom for our in-depth interview with Rolonda, coming soon. Plus, we’ll also tell you what Bobbie Eakes would like to see happen for Macy – storyline wise. And, watch for our new “Look Like a Soap Star” column as we take you behind the scenes on B&B to get answers for one of Soapdom’s members who wants to know how Susan Flannery’s hair style is achieved. And let’s not forget our interview with Sean Kanan (Deacon)! Lots coming up for B&B fans, so stay tuned.
Yup. Sure is fine living in LA. :o)
