Richard Roundtree heads to Oakdale.

Richard Roundtree (Oliver, ATWT)Richard Roundtree Begins Airing in Oakdale on December 11, 2002

NEW YORK, Dec. 10, 2002.  Accomplished actor Richard Roundtree, known internationally for his portrayal of John Shaft in feature films ("Shaft," "Shaft's Big Score," "Shaft in Africa") and on the television series "Shaft," joins the cast of the long-running CBS daytime drama "As the World Turns."

Roundtree will play the recurring character of Oliver Travers, it was announced today by the show's Executive Producer, Chris Goutman.  An accomplished and compassionate attorney, Oliver is determined to set his crooked son, D.A. Marshall Travers (Lamman Rucker), on the right path. Roundtree's first airdate is December 11, 2002.

"We are thrilled to have an actor of Richard's caliber play the role of
Oliver Travers, and we are excited with what he is doing with the character,"
said Goutman upon making the announcement. "This character is a powerful
force whose moral presence will leave his son Marshall questioning his
convictions, and thus snowball into other many important stories we are
telling on the show."

Having discovered the spotlight while on a football scholarship at Southern
Illinois University, Roundtree later joined New York's acclaimed Negro
Ensemble Company. A succession of Off-Broadway roles culminated in his
starring role as Jack Johnson in The Great White Hope. Throughout his
successful career, Roundtree has starred with some of Hollywood's most
legendary actors, including Clint Eastwood, Robert Shaw, Peter O'Toole,
Richard Harris, David Niven, Tony Curtis and Laurence Olivier in such films
as "Seven;" "Once Upon A Time... When We Were Colored;" and as a series
regular on television's "Outlaws," "413 Hope Street" and "Buddies."

He is currently appearing on the Showtime series "Soul Food" and in the
Starz/Encore cable movie Joe and Max. Earlier this year he toured in the
world premiere of the play "Men Cry in the Dark."

"As the World Turns" airs weekdays on the CBS Television Network. (Check
local listings.) A Procter & Gamble Production, the show is taped in
Brooklyn, NY. Chris Goutman is the Executive Producer; Hogan Sheffer is the
Headwriter. Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin is the Executive-in-Charge of Production.
