Eric Martsolf Takes a Gamble!

Passions' Eric Martsolf (Ethan) may have his hands full, juggling two women and their babies and/or miscarriages, but coming this November, he will headline at a gala extravanza to herald the opening of a brand new, Palm Springs casino, owned and operated by the Agua Calienta Band of Cahuilla Indians.

The private VIP Grand Opening Celebration to launch the new Spa Resort Casino takes place November 17, 2003.  The unprecedented entertainment extravaganza for 4,500 guests will take place in a 140,000-square foot outdoor theater and reception site constructed adjacent to the $95 million Casino, and will feature a special guest performance by headliner Natalie Cole.

The Tribe retained Palm Springs-based Dick Taylor Productions to produce the invitation-only event, which will also feature a performance by Ruben Studdard, voted this year’s American Idol, as well as Eric Martsolf, star of NBC/s daytime drama "Passions" performing a medley of songs.  The production will follow a private, official ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Tribal Council and other local dignitaries.

"We are looking forward to a spectacular show,” said Tribal Council Chairman Richard M. Milanovich.  “The Tribal Council is particularly delighted that the producers have secured such talented performers as Natalie Cole and Ruben Studdard.  We expect the evening to be remarkable.”

The VIP Grand Opening Celebration will include major contemporary musical numbers, aerial performers, acrobats, special effects and powerful live and video production, for an incredible evening that will engage the audience with a total sensory experience.  More than 50 performers and musicians make up the talented cast, with Michael Orland of American Idol fame conducting the band, choreography by Lee Martino and stage direction from David Galligan. TV Production is being handled by Weller Grossman Productions.

Opening with a sensational number showcasing the rich history of Palm Springs, including the building of the elegant new Spa Resort Casino, the show progresses to a memorable duet of “The Prayer.”  Subsequently, seven magnificent flying performers thrill the audience with acrobatic stunts, leading into a special look at the Agua Caliente Tribe introduced and narrated by noted actor, Richard Thomas best known for his role as John Boy, The Waltons.  Fantastic musical production numbers throughout will include Broadway stars Dale Kristien and Sean McDermott.

The patriotic finale will feature the whole cast and heart-stopping fireworks to light up the desert sky. The event will be followed by an exclusive gala for all invited guests, to be held both outside and inside the sophisticated new casino.

To ensure that traffic runs smoothly in the city for the considerable event, the Tribe retained a former Tournament of Roses Parade authority to develop a comprehensive traffic and crowd control plan in cooperation with the city and local law enforcement agencies.  “Our celebration is of a significant size and we are aware of the impact the event will have on traffic in Palm Springs,” said Milanovich.  “Therefore, the Tribe took extra precautionary measures to ensure safety and a smooth flow of traffic.”

The new Spa Resort Casino (www.sparesortcasino.com), which is already being hailed as a catalyst for Palm Springs revitalization, replaces the tented gaming environment at the 230-room Spa Resort.  Located at 401 East Amado Road, across the street from the hotel, the 130,000-square foot Casino is casually elegant and offers 1,000 of the latest slot machines and more than 30 table games, including Blackjack, Let It Ride, Pai Gow and Mini-Baccarat.  Famed La Jolla restaurateur Sami Ladeki brings two new restaurants to the Casino, Roppongi and Noodle Bar.  Other dining choices include a 300-seat Oasis Buffet and the legendary Stage Deli & Café.  The Sundance Bar offers cocktails and seven screens for viewing games and entertainment.  The 150-seat Cascade Lounge provides live on-stage entertainment nightly.

One of the most progressive and financially successful Tribes in the U.S., the over-400-member Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians currently owns and operates multiple business ventures in the Palm Springs area including the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage and the Indian Canyons Tours in Palm Springs.  The Tribe has a longstanding tradition of major activity and visibility in the Coachella Valley,  and it set an historic precedent by becoming the first Native American Tribe to own and operate two gaming facilities in California.  Over the past six years, ACBCI has donated more than $8 million to a long list of groups with special needs, including local community, civic and non-profit organizations.  The ACBCI is headquartered in Palm Springs, California.
