The holidays are joyous for most, but the pace can be disheartening for those who have lost a loved one. Being married to famed counselor John W. James, co-author of the Grief Recovery Handbook, The Young and the Restless's Jess Walton (Jill) has acquired a few words of guidance on mastering the stress of the season.
"Realize that your feelings are all right and nobody can tell you what's inappropriate about them," she stresses. "Acknowledge them and get it out."
The sentiment is an inspiration to Walton, who taps in to deal with the loss of her own father. "If I think of a wonderful time I had with him and I never got to tell him that, I say, 'Thank you, Daddy. I loved it.' It keeps the connection alive."
