How will the matriarchal diva stir things up in Springfield?

Marj Dusay (Alexandria, GL; ex Vanessa, AMC)Veteran Actress Marj Dusay Returns to Guiding Light!

Actress Marj Dusay will return to the role of Alexandria Spaulding on the Guiding Light, it was announced today by Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, Executive in Charge of Production, Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc.  Dusay played the role from 1993 to 1997 and again briefly in 1998, and received an Emmy Award-nomination in 1995 for her portrayal.

In making the announcement, Dwyer-Dobbin said, “We are very excited to have Marj back on Guiding Light. In addition to her considerable acting talent, she has an invaluable knowledge and understanding of the character, and she brings a fabulous sense of fun and style to the role.”

A powerful force in the show’s central family, the Spauldings, Alexandria is determined to right the wrongs of her brother, Alan (Ron Raines), and his son, Phillip (Grant Aleksander).  Most recently, the role was played by Joan Collins, who announced last week that she would be exiting due to other professional commitments.  (See Soapdom’s Breaking News, Past Breaking News for November 22, 2002.)

Dusay’s return to Springfield comes immediately following her run as the twisted mother-from-hell, Vanessa, on All My Children (1999-2002).  One can’t help but wonder had Dusay been available when GL initially offered the role to Joan Collins, would the offer had gone at to Dusay instead?

Dusay’s other daytime credits include Santa Barbara (1987-1988) and Capitol (1983-1986.)  She was a regular on several primetime series including the role of Monica Warner, Blair’s memorable mother on The Facts of Life.  She made over 150 guest-starring appearances on primetime television including such series as Brett Maverick, Cliff Hangers, WKRP in Cincinnati, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Perfect Strangers, Murder, She Wrote, Dallas and Star Trek.  In addition, she starred in the television mini-series Daughters of Privilege, Wheels, and Fire in the Sky, and in the feature films Pride and Loyalty, Macarthur, Breezy, Made in Heaven, Sweet November, and Love Walked In, among others.

Dusay’s first airdate as Alexandria Spaulding is December 26, 2002. Soapdom congratulations Dusay on returning to the role.
