Daytime and primetime vet heads up things in Springfield

Award-winning television veteran John Conboy has been named Executive Producer of the CBS Daytime drama Guiding Light, effective Monday, December 2, 2002 it was announced today by Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, Executive in Charge of Production for Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc.

"We are thrilled and lucky to have John at the helm of our show," said Dwyer-Dobbin earlier today.  "He is an impressive visionary with a sterling reputation, multiple Emmy Awards in daytime and primetime television, intensive experience in all aspects of daytime drama, and he is a great leader.  We welcome him to the company and are very excited about his plans for the show."

Conboy, who holds four Emmy Awards, is best known for his groundbreaking work as the creator and Executive Producer of the daytime drama, Capitol.  Capitol had the distinction of being the highest-rated half hour drama on any network the five years of its successful run.

He was also the first producer of The Young and the Restless.  His innovative, unprecedented work on the show's visual style set a new standard for the design and creative image for all daytime dramas.  His stamp on Y&R is still one of the reasons that the soap remains such a long-standing success.

Conboy was also Senior Executive Producer on the daytime drama, Santa Barbara and in the one year that he was affiliated with that show, he received one of his four Emmy Awards.

In primetime, along with developing several series through his company, John Conboy Productions, his credits include producing the made-for-television movies, The Solitary Man (CBS) and Kiss of a Killer (ABC).  His early career included several directing gigs for various CBS News programs, as well as two musical specials for CBS.  He began his daytime television career as a producer for the classic, Love is a Many Splendored Thing.
