WORLD PREMIERE OF MRS. FIELDS' "WINNING IS SWEET -- SO ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES" COOKIE DEBUTS WITH DAYS CAST MEMBERS OCTOBER 5, 2002
Five Percent of Sales Donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Salt Lake City - October 7, 2002 On Saturday, October 5th at Horton Plaza in San Diego, stars from Days of our Lives were on hand to greet fans and to unveil the winning cookie of the Mrs. Fields' "Winning is Sweet ?So
are the Days of our Lives" amateur chef contest. Approximately fifteen hundred fans gathered in Horton Square to meet the stars of NBC's number
one daytime drama and to sample the new Almond White Chip cookie, the
wining recipe submitted by Margie Fisher from Hartsville, Tennessee. Mrs.
Fields will donate 5 percent of sales from the winning cookie to The
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through the end of February.
Days of our Lives' stars Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe), Patrika Darbo (Nancy),
Kevin Spirtas (Craig), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Alison Sweeney (Sami),
Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), Suzanne Rogers (Maggie), Matt Cedeno
(Brandon), Eric Winter (Rex), Peggy McCay (Caroline), Veronica Lauren
(Cynthia), Darian Weiss (Will), and Jacee Jule (Patty) made the trip to San
Diego and accepted a mayoral proclamation from the mayor of San Diego
congratulating Days of our Lives, Mrs. Fields Cookies and the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society for their charitable contributions and effective cross
In fact, there were so many fans in attendance, it was difficult for many to even get to meet the stars. But the stars appreciated everyone coming out. "It was so great for us to see you all there," posted Ali Sweeney (Sami) on our message boards. "And everyone in the cast appreciated you all supporting such a good cause."
Prior to the autograph session, fans were treated to vocal performances by
Nadia Bjorlin and Kevin Spirtas. Kevin and Nadia each performed a solo and
then teamed up for a duet that received thunderous applause.
When notified that her cookie recipe had won first prize, Ms. Fisher
surprised Mrs.Fields with the poignant news that she had first hand
knowledge of lymphoma. "My father died due to lymphoma, so I'm especially
happy that proceeds from sales of my cookie will help fund research that
will help other people who have blood cancers."
Following the world premiere event of the Almond White Chip cookie, the
Days of our Lives cast participated in The Leukemia Society's San Diego
"Light the Night® Walk." The walks are held during September and October in
more than 224 cities nationwide to help raise awareness and funds for the
fight against leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. In
addition to the San Diego Light the Night Walk, stars from Days of our
Lives have participated in similar walks that were held in Las Vegas
Nevada, Henderson Nevada, Los Angeles CA, Greenville South Carolina,
Anaheim CA, Riverside CA, and Newport Beach CA.
