Out, but in.

Brian Scott Frons has been named president, ABC Daytime, effective August 26, 2002.  The announcement was made today by Alex Wallau, president, ABC Television Network, to whom Frons reports. Frons will be based in Los Angeles and succeeds Angela Shapiro, who was promoted to President, ABC Family, earlier this year.

In his new position, Frons will be responsible for all aspects of Daytime programming on the ABC Television Network. The current Daytime lineup includes "The View," "Port Charles," "All My Children," "One Life to Live," and "General Hospital."  ABC has been #1 in the key demographic of women 18-49 for 25 consecutive years.

In making the announcement, Wallau said: "Over the past two decades in the US and abroad, Brian Frons has built an outstanding track record of success in TV programming. His specific accomplishments in the Daytime arena, along with his other broad-based experience in production and syndication, makes him the ideal candidate for this key executive role at ABC.  We look forward to his continuing success, now at ABC Daytime.

Frons joins ABC Daytime from the London-based SBS Broadcasting, S.A., where he most recently served as senior vice president of Programming. He oversaw all programming, promotion and research operations for 12 SBS owned and operated channels reaching about 125 million European viewers.  Earlier in his career, he was president, Creative Affairs, for New World Entertainment in Hollywood, where he directed program development and production for network first-run syndication and international co-production.  Frons has also been vice president, Creative Affairs, for NBC Productions.

In the Daytime Programming field, Frons has held various executive positions, including vice president, Daytime Programming, for NBC Entertainment, and director, Daytime Programming, for CBS Entertainment. In addition to developing or overseeing numerous series, Frons was also instrumental in launching the "Soap Opera Digest Awards."

Frons began his television career in 1978 as one of three program management trainees chosen during a national search by CBS Entertainment.  He holds a Master of Science degree in Communications from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Soapdom congratulates Brian Scott Frons on his appointment to president, ABC Daytime.
