All the speculation of James E. Riley leaving as head writer on Days of our Lives and Hogan Scheffer coming may be true. Come to think of it, we do know that someone new is heading to helm days.  In a recent conversation with Bryan Datillo (Lucas) in Chicago last the weekend, he did mention to Buzz "With the new writer on board, I'm hoping for some positive changes." Datillo also admitted that when his contract is up, he will have to negotiate differently saying, "I wanted clauses included that would (give me the out) to be able to do different projects. They do not allow me to do that now."  Contributed by MEW & LMS

In Pine Valley, SORAS strikes again in the form of nuColby Chandler, now a teenager.  She's played by Ambyr Childers and will hit All My Children this summer.  Can her mother, Liza, be far behind?  Stay tuned.  Contributed by LMS

Soapdom has just heard from an extremely reliable set-side source that James E. Reilly was indeed "fired" from Days of our Lives.  No other details were given. Contributed by LMS

June 28, 2006

Soapdom has learned that James E. Reilly's exit from Days to focus more closely on Passions is a done deal and that Daytime Emmy Award winning Hogan Sheffer (ex ATWT) is heading to Days to helm story crafting for the denizens of Salem. Although both the show itself and the network are still declining comment, Days of our Lives star, Austin Peck (Austin), has spilled the beans on his personal blog, confirming speculation that began several weeks ago when the entertainment industry publication, Daily Variety, broke the story. Peck goes on to say that he is excited to see what Sheffer is going to do and notes that "A log of changes are coming." Soapdom is still waiting for the official word from NBC and Days and as soon as we get it, it will be passed on to you. Meantime, check this out:  Contributed by LMS & CL

General Hospital fans who want to get even more of their favorite mobster, can check out "Chicken Soup For The Soul Magazine" whose June/July issue features Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) on its cover.  Inside there is an interview with the Emmy-winning actor that focuses on family and his life-long battle with manic depression.  Contributed by LDB

This weekend, the man of steel hits a movie theatre near you.  The press is calling "Superman Returns" star, Brandon Routh, a newcomer.  But One Life to Live fans, you know better. Routh starred on the sudser from 2001 to 2002 as Seth, then Jessica's (Erin Torpey) boyfriend. Although, we don't remember him making any major heat waves in Llanview back then, we hope that with x-ray vision, the ability to leap tall buildings at a single bound and being faster than a speeding bullet, Routh will be a hit at the boxoffice.  Contributed by LMS

Both SOD and SPW are reporting that Genie Francis, one half one of the most famous couples ever in soaps, Luke & Laura of General Hospital, is in talks to return to the show. GH has been extremely successful in recent months bringing back fan favorites, Tristen Rogers (Robert Scorpio), Finola Hughes (Anna Devane), Emma Samms (Holly Sutton) and Rick Springfield (Noah Drake).  Could Francis be the next in line?  According to set side sources, GH has approached Francis a number of times since her last departure in 2002, but they have not been able to work out a return.  Her husband is actor/director, Jonathan Frakes, of StarTrek: The Next Generation fame and although they maintain residences in both New York and Los Angeles, they were last living in London.  They have two children. Apparently, GH is continuing to pursue Francis as even her internet movie database listing is commenting that she is in talks to return to GH as of June 2006. But "in talks" is a far cry from a "done deal," so, we'll just have to wait and see. Contributed by LMS

Three of Days of our Lives biggest stars sat down to dish with Buzz during a recent Chicago visit. And you may be surprised.

First off, Bryan Dattilo (Lucas) is into gambling. He can’t stay away, and loves Roulette. “I’ll tell you...I’m in it. No, I’m not addicted because I know when I’m losing several hundred dollars it’s time to quit,” he said. “But I have a plan, and so far things have been doing well with winning. There is a strategy that I follow." Where does he like to play roulette?  "I LOVE Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Oh yea, I’m quite known there.” Contributed by MEW

Austin Peck (Austin) is putting together a series of children’s books that he’s in the process of writing. The books are about a friendship. “I love doing this. It’s still a way from being published, but I am proceeding.” Buzz asked any summer plans? “Oh yea! I’m going to Big Sur and some Island somewhere.” Contributed by MEW

Judy Evans (Bonnie) is doing double duty. When she’s not stirring up trouble in Salem, she’s teaching first through fourth grade. “That’s right! I’m a teacher and love it. I teach around my Days schedule.” Buzz asked, are you recognized? “Hell no. I wear no makeup, my hair is not fixed, I look sloppy (hard to believe). No one knows who I am or what I do. I have the best of both worlds. I love both jobs. As for acting if anyone tells you they hate their job, then they have no business in this business. I’m blessed.” Evans admitted that when she was on Days in the 1980’s as Adrianne Kiriakis she was paid more than today, but said, “Hey cutbacks. Soaps don’t pay what they used to.” She added that her husband works for MSNBC and said, “We make ends meet.”  Contributed by MEW

In some where are they now Buzz, Suzenne Marie Seradwyn Synder (ex Julie Snyder, ATWT) has a new music video and you can see it here:  Contributed by KP

Soapdom has just learned that General Hospital's Maurice Benard (Sonny), who is now portraying his character with manic depression (bi-polar disorder), and who suffers from the disorder in real life, will be traveling to Washington D.C. next week to speak before the Legislature in an effort to garner support from the government to raise awareness in regard to this disease.  In hopes of raising awareness on the airwaves, Benard has been instrumental in getting General Hospital to create a storyline for his character, Sonny, that deals with bi-polar disorder and this summer, the storyline is playing out. To those who see their loved ones showing symptoms of this disease, Benard says, "be supportive of them. Be loving."  Contributed by LMS

Is your pulse elevated? Are you short of breath? Maybe you need to check in to the Hospital! Soap Opera Weekly's first ever all-General Hospital issue hits newsstands Friday, June 23, 2006, with interviews with old faves like Maurice Benard (Sonny) and new faces like Jason Thompson (Patrick), along with the scoop on Sonny/Carly and Jason/Liz. OLTL John McBain fans we hate to break this news, but Michael Easton could be leaving Llanview. According to note from the actor via his official website:

"Although the subject is difficult for me to address, the intention is not. I'd like to take a moment to thank you all for your cards, letters and e-mails regarding my expiring contract. Your kind words were most appreciated. Unfortunately, I am unable to comment on the situation at this time and truth be told no decisions have been made. I will say only that ABC has been nothing less than wonderful to me from day one, as has my entire experience been on "One Life To Live." Anybody saying anything to the contrary is simply misinformed.  Lastly, I just wanted to say no matter what happens come August, thank you for giving me a home for the past three years. None of this would have been possible without you -- the best fans in the world. I am truly blessed.

Love, "

The actor's contract is up in August coincidentally.  Contributed by LDB

Everyone at Soapdom sends its well-wishes and prayers to the Spelling family.  According to E! Online, Aaron Spelling suffered a stroke this past weekend and is resting comfortably at his Bel Air mansion.  The 83-year-old patriarch has been married to second wife Candy since 1968 and is the proud papa of Tori and Randy.  Coincidentally, his children found fame with starring roles on series produced by their legendary father:  Teen phenomenon Beverly Hills 90210 (Tori portrayed Donna Martin) and Sunset Beach (Randy took on the role of Sean Richards) - Spelling's first foray into daytime television as a producer.  Spelling's career spans over three decades; the Texas native has had a hand in developing some of the most popular shows of our time with subject matters running the gamut from back-stabbing heiresses to ordinary family turmoil. Some of the jewels in Spelling's crown include Charmed, 7th Heaven, Melrose Place, Hotel, Dynasty, Family, The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. Contributed by LDB

According to the AP wire, though she famously sang about wanting "No More Drama" in her own life, Mary J. Blige is about to be transplanted into a world of crime, scheming, back-stabbing and scandal. She's taping an appearance on "One Life to Live." The 35-year-old R&B diva, whose latest album, "The Breakthrough," has sold more than two million copies, will perform two hits from that disc at the club Capricorn in the town of Llanview. The episode is set to air July 28.  Contributed by MEW

In some General Hospital Buzz, Jax fans rejoice!  Soapdom has learned that Ingo Rademacher has signed on the dotted line for another year! Several months ago there was a lot of speculation as to whether Rademacher would stay or go.  It was even rumored that a casting call went out for a character from Australia named "Hugo."  Many believed that "Hugo" was a replacement for Jax.  But when Soapdom encountered Rademacher at the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race in April, he was not giving anything up, admitting only that it was "too soon to say" in regard to his contract status.  Well, we can now put the speculation to bed!  Soapdom looks forward to another year of Jax in Port Charles. In some where are they now buzz, Christopher Lawford, who played Charlie Brent on All My Children, has landed a role in the independent film "Slipstream." Written and directed by Sir Anthony Hopkins, "Slipstream" marks Hopkins directorial debut.  Hopkins also stars along with an all-star ensemble cast including John Turturro, Camryn Manheim, Jeffrey Tambor, S. Epatha Merkerson, Fionnula Flanagan, Michael Clarke Duncan, Christian Slater, Stella Arroyave, Lisa Pepper, Kevin McCarthy, Gavin Grazer, Aaron Tucker and Lana Antonova.  Slipstream" is a noir comedy about an actor and would-be screenwriter who, at the very moment of his meeting with fate, comes to discover that life is random and fortune is sightless as he is thrown into a vortex where time, dreams and reality collide in an increasingly whirling slipstream. The story is described as a complex, surreal and dreamlike tale of one man's journey. Contributed by LMS

It's a family affair at Days of our Lives. Soapdom has learned that Lissa Reynolds, wife of Days's own James Reynolds (Abe) will make a guest appearance in Salem on Friday June 16.  Contributed by LMS

Congratulations to All My Children's Christian Hoff. Earlier this year he played the short-lived recurring role of Marty, one of Zach's henchmen at the casino. Hoff's day job is really a night job where he sings eight performances a week as Tommy DeVito in Jersey Boys on Broadway. Both Hoff and the show won Tony Awards this year. Oh, whatta night.  Walk like a man, my friend.  Who loves ya pretty baby?  We do. Way to rock the Great White Way. Here's to many more performances of Jersey Boys.  Contributed by LMS

There's been a ton of speculation, both in print and online, as to the fate of James E. Reilly and his position helming the writing duties at Days of our Lives.  The scribe has just signed on to pen another year of the show he created, Passions, and it's been rumored that NBC wants Reilly to focus his efforts in Harmony. Hogan Sheffer, the Daytime Emmy Award winning writer of As the World Turns, has been pegged to replace Reilly on Days.  Last week, SOD reported it was a done deal.  Sheffer was heading to Salem.  Not quite so fast.  According to our sources with the show, Reilly leaving and Sheffer coming is not a done deal. "We have nothing to confirm yet," said the insider. We'll have to just wait and see.  Contributed by LMS

In more Days buzz, Judi Evans (Bonnie) and Martha Madison (Belle) and Evan's son, Austin Luciano (formerly Dante' Cordilini of "Another World"), along with cast members of LOGO TV's "Sordid Lives,"  took part in the L.A. Cady McClain may be back in Pine Valley as Dixie, but that doesn't mean she's left Rosanna and Oakdale totally behind. She is in the final throes of recording a cd and last Sunday night, she hosted a "hootenanny" in the recording studio. Among other musicians and friends in attendance "playing everything from a beer bottle, to our legs, a Perrier bottle, a mouth harp, tambourine," was none other than her good friend, Hunt Block (ex Craig, ATWT).  Contributed by LMS & CL

In more ATWT Buzz, TV Guide's Michael Logan reports that in an upcoming storyline, Luke, Lily and Damian's gay son, will go off to a camp that claims to deprogram homosexuals.  And if you think that's a controversial storyline, Emily, who is pregnant, will allow her fetus to be harvested for stem cells in order to save the life of Jennifer's baby.  ATWT EP Chris Goutman told Logan that both stories "will steer clear of religion and politics."  He stated that ATWT wants to put a human face on these issues.  Goutman also previewed that the Luke twist is very startling.  "The camp director suddenly shows up at the house saying 'pack your bags. I've got the car running.' It's pretty scary for Luke. Not only is the prospect of going to a deprogramming camp a horror for Luke, the real horror is this camp thing turns out to be the catalyst of a tragic accident.  The accident will allow Martha Byrne (Lily) to take her maternity leave.  Question is, does Lily's unborn baby die as a result?  We're not 100% sure but Soapdom has learned that this accident happens in the home.  We can't spill all the beans, but we can say someone better watch their step. Further to the Luke story, Damian Young will join ATWT on Wednesday, June 14 as a Dr. Ross Kreeger. He'll be the shady shrink who tries to "cure" Luke from being gay. Contributed by LMS & CL

On her offical website (, Kari Wuhrer (ex-Reese, General Hospital) recently delved into the stress surrounding her highly-publicized war with former ABC employer over the network's "alleged" firing on account of her announced pregnancy (daughter Eva was born on March 27th).  Wuhrer posts:  "I can't speak much about my on-going legal issues, but I will say that I feel so fortunate to have such great representation. My team heard what had happened and believed in me and the case enough to get behind me as partners in the effort. Again I thank you all for your support and well wishes that you...
