ABC Daytime fans, get to know the president of Daytime Programming for the network a tad better.  And see what Brian Frons has in store for ABC Daytime and SOAPNet. Check this out!

July 30. 2008

As the World Turns fans, Soapdom is saddend to report that another character is about to depart Oakdale.  Because of budget constraints Mike Kasnoff -- and the actor who portrayes him, Jon Prescott -- will be leaving Oakdale this fall. "I'd like to express my gratitude to the entire cast, crew, and production team who have made this an irreplaceable experience," Prescott shared with his fans on his website.  "I have been privileged to be a part ATWT and this concludes an invaluable education. Most importantly, thank you to the fans who have been energetic supporters of both Mike Kasnoff and the show as a whole. Stay tuned as I share my next creative challenge with you shortly. Wishing you peace and power," Jon Prescott . Contributed by CL

But as Prescott takes his leave, SOD is reporting in the August 12th issue, that both Stenbeck and Dusty Donovan are on their way back to Oakdale. Anthony Herrera will first air as Stenbeck on August 27. Grayson McCouch follows as Dusty a month later, on September 24.  Contributed by CL

It's tough at the top.  Angela Shapiro-Mathes, once head of Daytime Programming for ABC, was ousted as President and General Manager of TLC after only 15 months in the position.  Even as she made some milestones for the cabler, like relocating operations from Maryland to Los Angeles, landing the Miss America franchise, and bringing in talent like Kelly Ripa and Jennifer Lopez, the honchos at Discovery Communications, owner of TLC, were not happy with the network's direction.  They were disappointed there was no break out series launched during Shapiro-Mathes reign.  "My thanks to Angela for her hard work, leadership and passion over the past year," said David Zaslav, president/CEO of Discovery. "She has diversified TLC's programming mix and increased the network's development presence in Los Angeles."  She will be succeeded by Discovery veteran, Eileen O'Neill. Contributed by LMS

Ingo Rademacher (Jax, General Hospital)General Hospital's Ingo Rademacher (Jax) trades his onscreen role as entrepreneur for diaper duty due to the arrival of Peanut Kai Rademacher on July 11.  Some Soapdom writers are placing bets on which actors will win most unique baby name by December 31st.  It's a close race but I believe "Peanut" has a strong chance and will rush forward from the back of the line. Rademacher's fiance, Ehiku, is doing well and doubly excited to bring her fiance' and 7 pounds, 6 ounces of bundle of joy home.  Soapdom offers its deepest congratulations! Contributed by LDB

In more GH Buzz, two vets of General Hospital are set to take a stroll down the aisle on August 1.  Who knew?  Apparently, love has existed passionately and trouble-free between Kiko Ellsworth (ex-Stan, General Hospital; Jamal, Port Charles) and costar Christine Carlo (ex-Leticia, GH) for some time.  The bride-to-be admitted to Soap Opera Digest: "We've been together for seven years, so this is pretty exciting!"  No word on the guest list at press time. Jacob Young (JR, All My Children)In other baby news, All My Children's Jacob Young (JR; ex-Lucky, General Hospital) and wife Christen are to be become first-time parents on November 19.  Not many details were offered but Young let the biggest news out of the bag yet!  "It's a boy," he confided to Soap Opera Digest.  "We're going to name him Luke Wayne Young - Wayne is my middle name, and Luke we chose because we wanted something biblical."  So that all issues are clear:  Luke was not chosen after Young's uber-talented, former onscreen Pop and multiple Emmy winner, Anthony Geary (Luke, GH)?  "No, sorry," smiled Young. Contributed by LDB

All My Children's Susan Lucci (Erica) also shared some good news: She very recently whispered a little secret to an editor at Soap Opera Digest that daughter Liza Huber (Gwen, Passions) and hubby Alex Hesterberg are expecting a little brother or sister for one-year-old son Royce.  The child is due November 2.  "We are so thrilled," summed up the Emmy-winning goddess. Maurice Benard (Sonny, General Hospital)In this week's Digest, General Hospital's Maurice Benard is talking about will he re-sign or roar off into mob heaven.  Benard answers with his usual hemming and hawing:  "If you asked me a month a go, there would have been no way," an observer heard the star comment to one of the fan club lunch attendees. "This month has been good; it's all about the timing.  I still need to have my meeting with Guza (Robert, GH's headwriter) to see what the future holds (for Sonny), not just a month from now, but six months from now....and a year from now.  So we'll see." Matt Florida (ex Ford, Days of our Lives)Matt Florida (ex-Ford Decker) of Days of our Lives chatted with Buzz and said that since leaving Days, much has been going on in his life. "I am filming "Cold Case," right now. I booked a guest-lead role, playing a 1951 Marine, that will air October 26, 2008 so that's pretty exciting," he said. "And my other project which is "Dan's Detour," on the Internet is getting a lot of buzz. It was in Variety a few weeks back, and the producers are set to pitch it to networks for the next few weeks. So what was set to be a sure webisode, could possibly get picked up by network, but you never know about these things so...just keeping my fingers crossed." Buzz will also cross our fingers, and whatever else we can. Way to go Matt!  Contributed by MEW

One Life to Live fans, heads up.  On July 15, your favorite soap celebrates its 40th anniversary.  That’s lots of love, lust, intrigue and mayhem in Llanview.   To commemorate the event, ABC has joined forces with Hyperion Publishing and author Gerry Wagget to compile the “One Life to Live 40th Anniversary Trivia Book,” a fun, fact-filled, everything-you-want-to-know guide to OLTL!  With 40 years of production under its belt, OLTL will be the fifth longest running soap opera in the history of daytime television.  The “One Life to Live 40th Anniversary Trivia Book” by Gerry Wagget invites all fans – old and new – to test your knowledge and be surprised by some shocking, fascinating, and sometimes unbelievable stories.  The book brings fans onto the set when the cameras were not rolling, as well as backstage into the hair and make-up departments, the dressing rooms, and the writers’ offices.  Actors reveal how they landed a part on the show. In a slightly irreverent style, the book reminisces about the oddest pregnancies, the worst doctor, and the many wives of billionaire oilman, Asa Buchanan.  With buzz, trivia, and fun from one of the longest-running soaps on TV, Hyperion believes this book is a must read for any fan of the show – especially one who has ever calculated whether Erika Slezak has more Emmys than Viki Buchanan has personalities.  Complete with a series of themed quizzes to test your memory, this is the ultimate go-to book for all those who adore this beloved soap that has reached an audience of millions for four decades and just won Daytime Emmy Entertainment awards for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series and Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series as presented at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on June 20, 2008.  The original trade paperback sells for $13.95.  For more info on this title, visit www.hyperionbooks.com Contributed by LMS

Soapdom has learned that David Chow's days may soon be numbered on The Young and the Restless.  According to sources, Vincent Irizarry (David, Young and the Restles) has been in negotiations with the show, but it looks like there has not been a meeting of the minds as far as contract renewal is concerned. It is rumored that Irizarry will leave the role in about five weeks.  Could we now know the murderer of Ji-Min?  Stay tuned.  Contributed by DR & LMS
